The first few times I went to this place I loved it. It is such an experience. It is delightfully tacky in decoration and the owner Angelina is very nice and funny. Their menu and their portions were huge. Their clams in red sauce and fresh garlic bread, to die for. Sadly, the last time we went with a huge group of people and two things happened. The portions were much smaller and not that great tasting. When we got the bill I almost fell over. We had ordered a little bit of alcohol, but it looked like we were ripped off. Angelina’s son was the bartender and it wasn’t top shelf either. There are no prices on their menus, so every time you can get charged a different price. I know alcohol isn’t cheap, but we had to have been charged at least $ 20 a glass.

One of the best Italian Restaurants left. From the minute you walk in you are treated like family. This is not your typical restaurant. It is warm and inviting and everything is made to order and the portions are amazing. The owner takes pride in what she prepares and serves and it shows. Time stands still here and it is a very good thing that it does because it gives you time to enjoy each part of your meal.

Hands down the best authentic Italian meal you will have in the tri state area! Angelina cooks everything to order so be prepared to wait! But it is totally worth it! Been going here for years and the food is consistently excellent every time!

EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!!! Best way to describe this place is OLDSCHOOL with great service and awesome Italian food… This is a family operated restaurant. GIVEITTRY you’ll be very happy. I went there for the first time on Christmas Eve with my family… I had the shrimp Oreganata as an appetizer and the prime rib. You’ll be taking home leftovers the portions are large! And everything was reasonably priced!!!

Awesome meal. Went in on a Tuesday night at 5:30…just when she opened. Thought we would get quicker service since I know its slow. Angelina served us personally as we were the only ones in the restaurant. She made a caprese salad for us that was not on the menu. We ordered fettuccine with shrimp. Absolutely delicious. My date and I shared the meal. she serves family style. It was plenty of food… we even took leftovers. Highly highly recommend!

The food is to die for. I have been going to Angelina’s for 15 years. By far the best Italian restaurant I have ever been too.

a date wanted to take me here, but i insisted on going somewhere else, after i noticed their anti-obama bumper stickers plastered all over the front window. what do your political views have to do with making food? ignorant and tacky.

Angelina is a sweet eccentric woman that puts her heart and soul into her food — how could you not love a place like hers?!

Please don’t go here if you are looking for fast service or «fancy» décor. The wait is long and the place is cozy. The food is AMAZING. I find myself daydreaming about it randomly. I usually get the tomato/mozz salad, chicken parm and shrimp oreganata and you can’t beat it. Seriously. My mouth is watering just from writing this.

I’ve been going here for about 10 years. This is seriously the best Italian restaurant ever. Really, it’s the best restaurant. Small and cozy. Yes, you feel like you’re sitting in your family dining room… that’s the charm of it. I have a hard time not ordering the same thing because I love it. Mussels with linguini. I’ve had the chicken Milanese which is amazing and also the roasted pork. Not a bad thing on this homemade menu… homemade food and homemade menu. This adds to the charm of the place. Angelina is the owner, cook and her son is the waiter. I love the relationship between them and it does feel like you’re at Sunday dinner… if your were in an Italian home(which I’m not and that makes me love it all the more!) Fresh cannoli at the end if you can even possibly stuff them in. We’ve drunk them out of wine twice and John Paul had to run to the store to get us more. How much better service can you even ask for? We literally bring Tupperware to take our leftovers back to Pittsburgh. I didn’t even want to write this review because I want to keep this place all to myself.

Unfortunately zero stars is not an option. After not eating here for 10 years because of a badly prepared meal I decided to try only because I got a coupon for $ 25 off from a website through my company. Immediately I was turned off by the angry owner yelling over her shoulder that they don’t take coupons, then she proceeded to yell«we don’t take credit cards either, cash only». Now embarrassed, we sit and when my shrimp francaise was brought to the table it was sitting in a pool of francaise broth about ¾″ deep. THEEXACTREASONOFTHEBADLYPREPARED meal 10 years previous. The shrimp was unrecognizable as shrimp it was a soggy mess and the pool of broth was sour. The kicker was when the bill came because I was charged $ 29. I won’t comment on the length of time it took to be served as I can understands she prepares it herself, but as I was sitting there I had bad memories of years ago when we waited well over an hour to be served. The décor is horrendous but I guess that she may be trying for a quirky atmosphere, which would be ok, IF the food was acceptable. In business since 1975?, it may be time to hang up the apron.

My boyfriend and I have been trying to eat here for a while. However, when we entered the restaurant, we were greeted with an angry woman who went on about coupons before even hearing that we had one. Don’t go there if you have a certificate. Her bad attitude made it so that the 60 seconds we spent in the restaurant will be the only minute we ever spend there. What a waste of 2 quarters in the meter and $ 50 spent at .

Okay I”ve eaten a lot of chicken parm. in my life. And now had it twice now and I can say the best I”ve ever had. Yes Angelina cooks everything herself so it can take time but hey it’s fresh and the best wait I”ve ever had. Me and a buddy had a huge platter of chicken parm., pasta and a whole loaf of bread couple sodas spent 30 bucks price was fair to me with the amount of food

For the record, I never made it in the restaurant. My bf, his family and I went there since they were advised that this place was phenomenal. We arrived around 5pm and were advised by a passerby that they opened between 5:30pm and 6pm. The windows were open but the lights were out so we figured someone would be by soon. We decided to wait in case there was a long line. Another couple waited for a few minutes and then went next door. We waited until 6:20pm and gave up. We ended up eating next door at the Spanish restaurant also. We came out after 7:30 and hey guess what? Angelina’s never opened up! At least send someone to put a sign at the door and let customers know that something came and unfortunately you wont be opening up.

This place really dissapointed my family and I. After spending countless hours(Sure felt like that), in the restaurant waiting for the main course, all three of our dinners were beyond terrible. I orderd the Veal Parmigiana, it was the most OVERCOOKED, TASTLESS, HORRIBLYBREADEDVEAL I have ever experienced eating, and I have been eating it at some of the best in NYC, NJ, ETC… Just no excuse for it, and $$$ too… WHY? It all went right in the garbage after we left the resturant !! My wife had the Shrimp Marinara, she said that was the most TASTELESS, WATERY, marinara sauce she has ever eaten. It sure was enough for a party of 6 to eat, but Sorry, just plain awful. The SHRIMP was also curly, WTF is up with that. It makes me wonder where this shrimp was from. Oh boy, just AWFUL. We would never go back, and furthermore, because of that horrible experience, don’t think I would be back in that area to eat. The Marinara sauce is just awful, too watery! I have been to places, FAMILY size portions, where the food is EXCEPTIONAL, this place is bad, not excuses. Funny to me, that while we were dinning, some of the people next to us, where telling us how great the food is and they are regulars there, I bet! I know one thing, they don’t know good italian food . So to all reading this REVIEW, you can bet I know what I am talking about when it comes to eating ITALIAN food. So to Bill P. and Marie M. where did you eat, couldn’t have been at this same resturant. I agree with Denise G and John H, never going back …

I went to Angelina’s for dinner… The place was too dark, can’t figure out the décor, and way way to pricey for the food you get which was just barely ok, but must say the waiter paid close attention… to his phone! The portions were extremely big, and maybe if the portions were cut to half they could lower the prices. The menu looked like they were made by a 3rd grader and ridiculously over sized. I would not recommend this place, and will never go back.

ZEROZEROZERO. Wow! I have never been angered/sadder while writing a review. It’s 5:30 Sunday and I’ve been eating so much chicken/fish I decided to check out some beef/lamb options in my new town. Called an Indian place called Kashmir something in Bayonne that I found right here on Unilocal. They didn’t have any good dishes that were just lean meat, but the lady who picked up the phone gave me an excellent description of each of the items and the price when I called her twice. Cordial but doesn’t have what I need. Move on. The lady who owns this place/picked up the phone is a psycho! Asked her what she had with beef or lamb. Gave me names of Italian dishes so fast, that I asked her«can you clarify what was in each one?» Her response directly(I kid you not– out of the blue) and WITH attitude…“No I can’t, I’m too busy right now. Goodbye” *Slams phone* I’m so stunned, and a little angry but I realize I can’t help someone like that, and I’m not going to order from a place where the chef could possibly do something to my food in retalation. I have no idea what triggered such a response. It’s not racism either. Was born and raised in Jersey City, no accent, no nothing! She is just unbelievably rude. Good luck running your business Get your act together or get out of business! I live four blocks from your restaurant and no wonder it isn’t noticable. Probably losing cash keeping it open with that attidude. Can’t even afford a sign for it! Summary: Picks up phone, gives a self-pompous spiel of being in the restaurant business for 38 years and then proceeds to not care at all about what the customer wants, slams phone. Horrible. Just horrible. What a way to start your week. I could only imagine what this woman’s life entails and how miserable she is. If you wanted to leave the restaurant business like other reviewers say, then toss it. The plus part of it is, it really makes you think why someone would continue to work at a place they own AND they want to fail. Completely non sensical isn’t it?

First off if you go here be prepared to wait. You must understand this before going here. The food is incredible. Have eaten here many times and NEVER had a bad meak. The reviews that say the food sucks are off base and not accurate. The Chicken Francois is to die for but everything else is equally good. If you want a fresh cooked to order meal come here. This inside is nothing to look at but your coming here to eat not reside here. If your imaptient or expect to be in and out of this restaurant in an hour do not come here.

I’m actually laughing out loud at the comment below me. Any of the commenters who ranked this place low, or suggested another place like«Italia» —btw which is so bad it just closed down– really needs to get their tastebuds checked. Angeline’s décor is a bit unusual and quite confusing if you are a first timer. The best part is, however, if you take the time to ask Angelina the history of her décor, you will find out that all the randoms actually tell a story. They are her favorite things or her memories. Really adds to the love I have for the place knowing those things have been with her for nearly 40 years. Okay, the wait. Yes it takes a very long time. However, what can you expect with Angelina cooking the food herself, her son serving, and perfectly prepared and cooked food? You want good food that will leave your tastebuds screaming with delight? Then deal with the wait or go to another Italian restaurant nearby and get served«italian» food in a hurry that fills your stomach but not your soul. Let’s talk about the food itself. I typically order either the Shrimp/Chicken Parm combo, the Chicken Marsala, or the Prime Rib. For appetizer we always get a large order of Mussels in red sauce and garlic bread. Let me just say that I crave these items for weeks in anticipation for Angelina’s — there’s nothing like it. Her sauce it to DIEFOR! I have lived in Bayonne for 17 years and therefore have tried every single Italian restaurant(and other kinds) in the town. NOONE compares to her taste. Mouth watering, truly. So please ignore all the comments surrounding mine that are negative… those people need their heads examined and need to forfeit their right to review restaurants. Seem they are better fit for the high cuisine of Burger King than excellent home style Italian food. EATON!

Angelina’s is basically a one woman operation. There is «limited help» from a family member. It’s a dark, uncomfortably dank place that is tastelessly decorated with a bizarre mixture of Christmas lights, ornaments, and toys. There was a long wait before we ever saw a menu, and close to an hour before we were served. But we thought, hey, the place has been in business for 38 years so the food must be amazing! Wrong! Someone at the next table commented that the portion was pretty large. The«waiter» said in a bad Brooklynese accent, «Yea, large portions! My muddah she was born wit lead in her fingah-tips!» We ordered Stuffed Shells and Ravioli a la Vodka. The sauces were very heavy, acidy, and salty. The ricotta filling was bland in both dishes, lacking parsley and seasonings. Meanwhile, the family at the next table finished and asked for the check. Angelina accidentally spilled a coke from that table and quickly took a pillow from the décor to soak it up. The«waiter» came out and said, «Youse gotta excuse my mudder — she’s kinda burnt out after 38 years!», to which Angelina screamed, «JERK!!! 28 years old, still at home and I can’t get rid of him!» and it escalated from there. Unbelievable high drama! The menu had no prices, as if aspiring to be an upscale restaurant apparently! But I figured for what we were ordering it should be about $ 8 — $ 10 range. It wasn’t. The value was absolutely terrible! The pasta dishes were $ 12 and $ 18 — double of what many other establishments in the general area charge for the same thing! Service was rude and unbearably slow, taking more than 90 minutes for only a 1 course meal!!! The family members were even fighting in front of the customers. The place is a nightmare in every way! PLEASEDON’T GOHERE!!! Do not say you haven’t been warned. Try Buon appetito on Broadway, Bayonne instead.
