Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center

Conveniently located, but rooms are small and not always fully functional. TV and lamps did not work and hotel staff had to be called multiple times to address problems. Worst valet service ever!

This review is coming from a diamond member with the HHonors network. I travel around the country for work and am on the road 90+ days a year. Upon check in the gentleman at the front desk gave me problems, he couldn’t get my credit card to authorize after I told him since booking the reservation my company issued a new credit card and they needed to change it. He kept swiping it over and over over and kept telling me it wont work while the line to check in began to build. I told him the expiration changed and it needed to be changed to run it like I told him prior. After being embarrassed by the gentleman I called my corporate card customer service. They explained he was running it with the wrong info based off the original booking. He finally got his manager and fixed it in seconds. After, I proceeded to the elevator and to get to the executive floor you needed to use your key. After attempting to get to my floor unsuccessfully I went down stairs and the man at the front desk told me I must be having a bad day. In fact I wasn’t and he walked to the elevator and inserted the key and held the button at the same time he pulled the card out. Instead of just telling me you have to oddly insert the key and pull it out holding the button he made the situation worse. On top of this I have strict guidelines on my profile that states to put me away from the elevator and busy area. My room was directly across from the executive lounge where they serve breakfast at 6:00am. I was woken by the heavy traffic in and out of the door slamming every few minutes. Also on top of this there is a blue’s bar our front of the hotel that blasts music until past midnight. As far as the room ot was clean and comfortable. Enough complaining about this hotel.

I had drinks and dinner at the bar. The drinks were made to perfection and the food was amazing and full of flavor. The two bartenders Holly and Billy was a joy! I will definitely return.

Nice hotel, great place to watch 4^th of July fireworks from the pool deck. My only complaint would be the lack of lounge chairs on the pool deck. Huge pool deck area and only 8 lounge chairs. Plenty of other chairs just nothing to lay back and relax in. There are a bunch of bean bag chairs but who wants to sit in a bean bag in the sun when its 90 degrees and 95% humidity.
Lobby bar is nice and the bartenders were very friendly. Food is excellent.

Clean updated hotel on the river with excellent lounge and views. I would recommend getting the balcony 4^th floor room, sunset is amazing.

I only have good things to say about this hotel.
Our room on the 8^th floor, even though it was facing the street, was quiet[1]. Granted, the room was not the most spacious I’ve ever seen, but it was fine for our needs (in the end we only use the room to sleep and rest, and are away most of the time). The walls seem thin, and we could hear conversations from the room next door occasionally; luckily our neighbors were quiet.
The thing I liked the most is that they offer a pick up/​drop off service, for free! And not only to and from the airport, but to wherever you want to go! We arrived late at night, and they drove us to Chime so that we got there before the kitchen closed. They then came to pick us up well after midnight. Same thing when we needed to go to Parrains, which is pretty far. How awesome is that?!
I can’t say anything about other services offered by the hotel (gym, pool, bar, restaurant, breakfast, room service, etc…) since we didn’t use them, but the people at the front desk were always helpful and very courteous. I would not hesitate to use this hotel again.

[1] Downtown Baton Rouge is a bit weird: it seems dormant most of the day, and then it gets super busy at night, but only in certain spots.

This hotel could be great but…
The bed is made so poorly that the comforter is hanging off one side and all sheets untucked. The bed is too soft for my taste but I’m sure some love it. If you don’t like soft beds though, this is not for you.
Garbage is all over the pool deck and no cleaning gets done. We were at the pool at 3:30 pm and them again at 8:30 am and all the same garbage was there including towels onset of the chairs left from the night before. Then back again at 4pm d still the same plate of food since 8:30 am, water bottles, candy wrappers and empty cups. It’s bad enough that folks can throw their own garbage away but even worse that there is not regular cleaning.
Finally about 6pm a cleaning woman walks out leaving on her cleaning cart as she walks like kids do on shopping carts. She stays leaning on her cart watching the pool area for about 10 to 15 minutes before she very slowly starts gathering dirty towels totally ignoring all the garbage.
My husband ended up gathering garbage and throwing it away.
Pathetic really.
The view from the pool is very nice though.

I hate writing negative reviews but this one cannot be ignored. This is single-​handedly the worst Hilton property I have ever stayed at.
I’ve been waiting to write this review for a while now as I originally thought it was a bad experience (which can happen to anyone). However I have now stayed here three times in total and I can some up all three experiences in one word… Dismal.
Now, in the hotel’s defense, I chose the busiest weekend this hotel has every year for two of my stays (Mardi Gras season). However, knowing how busy it is every year, one would think this Hilton property would have gotten it down to a science.
The first room we ever stayed in was «during renovation». Half of our floor was under construction, our neighbor’s room absolutely wreaked of cigarette smoke (on a non-​smoking floor) and the hotel was unable to help us in any way at all. In our own room… There was a fist-​size hole in the bathroom wall that I immediately reported to management and the bathroom was so small, you could not close the bathrooms doors and use the toilet at the same time!
Ok, so first terrible experience out of the way. The cost was exorbitant and the experience was awful.
Attempt #2, I rented a junior suite for my fiancé’s birthday during the off-​season. The room rates were much more reasonable but again the room just… Sucked. There is nothing good to say about it except that I did manage to fall asleep that night. Even the junior suite had a terrible view of the river (which I paid extra for). The hotel was still being renovated at the time… 9 months after our first visit, and we couldn’t even enter through the main lobby!
Again, overall absolutely terrible service.
Stay #3… Wow. Mardi Gras time again and guess what happens? They oversold the hotel and dozens of people were left without rooms. Thank goodness I am a Hilton Diamond member or else I probably would have lost my room. Even being a Diamond member didn’t guarantee my safety… Friends of ours, who are also Diamond members, did not have their room ready until around 10 PM the day they were due to checkin and the hotel did not even hold the reservation they had made for their parents… They simply got bumped for a higher status individual.
All in all, the only reason this review gets one star is because I believe in Hilton properties overall (and I can’t give negative star ratings or else I would). I’m now convinced that I found the absolute worst and overpriced hotel Hilton has in its portfolio.

Excellent service, kind and attentive staff from the moment we arrived until the minute we left. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the rooms were clean and cozy. Highly recommend to stay at this hotel.

When we checked in the deak clerk told us their was complimentary breakfast, we didn’t think otherwise since we had just stayed at the Hilton in San antonio Texas and it was there also. They next morning 22^nd the four of us went down and had the breakfast buffet, after eating we were presented a $ 41 bill, when we explained what we were told the waitress called the front desk and said no the desk clerk was wrong. We ended up stuck paying the $ 41 bill !!! And trust me it was even crappy food I’d never have voluntarily elected to pay for.

The checkin process was fast and friendly staff. I stayed a newly renovated floor. the shower area was clean and new, the bed was very comfortable and the pillows had different densities, which I liked. Had the river view. the room is very quiet, the airco not loud at all. necessary electrical hookups next to your bed was very convenient. valet was $ 16. It took almost 10 minutes to get my car though. definitely will return.

I have been to Baton Rouge many times and stayed in may different hotels while there. For the price I paid, this hotel is one of my favorite.
Located in the downtown area, the Hilton is very convenient if you have business at the Capitol or just want to see the sights. It also seems centrally located near several bars and restaurants that were quite busy during the night time hours.
There is no self-​parking for this hotel, but valet is only $ 16 per night. Considering that downtown New Orleans hotels charge upwards of $ 50, I consider that a steal.
Check in was fast and easy, plus they accommodated my early check in request.
When booking I opted for the most reasonable room so the view was of the downtown building. If you are willing to pay a little more, you can book a river view room, but I actually enjoyed looking out at downtown.
The room used central air conditioning with a thermostat that actually worked. The bedding was top notch and very comfortable. The comforter and sheets were of such high quality that I felt like I was in some sort of palatial bed. I have no idea what a setup like that costs, but the trend of fancy beds is a good one.
I did not get to try the food or bar in this hotel, but the bar did seem popular when I passed it at night.
If you need a hotel in the downtown BR area, the Hilton should be high on your list.

Not my favorite of the Hilton’s — and I am a gold member. The room wasn’t terribly clean — there was an almond on the carpet that the maid missed. The sheets had hair on them — whoever was doing the bed was shedding I guess. I don’t know why they don’t have an executive lounge that gold members can use — apparently it’s only available for platinum members. However the front desk said I couldn’t use it because I had elected to not get the free breakfast and get miles instead. So confusing. Their breakfast restaurant downstairs has terrible staffing for breakfast. They don’t clear the tables and you are forced to sit in whatever is not dirty. Also — I think they purposely take forever to get you a menu so that you decide it’s better to do the buffet. The food in the buffet is pretty good though.

Dirty, rude, service is non-​exsistant.
With taxes, we paid over $ 200.00 a night for our «river view» room. The view was the only nice thing about this hotel.
We arrived from Shreveport (from Dallas, from Houston and originally from Edmonton, Alberta Canada) and had multiple bags, so we decided to use Valet. What a crock. We ended up lugging everything ourselves without even the benefit of a baggage cart because the hotel apparently doesn’t have any.
Fine. We get up to our 7^th floor room… and there is bedding and room service trays EVERYWHERE. It is already 7:00pm so shouldn’t this all be cleaned?
The room is typical old hotel, small. No mini fridges in the rooms. The double door bathroom is so small that you need to enter, close the one door in order to use the toilet. The doors do not close together… hence no real privacy. The shower is ridiculous. You need to stand right in the path of the spray in order to turn the water on. The bed was very nice and comfy.
We were pretty hungry by 7:30 and decided to try the restaurant downstairs. No one to seat us (other guests actually poked their heads into the kitchen to get some attention from the non-​exsistant wait staff) when we arrived, we had to wait about 10 minutes even after being seated before a waiter appeared, the food was sub par ($ 100.00 meal) and we over heard one of the female wait staff mocking our Canadian accents. Ya, we are in the south and WE are the ones with a strange accent.
My husband decided to walk down the hallway to get us some ice and the hallway was soaked (ie: his socks became extremely wet) because they were cleaning the carpets at 9:00 at night.
The next morning we decided to order room service. I phoned and phoned and for 15 minutes the room service line was busy. This is a Monday morning, no special day, not very many guests, but the line was busy? At 9:50 am (room service stops at 10:00) I finally call the front desk and explain the situation, they transfer me and this is the conversation between me and the room service person:
Me: hi, we would like to order room service.
Room service: oh, let me check if we are still serving. (I can hear murmuring in background) sorry, we aren’t serving breakfast anymore.
Me: I’ve been calling for 15 minutes, the line has been busy, so I finally had the front desk transfer me to you and now you are no longer serving breakfast?
Room service: um, I can ask the manager…
Me: never mind, we will go out for breakfast.
For us, this has been an extremely bad experience and we will NOT be returning to this particular hotel again. Why are we staying tonight? Because we had already booked for 2 nights *groan.*
Do yourself a favour, save some money and stay somewhere else.

I really liked this hotel and if I had some reason to be in that part of Baton Rouge again I’d definitely stay there again.
The building itself is a historic hotel, though its been extensively renovated, so the outside is very pretty.
The room was nice enough. Comfy beds, a place to sit and everything was clean. The bathroom was nice, the water pressure in the shower wasn’t the best though I’m guessing this has to do with the age of the building.
I liked the pool that overlooked the river. It wasn’t too big but it was well maintained and the view was great.
The free wifi was a surprising and nice touch. I used it to do some work over my company’s VPN and really had no troubles, which was great.
The area around it is like a ghost town though on the weekends, especially Sunday. There were literally no people out Sunday morning. It was a bit creepy. So keep that in mind, but it was definitely a nice place to stay.

My boyfriend and I stayed here while we were in town for a wedding and the accommodations were wonderful. Loved the view of the Mississippi River! I found a great deal/​sale on the room using
, so as far as I’m concerned, the price was right. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would consider staying here again during football season! ;)

Old hotel with lots of history… Like the politicians who crossed through the basement over to their sweethearts across the street… Nice bar, and room service is virtually around the clock… People is their greatest asset, great location. The restaurant was, ok. They didn’tt have enough menus for everyone on the table, and service was a bit slow. Food, ok. For the right price, I’d come back. Location is great!

Beautiful historic hotel and I found the staff to be very courteous, professional, including those who stand outside manning the door. Kind of expensive, I was a business traveler here so I was not so concerned about the price. Good location near river in center of Baton Rouge, what I would call walking distance to touristic attractions like the Shaw Center for the Arts, various other museums, the historic old state capitol and the Huey Long era «new» capitol, and the riverfront with the destroyer USS Kidd to check out. Quite convenient if you have business downtown or with the state government offices. I liked my room very much.
The lobby is quite nice and attractive and a good place to hang out, they have a quite good breakfast, and the bar is cool.

Our conference at this hotel was last month and the staff was great to work with. If we had any issues, they were on it. The meeting rooms were laid out well for our tons of small break out sessions. And the Heidelberg Ballroom made a beautiful backdrop for our main sessions.
We had a few bobbles with last minute room changes, wonky wireless internet (in only a couple of rooms) and a lack of hot water over the weekend. But all in all they were great to work with. Rooms were clean and we heard no complaints from our 250 attendees.
All the food was very good and our attendees from outside of Louisiana were really impressed with the hotel catering.

For government rate hotels in Baton Rouge, this will probably be in my top two (the new Residence Inn is my tops[
, but its always hard to get a room).
Yeah, it’s hard for to really feel Baton Rouge, but I get a feeling for it when I stay at the Hilton downtown. The building is old, but it’s obviously been renovated and is a top notch place to crash. I like the old-​style rooms, and the bed & linens are totally crash-​worthy.
The staff here is über-​friendly and helpful. They have valet parking here, but generally, I’ve been lucky enough to grab a spot on the street right next to the entrance almost every time.
My only gripes (they’re minor except for #3):
1) I’m half a Northern Plains Native and Scottish chap, so I like the cold; so when I’m at a hotel I generally turn my room into an ice box – the AC was adequate here (coulda been colder).
2) I also was working an eve shift during my last trip, so I needed to sleep in. Their curtains could have been a little better at cave-​ifying the room.
3) This hotel has a nice pool which has a decent view of the Mississipp. But what I was wondering is, «where’s the hot tub???» If this place had a James «played by Eddie Murphy» Brown hot tub, this place would be perfection!
4) No continental breakfast (maybe this is the ghetto-​ness in me, but I likes some free food!). Actually, this isn’t a bad thing. It actually forced me to venture out and explore the offerings of downtown BR.
5) Downtown Baton Rouge is a bit dead (not the hotel’s fault though!)
These are obviously minor & petty gripes. Even with these gripes, I’d give this lodging option 4.5 stars out of 5 (get that hot tub, and you’ll be my tops in the BR!).
Oh, and one interesting thing about staying here, whenever a co-​worker asked where I stayed and I told them the Hilton, I always got some envious looks – so obviously the locals must like this place, and obviously locals know best.
