We live very close to this diner and being native New Yorkers, we LOOOOVE a neighborhood diner. Since moving we’ve been here at least 20⁄30 times and this is an overall review. Unfortunately we won’t be returning. Generally there’s a normal amount of patron to wait staff ratio of about 5:1 which yields fast diner-esque food, which is obviously awesome(2 stars), but for what ever reason this past weekend service was HORRIBLE. This weekend it appeared they were training new staff(never seen the folks before) but the all of senior staff was in the back eating socializing. This caused chaos… we were seated and after 20 minutes had to go to the front to ask about a server, soon after another table did the same. After getting a server and placing an order, one of the orders(that was never confirmed to be an app because it wasn’t) came out first. Time went on and another 20 or so minutes later we were still waiting for the rest of our order(a salad and a burger). Frustrated and hangry(hungry/angry) we chose to pay for what we had received and dine elsewhere. After asking for the check, I will assume the manager(she didn’t introduce herself) came over obviously annoyed and reiterated the normal steps in ordering and order taking(i.e. so you ordered blahblah … its almost done blahblah … and the server said you don’t want it ???) We explained our issue with the service and time and again requested the check. With no response or APOLOGY she rudely walked off. Fully offended, we walked to the front desk to pay for what we had received and received an «Gnawww … it wasn’t good huh» from the older woman at the front. A response appropriate for a child who received the wrong sprinkles and was upset. Overall this was annoying on so many levels, Broadway Diner and Bistro will NEVER get our business again. Happy trails.

Basic, open when you need it. I think it’s open 6am every day, but Unilocal’s listed hours only have the buffet. They know how to cook an egg and you can get rye toast for your bread. Prices are reasonable and the parking is a huge plus!

All You Can Eat Italian Buffet ever Sunday is really good. Very filling. Good average NJ diner breakfast.

Sorry to say but I would normally have given them at least 4 stars but after today I will only give them 2 stars and that is being generous. The worse visit ever don’t think I will go back.

My husband and I usually have Saturday morning breakfast here — until last weekend, found a hair in my breakfast omelette! I was disgusted! We haven’t been back since & will not be returning.

Nice place. Well staffed. Decent priced meals. Food is fresh and flavorful. Service could be a little better but it does get busy there at times. My only other complain would be steak was over cooked.

The food is good. The service not so much. I’ve been a bartender and a server before and I know exactly what a good service is. Makes me not want to leave a tip.

This place is a complete turnaround from the old downtown diner. Good typical diner food.

Had a miserable experience here yesterday. My friend ordered the spinach pie, as she usually does from diners. It was a sloppy, soggy, freezer burned mess. The dough was disgustingly undercooked. The Greek salad that came with it was good though. The side of fries she ordered since her spinach pie was inedible was undercooked. This place loves the freezer(I get it not EVERYTHING can be fresh) and doesn’t seem to know how to thaw items out before cooking and serving. My boyfriend ordered breakfast, 2 eggs and meat with toast. His bread was so floppy and just untoasted it was ridiculous. I ordered the grilled chicken Swiss avocado with bacon sandwich with disco fries. I’ve had this before so I know how it’s supposed to taste. The roll was okay, a little soggy but what can you really do about that? The chicken was bland. The bacon was undercooked. The French fries were also undercooked, as were my friend’s. The $ 38.00 bill was so not worth it. I don’t think any of us will be returning here anytime soon unless it’s a case of total desperation. The Uptown diner has also been gross and poorly serviced lately. Hate to leave such a negative review since I love(d) the diners in Bayonne, but the Downtown diner just seemed to put absolutely no effort into the maybe 4 tables they had patronizing the restaurant.

This place was taken over several years ago by the same people who run the uptown diner. They fully refurbished the whole thing(which is a good thing since the previous owners had let the place deteriorate into a dive). They have the same menu as the uptown diner with all of the breakfast items you would expect at a diner. Plus burgers, daily dinner specials, salads & desserts. They even have a brick oven where they make delicious pizzas. Portions are plentiful & food is good. The waitstaff can range from really good(Eve) to young inexperienced waitresses who are inattentive & get the orders wrong. Overall a decent neighborhood diner.

A little slow on a Sunday afternoon which is expected. but it seems like there were two waitresses in the section for 20 tables. The food is pretty mediocre but the pancakes do taste the same as uptown. but sometimes it’s inconsistent. They now have a fresh juice bar and it’s cheap and has the variety you need from a diner. I do not recommend eating the soggy freezer burnt home fries.

This place is what a Diner is suppose to be like. I have breakfast every Saturday at the counter. The Waitress knows what I’m having and my coffee is served as I take off my jacket and sit. If you are lucky enough to have Nancy to serve you then you’re in good hands. The food is always solid and I recommend eating here if your in the area.

I would say 50% of the servers are friendly but they are attentive if you come with the right people! Lol… with that being said, the food is good for diner food. It’s always quick and easy and you get A LOT of food! The lamb gyro is one of my faves and the lox bagel. Don’t expect 5star food or service because C’mon you’re at a diner!

The Broadway diner is the same owner as this one at opposite ends of the town. The menu is EXACTLY the same and often times the staff is interchangable. I do not see how one can have a different rating than the other so I am rating this one as well. I actually eat here more often than the other since it is closer to my house however the other one is open 24 hours. This is a great diner with solid and consistent food and a great staff. Just like every restaurant a waiter or waitress may have a bad day but I am a regular there and everyone is friendly to me and remembers the things I like and don’t like. I eat here pretty often and will continue to and everyone from out of town that I bring loves their food!

staff is friendly. know whats good and order that then you won’t be disappointed. -#9 bistro sandwich is amazinggg, chicken cutlet with fresh mozz lettuce & tomato with a white balsamic dressing, its huge and I could never finish –rice balls… served in a pink sauce and I think they are better than some pizzerias –fresh fries well done with gravey on the side –taylor ham i usually order pickles & cole slaw — last time I was here they both tasted horrible, which is disappointing…

Place looks better than it has when I was coming here in early 2000 or the 90s. But service needs a smile and personality!

Wasn’t too impressed in general. The food was OK for your standard breakfast, but nothing that I’d go out of my way for. The place was noisy and the staff was clearly stressed out. The manager(or whatever he was) was all worked up and getting on all the waitstaff/busboys nerves. His attempt at directing his staff was a failure that only resulted in a more frantic and unpleasant environment.

I don’t know what changes have occurred at the Bayonne diner, but if you value your taste buds, PLEASE stay away. Upon entering, you’ll notice that several of the booths are in disrepair. The one that we were seated at, if you laid a pen flat on the table, it would roll off on it’s own into the isle. For breakfast, I ordered OJ and my friend ordered Coffee. The OJ is watered down, and somewhat sketchy as they server it to you in your own non-labeled container. The coffee? Forget it. It tasted watered down and like it was filtered through someone’s sock. The meal. Wow. The food was bland tasting, and my friend’s waffle wasn’t completely cooked through(still gooey in the center). Mind you, we were there at 7 in the morning. There is no excuse. This, sadly, was not an isolated incident. We’ve both been there multiple times for breakfast and each and every time received the same low quality food. BEWARE!

This diner has definitely seen better days. It looks like its in need of some structural repairs and a bit of a facelift certainly wouldnt hurt it either. We went for breakfast and were sat at a creaky table under missing ceiling panels. The waitress was very sweet and the food came out quickly. The breakfast was good– nothing fancy but just some straightforward grub. I had silver dollar pancakes and scrambled eggs with a side of bacon. The portions were large and the prices are definitely reasonable. Bayonne diner offered up some quick and honest eats in an environment that needs a little TLC. If you are looking for a hearty breakfast with a cheap price tag, this place will do fine. If you are looking for someplace to sip a mimossa and enjoy the ambiance– I might keep looking.
