Our Catholic Engaged Encounter weekend is an intensive weekend of work during which each couple is offered the time and opportunity to question, examine, and deepen their relationship with each other and with God. Couples are challenged to explore their relationship in a much deeper, more honest way than they have been before. CEE is recognized, both nationally and internationally, as a quality, highly effective, marriage preparation program designed to meet the needs of today’s engaged couples.

Topics covered during the weekend include self-​awareness, human sexuality, communications, decision making, Natural Family Planning, vocation, sacrament, unity and more.

History

Established in 1978.

Engaged Encounter was started in Detroit in 1968 by a couple that made a Marriage Encounter Weekend. This couple took their experience of Marriage Encounter and began adapting it for the benefit of engaged couples. They worked on developing the first national outline for Engaged Encounter and began giving weekends in 1975; using an outline very similar to the one we use today. In 1977, Catholic Engaged Encounter became legally incorporated as a national organization. In February, 1978, the New Orleans Community reached out and helped get Baton Rouge Community started.

Eric and Jessica have been active in Engaged Encounter for over 5 years. They were so thrilled with the Engaged Encounter retreat they attended, they joined the ministry and now attend weekends as presenters. Engaged Encounter continues to enrich their marriage now as it has before.
