Bastrop River Company

We rent from them just about every trip we take to the area. Friendly staff. Great kayaking. Good prices. It’s a fun day on the river!

I feel like it earned a 3.5 star review, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt and give it 4 stars. There was limited parking, but we were able to find spots within a short walking distance in downtown Bastrop.
My biggest complaint was that they were not prepared for the big crowd that they had that day and as a result we had to wait at least 30 minutes to an hour on a shuttle van to drop us off to float. Then when we were picked up by the shuttle it seemed as though they may not have enough of the tubes we upgraded to. We did end up with enough tubes and once we got on the water it was a great float.
I floated with a group of 11 people. We all had Groupons. We had a young man (maybe 18?) helping us that seemed overwhelmed by us and our Groupons, but we were able to use them no problem. Just make sure you have the Groupon app, because they wanted to make sure they were redeemed on the app.
Loved the lazy boy tubes. Also loved that none of the tubes were black as it was already SUPER hot.
The float itself was very calm as there were really no rapids to speak of. No shade and the water was mostly shallow. I know I spent most of my time at least partially in the water to stay cool because the water was warm.
The day we came, Saturday August 1, they had a floating band playing at the end of the float. That was pretty cool. It was also the reason that we had an issue waiting on a shuttle and with the number of tubes. They were telling people to start the float between noon and 1pm and of course that’s when everyone (over 60 people) showed up.
I also really appreciated that they had a dock. Other rivers I’ve floated didn’t have docks and the exits were treacherous.
Would definitely feel comfortable bringing children that could swim (with life jackets of course) on this float. You didn’t have a ton of people on the river which meant you didn’t have crazy drunk people all around you making it a safer environment for children.

First I would like to say the staff here make it so easy and they seem like they are having a great time even when it seemed busy.
We did the $ 70 total tandem kayak with our dog which was great! Slightly pricy compared to places if been but nice gear though.

Great company to go with for kayaking. They got us set up real fast and in the water in no time. We got signed and we’re given instructions on how to guide through the river for our all day kayaking. Handed us a waterproof box for our electronic because we know we couldn’t live without it. At the end of the day they picked us back up and it was over.

We had a great experience tubing as a family — we have kids ages 3 all the way up to 12. Here is some info I would have liked to know ahead of time: They provide rope to tie your tubes together. You’re not going to lose anyone! They have bottomed tubes that allow some water in, so the little guys are cool, comfortable, and safe as they ride. The entry point and exit points are both shallow and the flow is pretty slow so it’s very easy to get everyone in and out safely.
They will make all the kids wear a life jacket, but if you bring your own (we have puddle jumpers) they will let you use those. If you’re taking the 3 hour route, get a cooler tube and bring lots of water and snacks.
The flow of the river IS slow especially when there hasn’t been much rain. This was a plus for us because of the size of our family. We did have to push along some of the time on the bottom of the river, but it was no big deal. One or both adults should wear river shoes. There is a deep section where no one will be able to touch so be prepared to swim to push your kids along. Or you could get a raft with a paddle and use that to propel everyone. We did, but ended up letting the bigger kids take turns in it (12, 10, and 8) and they were very safe and had a great time!
If you’re lucky enough to have Robert take care of you, ask him anything and everything and he’ll have an answer. He’s super helpful and very nice. He even gave our son a shark tooth to take home!

The river was full of algae, had to constantly paddle down the river on the tube. There were no current at all to bring us down to the destination. The wind was pushing the opposite direction and we have to swim against the current and wind current. Will recommend you to go to other river tubing not this one.

This place is great and very family friendly, family of eight was happily accommodated.
It was great fun. We are definitely coming back. They have great options and I highly recommend the cooler tubes. There is a wonderful shallow beach area to stop at along the way and splash around.

I took my little girl here for a relaxing afternoon of tubing. Having never been in the area before other than driving through, I’ll be back with the rest of the family this summer.
The river is beautiful and we had it all to ourselves this particular weekday.
The employee was friendly and helpful.

I don’t recommend tubing down the river!
There was no current and the wind was pushing us the opposite direction. It was quite a horrible experience. Boyfriend and I had to paddle with our arms and legs constantly to move down the river. If we didn’t, we would stay in one spot OR the wind would push us the other direction. It’s pretty swampy too in some areas.
When we told the staff about our experience– they were apologetic. They said they knew that the current wasn’t strong because they haven’t had rain in awhile but I feel that they should have warned us about that before we signed up to go tubing. Like «hey, if you wanna go tubing down this river today, it’s going to take forever and its basically going to be a work out for two and half hours and the current isn’t going to be strong enough to take you down the river. just a warning, it’s totally up to you if you wanna go still.» OR «hey i know you wanna go tubing but the current isn’t strong enough to take you down the river so i suggest kayaking or paddle boarding. I WISH they would have told us that! We could have gone kayaking or tried paddle boarding!
I would come back and try kayaking or paddle boarding with the Bastrop River Company. I will also update my review and rating based off that experience.

Great place to Kayak!
My friend and I came here to escape the rain in West Texas. Bastrop River Co. proved a very worthy alternative to our original plans. The river itself is certainly not the prettiest, but it’s Texas! The weather and gorgeous views along the river more than made up for it. We did the 6-​mile stretch in about 3 ½ hours-​about which, my friend and I were extremely proud, given our fitness. For about $ 30 this was more than worth it. The staff is friendly, informative, encouraging and awesome! Although my friend and I may not go back since we are not into kayaking in the same place twice, I’m sure I speak for both of us when I say this place is definitely worth the visit.

We went here to tube down the river for a change. DO NOT FLOAT DOWN THIS RIVER! GROSS! It’s a swamp, water doesn’t flow and we were basically trapped for 2 – 3 hours. Had to paddle almost the entire time in stuff you don’t want to touch, needlesstosay, we didn’t even drink the beer we brought.
This would be great of canoe’s or kayaking… NOT FOR TUBING!

The 4 star rating is based off of how much I like the facility and the employees. I think Bastrop River Company is a great place to come for paddle boarding and kayaking… I came to Bastrop Rive Co to go tubing with some friends, and while we really liked the place and staff, the river ride wasn’t what we had hoped for.
Initially, we thought that floating the Colorado would be a good idea since it’s a little closer to home (Austin) than San Marcos or New Braunfuls, but we didn’t realize it would be kind of like floating on Towne Lake in Austin…
When we got to the launch ramp to put our tubes in the water, the shuttle driver had to tell us that the river was flowing to the right… The water was basically stagnant, murky, and there was a large slick of algae we had to paddle through to even get to the «river» part. For most of the float, we had to paddle or we would not move. The wind picked up a bit mid-​float and pushed us BACKWARD. I was personally hoping to lay back on my tube and drink some adult beverages, but this wasn’t easy since I had to paddle the whole way.
I would definitely return to Bastrop River Company for the paddle boarding or kayaking, but not for the tubing. I prefer more exciting river floats with clearer water. On the other hand, here a few reasons floating the Colorado may be a good fit for you:
–if you don’t want any white water, tube shoots, or strong currents
–may be good for smaller children and families since the river is calm, just keep in mind somebody will probably have to paddle
–if your group gets back before the last shuttle of the day (the day I went the last shuttle ran at 3pm) you can go again for free
–no can ban or disposable container restrictions like there is on the Comal
–you don’t have to worry about your gear tube flipping and you are less likely to lose glasses/​hats/​etc since the river is calm

This place is awesome! I usually paddleboard on Town Lake but we decided to change it up this weekend and rent SUPs from the Bastrop River Company on the Colorado.
Our experience: We paddled the 6-​mile tour. The owner, Lee, was super nice and offered to go with us without an additional fee. He gave us some great tips on paddling which made the experience twice as fun!
About the company: The staff was super friendly and accommodating in answering all our questions. Prices were reasonable and the equipment was in great condition.
About the river: Beautiful! The river has a very gentle and mellow flow.
I will definitely be back to the Bastrop River Company

Overall, a great place and great experience.
I would have given them 5 stars, but the guy running the desk was very busy grumbling about where his shuttle driver was parking the van. He was obviously very stressed that morning. So stressed that he couldn’t drop it long enough to give us a friendly greeting. He really needs to do a better job not showing that to the customers. We had perfect & prompt service other than that. In his effort to make sure things were running smoothly and give good service, he did just the opposite.
I’m writing this not to deter people from going… I’m hoping the owner might read this and improve on the one thing that was lacking.
Rates were very reasonable. No crowds like in New Braunfels. Flow was slow, but water was deeper than Guadalupe… no getting hung up on rocks. Right next door to Bastrop Brewhouse! Option to kayak, canoe, or tube!
I would go back. Hopefully the guy at the front desk takes a chill pill! ;)
In all fairness, this was July 4^th weekend and this may have been their first big holiday weekend, as it’s a new business.

Our group of 2 adults and 5 kids came down from Austin. This section of Colorado River is great. We paddleboarded, but saw that they also had really nice kayaks and tubes to rent. Jeff was very friendly and made sure our group had a fantastic time. We will definitely be returning here when we want to get back out on the water in Bastrop!

This is an awesome place to get away! They’re flexible, affordable and sincerely want you to have a good time. They’ve been open for just over a year and everything is great from my view! I was glad they DIDN’T have those terrible, orange, over-​the-​neck PFD’s.
I’d recommend the 14 mile Wilbarger Trail.

Living in Austin is great, but a short getaway to Bastrop is a way to mellow out. At Bastrop River Company you can canoe, kayak, float on tubes and even stand up paddle board. This time I went the tube route. I enjoyed the views along the Colorado River and it sure was peaceful. I like the laid back nature of this town and everything is walking distance from the shop. Make it a day trip or even stay the night. Bastrop is on the up and up!

My husband and I had a great time kayaking the river. Lee and his staff were very friendly! We highly recommend Bastrop River Company! We will visit again next time we are in the area! Thanks Bastrop River Company for a great day!

Lee our guide on our canoe trip was great and helpful. Made sure we had water and gave us tips on the river and the local eateries. Use this company it was a stress free drama free day!!!

I was in Austin (from Chicago) and wanted to get out on the water. A quick Google search resulted in several options for kayaking in the area but this one was on the Texas Colorado River instead of a boring lake.
I met Lee at Fisherman’s Park in Bastrop and launched form there. He thought of everything. I forgot water, he already had some pack in ice and on board! I was worried about my phone, he already had a «dry bag» secured to a lanyard on board!
After helping me launch, he snapped a few photos to email me and a few more as i pulled in down river.
Lee was on time, friendly and an all around nice guy. We even went to Billy’s BBQ and had lunch together.
If you are within 100 miles of Bastrop, go here to kayak then head into town and get a bite to eat or say hello to Larry at Larryland guitars. Good times…
