This place is absolutely the best place to get fresh, local seafood. I’m totally speaking about ordering from the market. I have not yet eaten inside or ordered food to go. I have many times ordered fresh seafood to bring home to cook and have been completely satisfied all times. Most previous experience: I wanted to order blue crabs for a graduation party held on a Saturday. I called the prior Thursday and ordered 4 bushels of crabs(#2) to be picked up first thing Saturday morning. For those that don’t know, #1’s are larger and #2’s are not as big. #1’s are $ 120/bushel and #2’s are $ 65/bushel. I ordered 4 bushels of #2’s and you can’t beat the price of $ 278! They even steamed it for us free of charge. Of course, you pick it up cold and on ice but they’re just as good cold to me! They even gave us 4 containers of old bay with the crabs! They also had fresh shrimp, all types of fish, scallops, soft shelled crabs, homemade crab cakes, and even t-shirts. Come here for all your seafood cravings!

This is a great little seafood market and eat in Resturant. We stopped here on our way home from OBX. Soft shell crabs were the special and they were delish! Two huge crabs, fries and hush puppies. Best soft shell crabs I’ve had in a long time. Reasonably priced to. We live about 40 mins from here but it is worth the trip. We’ll be back for sure.

I ordered the soft crab dinner. The lady told me comes with 3 pieces crab. After i got the meal and open the box only 2 pieces. I go back and ask one more piece. Another lady told me depends on size may 2 pieces. I told her if i knew it possibly 2 pieces I wouldn’t order them. By the way the crab was about 3 inches and the second one was even smaller and dinner cost was $ 12.99. The meal was expensive, the customer service was very poor and meal was mediocre. I never go back.

Excellent seafood that you can either order to take out or eat in. Order at the counter and wait for number to be called. Even though it’s busy, wait time is usually short. Seafood is fresh and well prepared. Portions generous. Can be noisy when crowded and dining area doesn’t have much in the way of ambience. If you don’t want a meal, you can order steamed shrimp by the pound. All seafood extremely fresh and very good. Prices reasonable.

I would post a pic of the snow crab dinner I got w sides, but it was gone too fast! The snow crab legs were really good, two clumps of legs, not too salty and fresh tasting. Cole slaw was the very finely grated kind not too sweet, my fav. And the fried okra was perfectly fried, the okra still green and not mushy. The boy got soft shell crab even tho he had a bad experience before, but the lady at the counter said if he didn’t like it she would refund him… He also got crab cake sandwich, not jumbo lump, modest size, good flavor well seasoned, fries were hot and crispy. With two bottled beverages that came to 35.00! What?! The only thing that make that the perfect meal would be a cold beer. I even liked the kinda fish market feel/diner feel of the place. Nothing fancy just really good food!

A100! Pretty clean fresh seafood shop and restaurant. I ordered seafood combo. $ 18.99. Fried or broiled. Flounder, 3shrimps, 3oysters, 3scallops, chips, okura, 2hushpappies. Pretty good deal. Mountain of food. Enough for 2. The flounder was a little bit stinky somehow. All good besides that. All staffs are pretty friendly.

Great seafood for a reasonable price — wish everything wasn’t fried but otherwise very satisfied with the quality of the food!

Outstanding seafood going to or from OBX a must stop. Seafood at a fair price with great service. Take away fresh seafood and cook it your self or pick from their pre cooked menu and enjoy some North Carolina specialties.

Excellent Oysters! Simply Excellent! I’ve driven by here a hundred times over the years and never stopped in. However I went down to the Hatteras for a fishing tournament last week and we stopped in here and picked up a bushel of oysters. The price was $ 70 which was excellent and we packed them in ice and took them down to the beach house in Avon. The staff was very friendly and even took the oysters out to the truck on a dolly. I had quick moment to look around and am definitely going to be making a stop in here again on my next OBX trip to have some shrimp. On to the oysters. Once we got settled in down in Avon we broke out the equipment and had one hell of an oyster roast. Every oyster was fat and plump with a crunchy bite. They didn’t need any sauce at all. The entire bushel was consumed in just a few hours. Totally worth it, they’ll have my business again soon!

Excellent market on the way to or from OBX. We always stop to grab a bite to eat and pick up our seafood supplies for the week vacation. You can get dishes fried or broiled, either way it’s always excellent. You can also get live or steamed crabs and oysters by the bushel and all kinds of fish.

A local’s favorite. Great fresh fish and seafood for take out and also served in house. Super fresh, great service, no frills — just fish. I didnt think it was fishy smelling inside like other users. The takeout counter was very clean and the fish was impeccable.

Cousins are locals and when I visited this is where they took me. They recommended the calamari and the fish tacos… we ended up ordering the calamari as an app and the tacos for dinner. Loved the calamari. The fish tacos were tasty and plentiful(you get 3). You can tell how fresh everything is. It is a very casual place, you order at the counter and pick up your food at the window when they call out your order number. There is a market attached to also buy fresh fish or seafood. Prices are very reasonable.

I would’ve never known to stop here if it wasn’t for our church’s 1-hour drive just to eat at this place. Frog Island Seafood looks like a total dump from the outside, and the inside isn’t much better. The tables are a bit sticky, everything is old, and it smells like fish. So no, this isn’t a place you come to for the ambiance. But the seafood is amazing! The prices are pretty amazing too. They had a special on the day I went — softshell crab, shrimp, 2 hush puppies, and 2 sides for $ 12.99! The softshell crab really was good. I usually don’t order the softshell crab because it’s generally on the verge of becoming a hard shell crab again. But this guy was really soft — I could barely tell that there was any skin. Everything was fresh, and the shrimp were cooked just the right amount of time so that it wasn’t overcooked/rubbery. I got everything fried, but I heard there’s an option to get your food broiled too. As for the hush puppies, they were a bit too sweet for me, although my husband seemed to find them especially delicious. On the other hand, the fried okra had too much«okra» healthy taste going on for my husband, but I liked them because they weren’t overwhelmed by the fried batter. Matter of opinion, I guess. My one knock was that I was still a bit hungry after I finished eating. There’s an easy solution though. After lunch, you should drive the less than 1 mile to Morris’ farmers’ stand and get dessert(as well as tons of samples).

My honey and I stopped in last Friday on our way home from our OBX vacation. We ordered a fried scallops platter for the road and shared it in the car. We did the same thing last year, and I just wanted to see if this divey little market still delivered. It did. Yum, yum, yum… Yum.

This place is a MUST. We arrived into Norfolk and were on a drive up to Nag’s Head when we randomly decided to stop to get some local seafood eats at this hole in the wall. One of the«specials» that day for lunch was the soft shell crab plate. Lightly battered, fried, served whole and just mouth-watering delicious! It’s truly farm-(or I should say)-sea-to-table fresh seafood. The market area had no inkling of «fishiness» at all. Truly just smelled like the sea. The bf and I could not stop talking about the crab during our entire trip — even prompted a soft-shell-crab-crawl in town! Highly recommended if you’re in Currituck! Even if you’re not, make the drive out!!!

Wife and I love this place. We travel from Chesapeake, VA to Frog Island(about 30 miles each way) just for their seafood. Today, the special was 2 soft crabs plus fried shrimp for around $ 12 including 2 sides. My wife had the clam strips. This place is a true hole in the wall and used to be a crab shucking house years ago. If you are going or coming from the OBX plan a stop, you won’t be disappointed.

A nice little stop to get your seafood before or after going to the Outerbanks. Fresh seafood food at an affordable price. The softshell crab was delicious. The grilled scallops were fresh and juicy. The crab cakes were full of crab meats and barely any fillers, a ratio of 90% crab and 10% filler to hold them together. It’s a no thrill no frills little dive but aren’t they the best place for food?
