Specialties

My specialty is the unusual, difficult or complicated stone or tile jobs. I have carpentry skills so I can interface with surrounding framing on fireplace remodels and perform demolition and reconstruction. I am good at repairs and eliminating the cause of damage as well as fixing almost anything.

I can build you awesome retaining walls for hardscape and a patio to go with it.

I can do any kind of masonry from fine, exact cut work like the fireplace photo, to rustic moss rock or river rock.

I can repair or replace damaged sidewalks and patios.

History

Established in 1985.

I was in Boulder doing all kinds of construction and remodel and helping a friend deliver stone from his quarry. On one delivery the job super asked if I could build a retaining wall. I agreed to do it and did a little research and did the job.

With just a little marketing and a lot of word of mouth, soon I was busy with masonry all the time.

I brought the business to Aspen in ’89 and have been working here ever since. I have taken a few side trips on the way, stone sculpture, Isokern fireplace dealer, and a few extended stints in Chicagoland and Hawaii. I am here now and taking projects of all types and scale.

I started laying stone in Boulder in the mid ’80’s. I was doing all kinds of construction and realized I had a real talent for stone. I moved to Aspen in ’89 and started my business here as Independent Stoneworks. I shortened that to In Stone and I’ve been working here ever since. I also travel for projects occasionally, so if you are out of the area I still may be able to help you.
