13th Gate Haunted House

Went on a trip to Baton Rouge and New Orleans during Halloween week in 2015, and the 13^th gate was definitely the highlight of the trip.
I was blown away by all the details put into this place. You can tell they put a lot of work into it. The automatons, the props, the details. Everything is top notch.
I would visit Baton Rouge again just to go back to the 13 gate.
It’s also much longer than most haunted houses I’ve been to.

Note: this review is for the 13^th Gate ESCAPE ROOM, not the haunted house. The members of my group have completed escape rooms in Orlando, Denver, and Las Vegas, and at 13^th Gate’s installment, we attempted both active rooms: «Death Row» and «The Collector.»
THE GOOD: hands-​down, these are the highest-​caliber escape rooms anyone in my party has ever experienced. The production values are somewhere in the stratosphere. The environments are incredibly immersive and incredibly dynamic. The puzzles create some very worthy challenges, which, unfortunately, we could not solve in time; however, because the puzzles are so well-​conceived, no one in our party found them unfair or unrewarding. In short, this was a fantastic experience packed with huge thrills and excitement, and we can’t wait to come back and try the upcoming rooms!
THE BAD: There were two people on staff when we attempted the rooms: a male and a female. I forget the male’s name (Josh?), but he was extremely courteous and helpful. The female employee, Marissa, seemed to go out of her way to adopt a pissy attitude. Any time we requested her assistance, she responded in the tone of a petulant teenager who feels perpetually inconvenienced by the world. Many of the flashlights the company supplied were low on batteries, and when we requested help, she basically told us to stop whining and carry on. It became pretty clear from her grouchy orders that she disdained our entire party, and maybe disdain isn’t the kind of atmosphere that you want to cultivate at an establishment like this one. In short, she was powerfully unhelpful. The guy (again, sorry I’ve forgotten his name) was very pleasant and positive, which brought greater emphasis to Marissa’s sour attitude. I’m not arguing that she could be fired and sent to Taco Bell to wear one of those sanitary plastic hats; I’m merely suggesting that someone should coach her on how to interact with human beings.
CONCLUSION: Again, I want to stress that in the overall, this place is fantastic. Undoubtedly, this is the highest-​quality escape room you’re likely to find, not only in the southeast, but in the country at large. With a little fine-​tuning in the HR department, 13^th Gate could be in a position to really have something special here.

Went 11/​13/​2015, I thought it was a lot better than last year. The sets and most characters were horrifically impressive. Unforgettable performances by the cave man who quickly leaped in front of a patron and grabbed onto the wall, the exorcist disappearing and reappearing act, the lady who apparently sawed her arm off, and the clown who almost ran us over in a van. Definitely planning to go back next year, even if no one accompanies me.

This season I’ve been to 20 haunts including Universal Horror Nights, Knotts Scary Farm, 6 Flags, House of Shock, 13^th Floor and this is the best.
I should mention I enjoy haunts, but don’t really scare easy. Heck if I jump twice from boo scares in a haunt the actors did an amazing job. With that said, my husband couldn’t believe his eyes when I fell backward while legitimately screaming in Necropolis. I was also genuinely uneasy around one character in particular in Necropolis too. (Thanks a lot Dr. Who!!!) There was one other incredibly patient and dedicated actor that «got me» when I thought he was an animatronic and he sent me jumping on my way. This may not sound like a big deal to the average person, but if you knew me you’d understand what an amazing job these actors did as well as the brilliance of the maze design ad application. It’s incredible!
Now onto The 13^th Gate haunt in the building across the street from Necropolis.
The best word to describe it, «WOW!»
The attention to detail is insane!!! LIVE rodents and snakes… are you kidding me??? Amazing!!! The actors are great. The sets are better than Universal Studios Hollywood Horror Nights and that’s a freaking movie studio! The 13^th Gate is simply mind blowing. There’s one scene that thrilled me beyond anything I could imagine. It felt like I had actually stepped into my favorite horror movie (technically the remake) and I couldn’t find my boomstick anywhere. I don’t want to give too much away, but the fairy tales were another favorite for me. Oh and London. Oh and the ice. Oh and… it’s time for you to stop reading this and go buy your own tickets so you can experience it yourself.
This event is not to be missed. We came all the way from California and were thoroughly impressed!

The consensus is in– 13^th Gate does indeed live up to its stellar reputation as one of the country’s top haunted house attractions. Venturing through the 13 horrific realms of 13^th Gate is guaranteed to get you in the Halloween spirit. Be prepared for the never-​ending, terrifying nightmares that you will be wanting to awaken from!
Our group of 12 opted to visit both 13^th Gate and Necropolis and spent a total of 1.5 hours waiting in lines and walking through the attractions. We arrived right before 11:30pm on a Friday night and purchased general admission tickets at the booth. I would advise coming during off-​peak times to have the best experience and not worry about running into other groups inside the haunted house. And ladies, please leave those heels/​sandals at home– wear comfy closed toe shoes.
Since we arrived at the later end of the night, we went to Necropolis first. Walking down 13 steps into an underground cemetery and navigating through the maze of crypts was definitely eerie. Every twist and turn lead to scary surprises, and the monsters of the night catch you off guard, leaving you screaming and running for your life.
13^th Gate mesmerized me in the most frightfully horrific way. The elaborate attention to detail in each realm was outstandingly life-​like and transports you to a Hollywood horror movie set. The actors really embraced their characters. Their corresponding costume and makeup allowed them to successfully deliver the ultimate scare experience. You really do start to wonder when the nightmare of horrors will end.
I don’t scare easily but I admit being scared a couple of times that night. One negative was the timing between groups. We ended up catching up with the group ahead of us, which lessened the anticipation of being scared since we could hear their reactions. I know it was pretty crowded that night and they probably wanted to shuffle all the people through before closing. Some parts were really dark and it was hard to see the path. No worries on getting lost though because the monsters will guide you along the way as they scare you!
Visit 13^th Gate if you dare– only the brave will survive!

This haunted house is spectacular!!! We went on a Saturday night and the line was wrapped around the building. Considering the amount people standing in line the line move smoothly and quick. I don’t want to give anything away but I was beyond pleased with the haunted house and the theatrical production I mean it’s awesome. We did go to the graveyard and honesty it wasn’t as good as 13^th gates. Please go I promise you you won’t be upset.
If you want $ 5 off bring a Dr Pepper can :-)

I believe that this is the best, most thought out, planned haunted house. I will start by saying I am not your typical haunted house goer. I don’t get spoofed easily and remain unemotional. I am a haunted house actors worst nightmare. Enter the 13^th gate. As a detailed oriented person I found the intricate work of the props, sets and cast makeup stunning. I don’t want to give away too much about the interior because that takes away the fun.
I will say that it is worth the trip from New Orleans to BR to go and it is worth the money. The house took us about 30 – 40 minutes to get through from start to finish. We also opted to pay for the VIP ticket to cut the line which I highly recommend. The line on a Saturday night can easily be 2 hours long and I definitely don’t have time for that! With the «cut the line» ticket we waited a total of 5 minutes. They also break you up into small groups of about 10 so the group in front of you doesn’t spoil the next scare. I was the first person in my group and I never saw or heard the group in front of us. This makes it more scary because you almost forget there are other people in the house besides your group. It allows you to take it all in and not get distracted. That is what makes the 13^th gate different from all the rest I have been to. They put a lot of effort in the production value and really want you to experience it. I won’t waste my time with other haunted houses in the area. The 13^th gate is where its at.

«The thrills, the chills and the spills»… we experienced them all! Oh the anticipation and an uneasy stomach leading up to this event made me one nervous nellie. The only way I told my husband I would go was if we went with a big group and that we did! We gathered for appetizers and drinks prior to the event to get relaxed and excited about getting scared out of our minds. Just looking at the website gave me the creepy crawlies, so I was not really looking forward to going. The last haunted house I went to was on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA and that scared me half to death! We spent a majority of the time in the dark engine room of an old ship with a constant invasion of our personal space, so the thought of another haunted house was not in the cards! Going with a group is so much better! Safety in numbers!
Anyway, my husband has been wanting to go to the «13^th Gate» since we moved here and this year, we finally got a chance to go! So here is how it went down. Our group decided to go pretty early to avoid a super long wait. The lines were not that terrible. We still had to go buy tickets — the ticket booth was across the street from the haunted house and went by pretty fast. Want $ 5 off? Bring an empty Dr. Pepper can (each person in your group will need to bring one). Easy enough. Not everyone in the party needs to get in line, so if you are going with a big group one person needs to bring all the cans with them in a bag (for the # of people in your group) and that one person can buy tickets for everyone. Once we had tickets in hand, we crossed the street and went to the end of the line. The end of the line happened to be on the other side of the building (by the train tracks). If you end up there… wait time to get in is approximately an hour. Need to use the restroom, while in line? There are port-​a-​potties, but those are a bit dark on the inside, so go across the street to the «Brick Yard» across the street and buy a drink, so you can use the restroom! It’s clean in there! There are actors dressed in scary costumes that will completely catch you off-​guard and try to scare you in line… that creeped me out! I don’t like strangers in my personal space, but they cannot touch you!
Upon the entrance, make sure you group does not get broken up… it can happen! Let them know you want to go in together! The sets were quite impressive and the actors never broke character! I got scared during several parts of the house… yes, people do pop out at you and some may not look real, but don’t ever doubt they will move and try to scare you. Now, for the million dollar question… was it terrifying? Coming from a frady-​cat, like me, it was not! By the time they opened the door to the outside, I was like… «that’s it»? After seeing that kids were allowed to go, when accompanied by a parent and 12+ could go alone, I was thinking, how scary can it be? Many parts of it look very realistic. So, I do suggest checking out it out, if you live here in Baton Rouge because it is one of the best Haunted Houses in the country! I am so glad I went and experienced this frightful phenomenon! It really brings out the Halloween spirit!

Outstanding job. Pricey but worth it. We did the VIP pass because we drove from out of town and were not sure about the lines, still worth it. The initial effects were grand. The construction was well done and the characters did well. I think it is a must see.

No doubt about it, this place is the best. I have never seen anything like it. Very detailed sets. A clown came out of the ceiling at one point and I jumped back so far that I actually fell down and skinned my elbow… so yea… it’s scary. I really can’t begin to explain the awesomeness of this place and I also dont want to spoil your experience… so just go see for yourself. It’s well worth it.
Oh yea… make sure you wear tennis shoes or flats.

The sets are allegedly created by award-​winning movie-​industry production crew members, and it shows. The scenes are well-​done, the ideas are unique (walking across a bridge over a pit of live snakes? Yes, please), and the price is very reasonable. It was the longest and probably the most well thought-​out haunted house I’ve ever been too.
That being said, as good as the sets were, one must always account for the human variable– the possibility of bad actors. Some were great, some looked 16 and bored out of their minds. One was standing around and chewing gum. I can’t say if this is a constant thing, as I’ve only been through the 13^th Gate once, but every haunted attraction I’ve ever been to thus far has had at least a couple sub-​par actors, so I wouldn’t NOT go here on account of this.
One final and very important note: if you go here (and you should), make damn certain you also go to Necropolis 13, the new haunted venue right across the street that’s owned by the same people. It’s only $ 10 more if you go to both, and it’s the best haunted attraction I’ve EVER SEEN. A 40,000-sq. ft maze of over 400 tombs winding through a dark and creepy graveyard that’s infested with blood-​drenched zombies, among other things. Have you ever been chased at a full-​on sprint by a screaming zombie? That’s something you don’t soon forget.

Better than The House of Shock!
My friends and I came here Friday night and it was AWESOME! We absolutely loved it. Once inside you weave your way around in line till you get on the elevator.
Then it begins!
You won’t be disappointed. Come and get frightened at the 13^th Gate.

This Hunted House is amazing. I went last year with my brother and the different rooms were so cool. I would recommend that if you buy the VIP pass online, you still get there early. When they finally let us in we did have to wait a while for the elevators to start taking people down, but it was worth it. They had some children there. I think the youngest person I saw was 6.

This is the best haunted house you will ever go to. If you disagree, go to it and get back to me.
The sets are extraordinarily elaborate. The crew who build the house work on real Hollywood movie sets during the off season which gives you a clue to how realistic and perfect everything looks. Their first scene, The Hellevators, can very well compete with Disney’s Tower of Terror Themeing. I have no clue how they fit everything inside their building. There is everything from underwater submarine sets to swamp areas.
The staff has always been very «friendly.» That’s in quotes because most are in character so they might not appear very friendly at first, but they have always been helpful to me when needed.
The line to get in is usually rather long, though they try to move it along as fast as possible while giving everyone the experience they deserve. My tip is to go early or go on a slower weeknight early in the season.
