Ordered Combination Fried Rice– they had forgotten to do the fried part– it was really gross. I am just mad that I didn’t look at it before I left with my to– go order as it was obvious. I’m sure it was an oversight but it wasn’t edible. Additionally, the quality of meat is really bad here. It is very, very cheap so I believe they could easily raise their prices. It is the only show in town– save yourself don’t eat here. Such a shame that this place has gone so downhill. It wasn’t awful when it first opened but now, yuck. As I said, it was a mistake on their part, but it wasn’t busy and it was a mistake that cost me money and time. I ended up making the fried rice myself from scratch to go with the main entrée I had prepared. I learned I cannot even count on this restaurant to save me the time of making a basic, classic, staple dish. Ugh sorry I didn’t take a photo — it would have been worth 1000 words. I was angry and chucked it with some choice words. I’m not going to make my evening more tedious by digging it out of the garbage. Hopefully you get the point.

Reasonable buffet. Adequate food. All you can eat. Wait staff often rude. Would have rated 3 stars otherwise.

We thought this restaurant had a great selection of food and terrific service. There were several classic Chinese dishes as well as kid friendly choices — plus ice cream!

Gross. Poor selection, cold food, dirty plates, cups and silverware. My cup had someone else’s lipstick on it still! Gross! Bathrooms are so bad my family left to go use one someone else. Nasty. Nasty. Nasty. Don’t waste your money here and bypass the health risks.

It is okay. We don’t have many choices in Bastrop. It will do in a fix for Chinese. But not someplace I will come regularly.

I enjoy eating here. The food can be hit and miss, sometimes items will taste old. The sushi is delicious. I love the rangoons and coconut shrimp(on good days). I also enjoy the ice cream they keep at the back of the buffet. It’s a cheap, typical Chinese buffet.

I can’t even tell you if the food is good or not because this place denied us entry because we had a registered, legally identified service dog with us. They were rude, had no interest in the federal law regarding service animals and would not allow us in. We went to Jaliscos instead, where we were welcomed, treated with respect, and had a delightful meal. We will never return to China Buffet and will be reporting them to the ADA(Americans with Disabilities) and telling everyone that they won’t comply with federal law.

Like someone else has stated, if you feel the need to strap on the old feedbag and get stuffed for cheap then this the place to go. There are a couple of decent items on the buffet like the general tso chicken and crawfish but in general everything is overcooked and/or coldish and dont me started on the sushi… it passes for sushi only because as far as I know this is the only place in bastrop where you can actually get sushi. But all said, I always find something I can eat here, sometimes I even feel like tempting fate and potential botulism and find something on the sushi tray I like. My biggest complaint about this place is the number of mouth breathers and their 6 ill mannered unkept spawn that frequent it because its a buffet. I wish restaurants would kick people out that dont keep an eye on their kids… ive never seen more unattended kids at a buffet and ice cream bar before and irs just gross…

Please try this place if you would like to experience bad Chinese buffet food at its finest. And if you want to wonder how your server keeps a job. And if you want to see what a restaurant looks like before it becomes accepted on a restaurant make over show. Thank you

Sub par generic Chinese buffet. Almost the same selection and quality as Hibachi Buffet. I don’t think you could have paid me to eat sushi here. If you like a generic Chinese buffet you will be fine, but this just isn’t my cup of tea.

Meh. It was exactly what you’d expect from a Chinese buffet on a Wednesday nite. Most of the food had been on line too long. I never did see anyone bring out hot product. Still, I got what I expected.

I’ve been here a few times in the last few months and I must say that it’s a great deal! The staff is very pleasant and accommodating in every way! The food is good and it’s just $ 10!!! You just can’t ask for more. And if there’s something missing from the buffet, ask the waiter, they will get it for you! AWESOME!!!

Stopped by during work the other day for a quick lunch. Not very impressed. The food was mediocre and not very hot. 1) Fried rice — did not appeared to be fried. Looked and tasted like they added some yellow food coloring and some vegetables to white rice and called it «fried». 2) My coworker said that the fish was cold. $ 10 per person. Only one trip to the buffet. Didn’t see much need to go back on seconds. Left disappointed. I work in Bastrop and was hoping to find an affordable place for a quick lunch.

I’ve been to this restaurant many, many times, because now and again I really like to strap the olé feed bag on and it’s one of the few buffet choices we have here in Bastrop. It’s kinda hit and miss with this place. I like shrimp, and there are a lot of shrimp choices among their entrees… deep fried, pan fried, several stir fry types, and usually boiled shrimp. Most of it is pretty tasty. Their chicken and beef entrees are usually pretty good. I think their unsweet iced tea is great. I like the baked salmon, the hard boiled eggs(hard to mess those up but I like that they offer them), their greasy fried potatoes, the sriracha sauce on the table… there’s no shortage of things I like, except… The sushi. Sometimes they can be super slow to replenish it when it starts to run low. They generally have shrimp, eel, tuna and salmon to go with the california rolls and a couple other types I don’t have a name for. Tonight they had two pieces of shrimp left when I got there, among the kinds I really like, and in the time I took to eat two plates of food, they still hadn’t replenished it. I went and got one more plate(I know, I’m a pig) and while I was eating that, they finally marched out with more sushi. I was a bit too full to bother at that point. I think there’s also a bit of a shortage of vegetable offerings. They offer the standard green beans, which are usually good when they’re fresh, and I can pick some broccoli out of the chicken and broccoli if I want, but other than that there’s just this really sad iceberg lettuce salad mix, a tomato cucumber salad(drowned in Italian dressing), and some fruit. Some steamed veggies would sure be nice, or I dunno, just something a little healthier. Their napkin dispensers are horrible. They have those spring loaded types that you have to fight with to get a napkin, and you can’t get just one without tearing it. Boo. Well, what else. Nice hot water in the restrooms, I like that. A few of the waitresses are very pretty, nothing wrong with that. The service is generally decent, you know, not much to do except take plates away, fill the tea glass now and then and bring a check, but they get it done. I’ll go back a jillion times, no doubt about it, I just hope they have my sushi ready next time!

Well, I’m going to have to remove a star. My husband and I went today after going to the gym, and our experience wasn’t so great. The food was still okay for the most part, but some basic items had clearly been sitting out too long. The pork eggrolls were a mixture of fresh and old, such that my husband got a new, crispy one, and I got an old, mushy one. The restaurant should probably remove the old ones instead of just dumping new ones on top. The lo mein was discolored, sticky, and cold, obviously as a result of sitting out for a very long time. Most other dishes were hot, fresh, and flavorful, but the restaurant should pay attention to how the basic staples of americanized chinese food are faring out on the buffet. I’m sure we’ll be back at some point, hopefully China Buffet will be back to its old self.
