Best Western Plus Richmond Inn & Suites

Found this place as a deal on Groupon. What a great deal. Very secure. Felt really safe. Super friendly staff aside from 1 bar tender. Unfortunately, housekeeping never cleaned our room but the desk staff made sure we had what we needed. Great breakfast included. Very clean and spacious. Also, there is an appetizer available daily at 5 pm in the bar. I would definitely return.

Bug in the bed! No microwave in room as promised. Asked to move, next room was extremely hot and had a strong odor. Was told there would be some type of compensation, but there was not. Never a manager available to speak with me, in person or on the phone!

the hotel maid service is bad

Pro: Spacious king bed with pullout twin sofa and space for a «crib» (was a playpen) Good for small family of 4.
Con: Found a bug in room, called ahead to let front desk know we would be late check in and to have a infant crib in room. We got there around 11pm and no crib was ready they had to put it in as well as crib sheets. Breakfast was mediocre, even though we were excited at the choices. Apple juice and orange juice was watery. No tortillas for my husband to make a burrito as was mentioned on website. Fruit loops was out as well as milk.
It was convenient right off I-​10 passing through and not bad for price. Probably just a fluke for our stay but hesitatant to ever stay there again…

This was a pleasant surprise. I haven’t stayed at a Best Western in years, but was intrigued by the «Plus» after their name. I have to say it was definitely a «Plus» hotel. The girl at the front desk was very professional and friendly. The room was beautiful and the mattress was exceptional. The full breakfast featured biscuits and gravy, sausage and eggs and plenty more. I will definitely seek out Best Western Plus hotels when I travel.

This is not our usual choice in hotel chains, and I was a bit apprehensive, but we stayed here two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. It was clean, the rooms were well appointed, beds comfortable (and I’m picky because of a back issue.) The staff was the most welcoming and friendly we’ve ever seen — at any level of hotel! They were always smiling and accommodating — from the front desk staff to the breakfast staff.
The included breakfast was a great surprise! Everything one could want except a choice of eggs — but their scrambled eggs were quite tasty. The grits, which we don’t see much of in Oregon, were delicious. Having real plates, silverware and cloth napkins was a nice surprise too. I hate paper and plastic dishes and utensils. Best of all — the coffee was good — and I’m picky about my coffee.
We’d definitely come here again!

Spent 3 wonderful nights here the last week of July, ’14 while on business in Baton Rouge. I reserved through
. Upon arrival, I was immediately impressed by the friendly, attentive staff and by the cleanliness of the lobby, common areas, the pool and the hotel room. Of special note was the hotel’s all-​you-​can-​eat, complimentary breakfast — it was a winner and ran from 6am to 9am every morning. Breakfast included a wide selection of sweet and savory breads, cold cereals, eggs, hot grits and oatmeal, sausage or bacon, muffins, make-​it-​yourself Belgian waffles, coffee, tea, iced water, juices. A bar located near the lobby provided adult beverages or sodas in the pre-​dinner hours along with a hot hors d’œuvre and typical nut mix and chex-​and-​pretzel style munchies. There is a good selection of moderately-​priced restaurants very close by. The hotel is easy-​to-​access, just off the I-​10, but rooms are quiet. The only «downside» — and it was a very small downside — was that the ice machines in the building I was in were out of order. HOWEVER, with that said, with a quick walk to the front desk, I got all the ice I wanted in short order. Best Western Plus Richmond Inn and Suites, Baton Rouge, is A-#1 in my book.

The only thing really saving this hotel from getting 1 star is their customer service. I was here for work, so thankfully I wasn’t around much. The room was musty smelling and there were lots of stains on the carpet. The bathroom was ok, but looking up at the fan there were dead beetles in the light, and I could see a couple in the fan as well. I also found a dead wasp on my window seal. Also, when I got there it looked like my room hadn’t been recently cleaned, there was a lot of dust, and the alarm clock was knocked off behind the night stand. The guys working the front counter were pleasant, and they called to see if I was ok with my room right after I arrived. I hadn’t really looked around, so I said it was fine. Anyway, the rooms could use some updating, and probably a good scrub down. I stayed down the road last month when I came from work, and will probably go back there next month. Hopefully things get better.

Great, great hotel! Clean rooms, pet friendly without being gross and cheap, and wonderful customer service!
We are moving across country and over the course of 3 days have stayed at one gross hotel after another, this was a wonderfully pleasant surprise! Would definitely stay here again!

Tried 2 different rooms before leaving. Both were musty and the furniture was old and beat up. Not pleasant.

I read all of these negative reviews on this hotel. I didn’t experience anything bad at all at this hotel.
When I arrived front desk staff was very nice, and my room was available. I had a one bedroom suite equipped with a full kitchen. Some other reviews said there were roaches. I did not see any in my room AT ALL. The room was very clean.
On Saturday. My AC was having some problems. But maintenance came right away and fixed the problem.
It was in a great area with plenty of restaurants and shopping.
I will definitely stay here every time I’m in Baton Rouge.

A newly renovated property that was just what I needed for one night. It was clean, very comfortable bed and a hot shower. The internet worked just fine for me too, heck they even offer a free hot breakfast. I arrived at my hotel just in time to go to sleep so there is not much I can say but that I had a very nice experience with great service.

Uggh get me outta here, stuck here for work… Ive been at this place a week and a half, have another week and a half to go, the end cant come soon enough, this place is not good.
First, a couple pros, the room is spacious and has lots of amenities and nice to have a kitchen. And the King Size bed is huge and comfortable, with a flatscreen in both rooms (not that it matters, more on that later). They also have a pretty delicious breakfast buffet every morning for free.
That’s about it for Pros, now for the Cons. First, COCKROACHES! not tiny ones, big ones. 3 times Ive seen them and had to ask them to spray and it’s only been a week and a half as I said. The latest was up the wall right beside the bed. So now I get to lay at night wondering if another is gonna crawl on me.
Also, the TV’s and remotes are useless. The remotes only work for channel change and volume, sorta. Everything else is locked out. No chance of switching to HDMI to watch a movie on your iPad or if you brought a ROKU box or something to watch Netflix. Why on earth would I wanna do that anyway if Im staying somewhere for 3 weeks. Basic cable should be fine for that time #sarcasm They came and switched it over with their maintenance guy once and their solution was to call him to switch it for us every day if we wanted to watch TV. And also once its switched they suggested leaving the TV on so it wouldnt need to be switched again as it rewets when powered off. That lasted a day until the cleaners turned it off for me the next day, so much for that.
Not that it matters, the supposed High Speed internet they provide is more useless than the TV remotes. It barely works for just checking email. If I let it sit, it will come in small spurts after 10 – 15 minutes of waiting to refresh my gmail or refreshing 50 times since it keeps saying there’s no internet. Much less trying to look at facebook or something, I have yet to get the whole page to load. I was able to get a netflix movie to play on my first night but it was continually downgraded in quality and pretty pixelated in order to keep the stream going. If this was just a couple nights in a standard hotel place that’s forgivable as internet is usually pretty crappy in hotels, at leas tthe WIFI is. But this is an extended stay hotel, I think it’s pretty reasonable to think people might need decent internet occasionally during their stay. I do myself, not just for personal reasons but for follow-​up with work issues later in the evening. Ive had to do it all on my iphone as Ive given up trying to do it on my laptop with the Wifi. There is also no way to hard line connect in your room.
Also, the maids/​cleaners, they continually forget to leave dish washer soap so I can do the dishes (yes i could buy my own but why? they are supposed to provide it.) and also forget to fill the toilet paper or leave a minimal amount. A coworker I carpooled with a few doors down got out of the shower one morning to realize they had taken the dirty towels but forgot to refill with clean ones so he dried himself with a t-​shirt.
Need I go on? Steer clear.

Things I cannot deal with when staying at a hotel:
— Roaches
— Poor internet connection
— Unhelpful staff
This place has all three.
We spotted roaches several times during our 3-​week stay here. Each time we called front desk and requested pest control. Each time our request has been denied/​forgotten.
The internet connection consistently drops every 15 minutes. Forget trying to hold a business Skype call, let alone check e-​mail or even casually browse. We brought this up to management several times. Nothing has been done.
The worst front desk staff we have ever encountered. You can literally feel the malaise and indifference in their faces, you just want to punch their teeth down their throats.
I’m so filled with rage right now I want to destroy my room, except the housekeeping staff are the only few who are actually kind of helpful here. Or maybe my standards have been lowered so much by this place.

I booked a stay here while in the middle of my cross-​country military move. My wife, three-​month old son and mother arrived about 730 pm with our two dogs ready to rest after 12+ hours on the road. I had made the reservation about a month prior, but was told there were no more dual-​queen rooms available so we’d have to settle for a king with a twin sofa-​bed. When we went to pull the sofa bed out about an hour later it was disgusting. You can see in the pictures there were a lot of crumbs in the mattress, trash in the folds and grease stains on the couch.
We went to the front desk and spoke with Bre, one of two agents on duty that night. She said they could move us into a new room. We initially refused, as we had just put our 3-​month old to sleep and didn’t want to go through the 2 – 3 hour ordeal of getting him back to sleep after waking him to move. The simple solution that would have satisfied everyone would be to take the second room they were already offering and allow my mother to sleep their while my wife, son and I could stay in the original room. It would be no different for the hotel, as they would still have two rooms that could not be sold that night. She refused. We asked to speak with a manager and she went to the back office and called Scott Morvant who apparently also refused and offered us a 10% discount on the second room. He apparently said it would be «against policy» to comp the second room. When asked to see the policy, we were told it was locked in the manager’s office and we could come back Monday to read it. This all occurred Friday night. We asked multiple times to speak directly with the manager, but they said he was not available even though they themselves called him several times. After 2+ hours of going around in circles we finally agreed to look at the second room. When we pulled out that sofa bed it too had grease stains on the cushions and mattress. Bre said it shouldn’t matter since we’d be sleeping on sheets on top of the grease stains.
At this point my stubborn mother decided she could sleep on the lobby couch. The front desk immediately called security, who then offered to escort us from the premises. The final solution they offered was for one of us to sleep on the floor of our original room. I attempted to call the general manager a couple of times the following week during business hours, but had to leave a voicemail, which has yet to be returned.
There are several issues with this stay. First, not one, but two of the rooms had serious cleanliness issues with their sofa-​beds. Second, there was no on-​duty manager at 8pm and the one on call refused to speak with customers. Third, the front-​desk personnel had no authority to implement the only reasonable solution. They kept repeating that they’d get fired for helping us. Finally, any time that the solution proposed by a hotel is for the guest to sleep on the floor, there is something wrong. If they’d let me read it, I’d like to see if that’s «in their policy».

Baton Rouge has a wide variety of hotels to choose from. As a frequent traveler to the area, I have stayed in many of them. On my most recent trip I booked through Priceline and ended up here. When I realized it was a Best Western I was a little apprehensive. After reading the reviews, and scouring the net for details, I realized that the Plus in the name actually means something.
Check in was a breeze. I arrived shortly before check in and there was no issue giving me a room. The lobby was nicely appointed with a seating area, bar area and breakfast area. There was a small section of essentials for sale that included drinks, Advil, etc. My one complaint about the lobby would be seen as a positive by most normal humans. There were several containers of ice water for guests which was a nice touch. The problem was that inside of the water were cucumbers. CUCUMBERS! I can’t stand cucumbers in any form other than when they’re made into pickles.
The hotel is laid out differently than any other hotel I have stayed in. It seems that it was once an apartment complex, but that could be wrong. It is set up as several different two story buildings that are not connected to one another. There are also no elevators so if you cannot climb stairs, I suggest requesting a first floor room. The rooms all have a common hall with ice machines and laundry facilities at either end. I think the washing machines were a nice touch even though I wasn’t there long enough to use them.
The room was comparable to most 3 – 3.5 star hotels. The beds were comfortable, but lacked the super high thread count sheets and plush mattresses at higher end properties. Despite the lack of such ultra-​luxury bedding, I slept pretty soundly. The hotel was somewhat empty on my stay so I can’t really comment on how thin the walls are. I didn’t hear anyone else, but I don’t think I had anyone in neighboring rooms.
One nice feature of this hotel that you won’t find in many hotels is a lobby bar. Not only was there a bar, it had happy hour from 5 – 7. Happy hour included $ 5 mixed drinks and free hors d’oeuvres. Since I am not a girl, I skipped the mixed drinks and had beer. The selection was decent with no real craft beer options. I settled on a Pilsner Urquel which was good, but was $ 6. I wish they would’ve extended happy hour prices to the beer as well.
Another nice feature was free breakfast included in the cost of the room. Many hotels do a free breakfast, but this was among the better breakfasts I’ve had at a hotel. There were eggs, sausage, grits, hash browns, a make your own waffle station and biscuits with cream gravy. The gravy for the biscuits was very good and I could have made a meal of just that.
I really enjoyed my stay here even though it was just one night. I will gladly return, especially if I have a longer stay. If you are in BR and want a good value for your money, I recommend you check out this Best Western Plus.

To start my room was upgraded to a suite, which was really nice. They had a full kitchen in there plus seats at the breakfast bar to sit at in addition to a nice living room. The separate bedroom was nice, clean and spacious. The sink was outside the bathroom area, which is really handy if traveling with more than one person. The bathroom itself was small, but efficient for its function.
Some of the downsides include that if you have a room facing the highway, you can hear all of the traffic, which if you are a light sleeper could be a problem. Another issue is that when I took the do not disturb sign off my door so I could get my room cleaned, there was no maid service and I was gone for 10+ hours. However, I didn’t call the office to find out what happened either.
Overall, the rooms were nice, spacious, and clean. The sheets and towels were not scratchy like some other places I have stayed at are due to over bleaching, and most importantly the bed and pillows were comfortable. And I would definitely stay here again.

Conveniently located near LSU. I was happy with the room. King bed was very comfortable. Free wifi… except we didn’t get to take advantage of this because the guy at the desk didn’t give the password and when I called to get it, he gave me a phone number. Language barrier perhaps. We were too busy for computers anyway. We went to an LSU baseball game, ate on Perkins Rowe and back in time for SNL.
Overall, I’d stay here again.

I was at LSU to attend commencement this past week. There were also other events happening in BR at the same time — so hotel space was not as easy to find as usual. So we opted to try Best Western Plus Richmond Inn & Suites. We had a mix of adults and children in our party.
Sadly unimpressed!
So before going I read reviews and had a positive expectation. This was dashed shortly after arrival.
Pros:
Free Wi-​Fi that worked well and was easy to access.
Large, easy access shower
Very close to whole foods
Appeared renovated
VERY comfortable mattresses
Building D was quiet (ONLY when no one was stomping above — like a heard of elephants — loud enough to wake one from a sound sleep!)
Cold A/​c on thermostat with plastic curtain guard — both of which worked well
Nice breakfast area and pretty complete breakfast food options (If you don’t have dietary restrictions — if you do you’ll want to skip this as I don’t see it going well here.)
Cons:
Building D was quiet ONLY when no one was stomping above — like a heard of elephants — loud enough to wake one from a sound sleep! (I had to put this under both pro and con as I don’t know if it were an anomaly that a hippo heard was above us or if the sound is always like this!)
Not as clean as I would prefer!
–Two nasty dirty looking tan chairs (on casters) were in the room. Various shades of discoloration all over — as well as a hole or two. I don’t even want to think about what was causing the discoloration!
–finger prints/​smudges on TVset
–TP was hung backwards and the tissues looked ‘played with’
–toothpaste splatters all around sink, on wall paper
–used ‘angry birds’ band-​aid on carpet next to bed
-(possibly?) make up smudges on white pillows in various places
–one bed skirt pulled about a foot out on one corner which kind of polled on the floor.
–telephone filthy — as in don’t want to touch the buttons at all!
–window had greasy finger prints and smudges
–Poor bathroom floor design which resulted in a slippery lake on the bathroom floor! No floor drain — just water pouring out of the shower. There was a little hump which did not hold water back — especially if the shower curtain were closed!
Not maintained well.
–bathroom door falling apart. Literally would not close without slamming and then, when trying to open made terrible sound. The door itself was literally splitting into several sections vertically. I have a photo. If I can get it up here I will.
Very little — and awkward — bathroom counter space
Very high single sink in bathroom — much too high for children’s use, It was an odd hotel inconvenience, to lift each child, simultaneously hold them, help them wash/​brush/​groom — and they still could not see in the mirror — which was a foot higher still!
On a personal preference note — If a bedroom painted bright pumpkin orange and marigold yellow are unsettling to you — you won’t like this set up at all.
My conclusion — There are better hotels for the money in the LSU area! Since my concerns were with the room/​bathroom — which is where I spent most of my hotel time — I will not stay here again! However it may be perfect for elephants and hippos. ;)
