Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream & Treatery

I was passing by in the area and I needed to crave my little sweet tooth.
They have such awesome employees! I was assisted by a high school senior that had me laughing for 5 min straight because he had such a bright personality. He let me try a few flavors before I chose red velvet ice cream and he then proceeded to tell me that «unlike cold stone they don’t charge for additional toppings» which sounds like a pretty sweet deal in my book.
My concoction: red velvet ice cream, brownies, Reese’s peanut butter cup, and rainbow sprinkles on a waffle cone. It was divine! I’m totally coming back.

I thought Maggie Moo’s was a very solid ice cream spot. One thing I must commend them for is that their display of ice cream does a very good job of exhibiting the soft creamy texture that nice ice cream stored in the right temperature looks like.
I enjoyed their birthday cake flavor, though it was a little bit on the sweeter side.

The idea of unlimited mix ins gives you variety every time. The staff are friendly and let you try the flavors to create your new idea each visit.

I love Maggie’s. The ice cream is distinct, you can’t get it anywhere else like they have it here. The prices are decent, it’s what you pay for homemade ice cream.
The cakes are delicious but the ice cream cupcakes are my favorite. it’s half cake half ice cream, what’s better than that?
My favorite ice cream is better batter. it’s pretty hard to choose a favorite here !

I absolutely love this place! It’s always hard to choose what’s BEST! But The staff is friendly and very helpful with that. The Ice cream here is always super creamy and rich. The flavors are spot on and very delicious. There is usually a nice selection of flavors to choose from as well. They will mix in any of the large variety of toppings they offer into your ice cream for free, although I usually only mix in toppings when I get vanilla. My favorite flavor here is the blue cotton candy, the flavor is so accurate and just makes me smile every time I take a bite. The banana is a very close second. Once in a while they will add in some new flavors but they are very nice about you trying out any of the flavors before you make your choice. It’s always hard to restrain my self from coming here every time I am in the area which is a lot! I treat my self every once in a while though. Thanks again Veronica for the samples!

Great places for award winning icecream… just don’t expect great service if you go there within an hour of closing. The frozen counter will be off and cleaned and you will look like you’re lost if you expect them to mix your ice cream and toppings. I can just get some regular ice cream and throw candy on top of it if that’s what I wanted. Just close at 9 if your service stops around then.

Went in tonight as a correction for our evening that took a hard hit due to a half ass meal elsewhere. I had the raspberry sorbet and it was as delicious as it looked. The service was pretty good, too.

I had never been here before, but I stopped in with my friend after dinner right before they closed up on 9÷1÷15 and met the two coolest ice cream guys ever! Seriously can’t think of ever meeting such friendly, funny and personable staff. They joked around with us a bit, helped us decide what to order and weren’t even upset when a group of like 8 people walked in minutes before closing.
On to the ice cream! I tried a bunch of flavors, all delicious. I couldn’t decide so I asked to be surprised! I got a cookie dough and birthday cake concoction that tasted really good. They have lots of different toppings including mini candy bars, yum. I’ll be back on my next cheat day!

I saw this place near where I was gettingmy lashes done.
The name itself is what made me enter this ice cream parlor.
Upon entering, i noticed the nice antique seating arrangments they had. It put a nice, hip touch on the place. I just simply asked the nice guy behind the counter what their most popular flavor was, and he told me Better Batter.
I decided to get the kids sized (one scoop, but he gave me 1 and ½). You can get unlimited toppings put into your scoop (as much as he can fit). This is much better than Cold Stones Creamery where you would have to pay by the toppings.
It was very good. I wish time was on my side, I would have sampled all the flavors.
Its pretty pricey. I spent $ 9 plus I tipped him a $ 1
I would recommend. I would only return if I am REALLY craving ice cream and only if I’m in the area.

Also, the guy with the dark rimmed glasses, David, will scoop your ice cream like there is a college of professional ice cream scooping where he graduated as the valedictorian

This place has gone to hell.
I used to love coming here to eat their prize winning ice cream with a variety of fresh mix-​ins during the hot summer days (and nights)!
However my last two visits in the past month have left a sour taste in my mouth, and that wasn’t just caused by the stale toppings they use. I believe the ice cream display is malfunctioning because the top layer is very obviously melted. So by the time the worker is finished mixing and scooping it in, what you’re served is a cold, thick soup.
The first time I went recently, I had them put marshmallows in and the marshmallows were rock hard and stuck together in clumps. It was inedible. I went in around 9pm yesterday and the counter was absolutely filthy. Toppings were strewn about on the mixing counter as if they just broke open a piñata full of toppings and the worker didn’t bother clearing off the old toppings before slapping down my scoop of ice cream. I ended up having pieces of peanut in my ice cream which poses a great risk for those with allergies.
As I walked away with my chocolate soup in hand, I looked back at their smiling cow mascot whose udders I worshipped for their sweet nectar made this all possible. However, now I feel that the store is inspired by the fecal matter that is unceremoniously dumped Maggie and left to melt on a hot summers day.

My wife tells me how much her students love taking class trips every year. Few nights ago we went for Icecream with our kids. Let’s say we been back every night since. Keep up the good work.

Good ice cream in a charming neighborhood of upper Queens. I would pass on the pistachio since it looks like iced food coloring. Went with Dark Chocolate and Expresso in a cup.

Best ice cream. I think it’s better than cold stone. Cold stone ice cream tastes artificial to me. This ice cream has the taste of quality cream. They churn their own ice cream in the back, that’s a big difference in quality and freshness than other ice cream franchises (I.e cold stone, baskin Robbins) who have pre-​packed ice cream delivered to them. I’ve been a fan of Maggie moos for years — not only in this location, but in Washington DC as well. The ice cream is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for — better quality ingredients and product.

Found one in Bayside!!! I didn’t think they had ones of these in NYC. My sister LOVES this place so I decided while I was in the neighborhood, I’d go check it out. It’s right off the Q31 bus route.
The first thing I noticed was no one was there. Seems a weekday afternoon in an ice cream place in Queens means you’re going to be waiting a while for someone to come out to help you. Perhaps there should be a bell for customers to ring to indicate their presence so they aren’t waiting 10+ minutes for the lone employee to come out.
However, when the lone employee did come out the experience was worth it. Unlike the cheapskates at Cold Stone, they have unlimited mix-​ins here. You can also get scoops in different flavors; I chose chocolate and yellow marshmallow.
A word of caution on mix-​ins: some are great in theory but not so good in practice. One example would be Twix bars; that caramel just hardens in the cold ice cream goodness.
Nonetheless, I got what I wanted and the lone employee seemed happy to serve me instead of viewing me as an inconvenience. I know my sister would want to come here if she comes to town.

Love this place. The flavors are really good– enjoyed their red velvet, caramel and chocolate birthday cake, and their cinnabon. Great mix ins. Child size is perfect. Always good.

Our group of 5 walked in and were offered as many samples as we wanted. «This girl is great!” — I thought to myself. We went ahead and ordered our Ice Creams. When it got to me I ordered the following:
2 Scoops. 1 scoop better Batter. 1 Scoop Sweet Cream.
Now let me know if I lose you here…
— Please mix the two flavors and then split it in two. I would like to have different «mixins» in each scoop.
The girl looks at me confused. This is strange considering their normal practice is to mix the flavors. If you want to have your flavors stay separate you have to request they keep them separate.
I repeat myself with hand motions this time to mix then split in half. She says she «doesn’t know how». I say I am not picky, it does not have to be half/​half. Just split the ice cream back into 2 scoops. She hesitantly cuts a line in the middle of the ice cream (³⁰⁄₇₀ but I don’t care). Now I ask her to split them. I ask her to put Reese’s Cups in the small lump and Crunchies, Cherries and (BIG MISTAKE) Almonds in the big lump. Although the scoops were tiny, she was generous with the mixins. She tells me they do not «do things like this» and will only do this this one time

* We head over to the register to pay and all pull out our Unilocal Check-​in $ 1 off your Order coupons. The girl looks at it and says I’m sorry, The manager has to he here to approve the use of coupons. So we can’t use it if he is not here? No. That’s odd, I did not see that on the fine print. That’s ok. Next time.
We eat our ice cream and I notice the Almonds are stale/​rancid. Not by a little but weeks and weeks old. I have my husband try it and he agrees (and he never complains). Then my sister comes over and tries it and makes a face. I wait for the girl to come back from the back room. 2 more customers arrive. She comes out a few minutes later. I explain the situation to her and she says «its not stale, it may taste funny because it is near the cold table». That table did not cause the Almonds too taste like this.
* I ask for a new scoop of ice cream with no Mixins. She says she cannot give me a scoop without manager approval. I ask to speak to the manager. She goes to the back room and returns saying she cannot reach him. but she can take me name and # and he can call me. Excuse me?!?
* She explains there’s nothing wrong with the Almonds. I ask her to try it and she eats it and says it tastes fine to her. At this point my husband and sister approach her and gently explain there is something wrong with the almonds. She says they throw out the almonds every night (questionable as its like 10 lbs of almonds there).
* I request a refund. She says she cannot issue me a refund without manager approval. So that’s it? Then she goes to the back room and gives someone else their order.
* HERE IS THE BEST PART. She explains that there is a reason they allow us to sample ice cream before ordering so we know if we like it. I explain there is nothing wrong with the ice cream, it is the ALMONDS/​Mixins (which we DO NOT sample). She repeats herself. We each repeat ourselves 3x. Even the customer next to me does not understand why they can’t just give me a fresh scoop.
* I explain to her that if this is the case, a manager should be here ALL THE TIME. She says he cannot be there all the time. I ask her if I have to stand there until the manager comes back. And she reluctantly says she will give me a new scoop «but I’m telling you now, I’m going to get in trouble for this!». I explain my intent is not to «get her into trouble» and say forget it. I just want her Manager’s name. She says she will write it down for me and goes to the back room again. She returns and says she will just give me another scoop and begins making it without a word. I ask again for her Manager’s name — BEN.
After this whole ordeal, we are led to believe that the Manager, Ben, was in the back this entire time. This Maggie Moo’s location is running a scam where they do not accept Unilocal Coupons (or any coupons for that matter) and will issue no refunds — ever.
Maggie Moo’s should send an undercover shopper over and uncover this shady business.

My wife and I have been here a number of times we usually split between Maggie’s and Yogurt Land across the street.
It is not the greatest ice cream I’ve ever had but, it is convenient to have a place within walking distance from our apartment. And the flavor combos they offer are imaginative.
A sour point is that they usually do not have more than two people working behind the counter so the wait can be a little long from time to time.
A lot of people have been comparing Maggie’s to «Cold Stone Creamery»; since Maggie’s mixes their toppings and ice cream on a“cold stone”. Maggie’s definitely has less of a corporate feel, but that comes with less toppings, less ice cream flavors, and less employees.
Score one for corporate America, because Maggie’s is a poor substitute.
