There are many reasons to choose the Bar Harbor Motel during your next visit to Mount Desert Island. We are located just 1 mile from the center of Bar Harbor and its bustling waterfront. The main entrance to Acadia National Park is only 1 ½ miles up the road and the Island’s free public transportation system stops right at our doorstep. From our property the town’s many shops and restaurants are close by and easily found. When its time to relax though and enjoy some peace, quiet and good conversation, the noise and activity of downtown seems miles and miles away.

The staff and management of the Bar Harbor Motel enjoy the hospitality business. Almost all of us live right here in Bar Harbor year round. When you ask us about a particular restaurant, chances are we know the chef. When you inquire about a whale watch, chances are we know the captain. We enjoy answering your questions and can quickly point you in the right direction.

History

Established in 1989.

Our 2 Queen Bed Units are designed to provide every comfort and convenience. Screened opening windows, blackout curtains and designer coordinated coverings and fabrics will tempt you to extend your stay indefinitely.

These units also feature individually controlled heating and air conditioning, remote controlled color TV with HBO Premium channels, clock radio, small refrigerator, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, screened opening windows and free wireless internet access.

The Bar Harbor Motel does not permit smoking or cooking inside any of our accommodations.

Great lodging for a family! Daily rate includes breakfast, snacks and drinks through out the day. Heated pool was a plus in early June. My kids enjoyed the trivia night and writing the names of the Maine wildlife they spotted on the chalkboard outside the lobby. Closeness to town and Acadia National Park makes this an ideal home base for your Acadia /​Bar Harbor trip.

We stayed here for 3 nights and could not have been more pleased. It’s a complex that will remind you of a 1960s motel, but with cleanliness and family atmosphere at a premium. Rope swings from an oak tree, nice pool, a charcoal grill to cook out, yard games, entertainment, and friendly staff all made for a very relaxed atmosphere. Free breakfasts of delicious muffins, hard-​boiled eggs, bagels and cereal. Convenient to Acadia Nat’l Park. Free city buses stop right by the front door. If ultra modern is your taste go elsewhere. But if you like nice people and comfortable surroundings you will not be disappointed here.

Why would you stay anywhere else? 1 mile from Bar Harbor, Access to Acadia Park trail right out back. Hosts could not have bee more friendly or accommodating. Activities for the kids, great breakfast. Heated outdoor pool. Playground. Clean, environmentally friendly rooms. Had a two BR seemed just like separate rooms. Just watch out for the bears!

Excellent experience. Very nice accommodations, each little «pod» of about 6 rooms is separated from the others. Quiet and peaceful. Very accomdating staff with various on site activities for families and easy access to free shuttle service to downtown Bar Harbor.

Perfect for our 2 families on vacation. Very friendly service, clean rooms, and the breakfast in the morning is perfect for both adults and kids. Greeted with a smile and hello each time we see someone on the staff. Close enough to walk into Bar Harbor for dinner, and the free trolley has a stop right at the entrance to the motel. Great wifi as well. Great value!

We stayed here for three nights recently and it was a great time. No fancy accommodations, ritzy or glitzy details, and that was more than a non issue with our assigned two room suite, with refrigerator, huge closet, and huge bathroom made it super comfortable with two tweens in tow. We were in the building in the very back of the property, which butted up to woods, picnic tables and a nice sighting of a deer our first night. Free in room WiFi, amazing breakfasts, and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and helpful!

This is one place which I can honestly say was exactly as advertised. Unpretentious, friendly, inexpensive, and clean. A wonderful staff will help you with everything from how to use your electronic door key to the best take-​out to the Acadia carriage trails. The rooms are comfortable and well-​maintained, with a small flatscreen, dorm fridge, and free wi-​fi. There’s an on-​site coin laundry, a «bike locker» with a free air compressor, a fresh «all you can eat» continental breakfast, and a bus stop for the free Island Express. A great place for families — there’s a clean outdoor pool and adjoining playground. Best of all, it’s a short walk, bus trip, or bike ride to all that Bar Harbor has to offer. It’s not high-​end, but it doesn’t pretend to be, so if you want a pleasant affordable stay, this is a good option. I just got back, and I won’t hesitate to stay there again on my next trip.

This is a motel that offered my husband and me every amenity we wanted and more we didn’t even use! In searching for a place to stay I was Looking for a place that was affordable, clean, comfortable and close to both downtown and Acadia National Park. This motel did all of that and more! The temperature in the room was consistent, the bed was comfortable and clean. Every person at the front desk was eager to help and give us directions/​suggestions. The access trails to the park provided beautiful scenery and fast access. The continental breakfast was pleasantly surprising including cereal, yogurt, muffins, bagels and even hard boiled eggs. The coffee was also delicious!
If you’re looking for a place that will meet all of the basic needs while traveling, this is it and offers even more. We will definitely consider staying here again!

Very pleased! My husband and I stayed at the motel for 2 nights in early June with my 2 and 4 yr old. We chose the motel specifically for the excellent rate for having 2 separate sleeping rooms (a must when travelling with small children who go to bed early!) The back room had 2 queen beds with a door that closed completely where my kids could sleep and a separate front room with a king bed.
I loved that the rooms/​buildings were grouped in clusters throughout the property with only about 8 rooms per building. Very quiet and private yet only a quick 5 min drive to downtown bar harbor or hulls cove visitor center.
Rooms were modern, very clean, well equipped with fridge and two tvs hair dryer etc. Playground and trail entrace to acadia definitely a bonus!
Breakfast was awesome. Nice selection of fresh food including fruit yogurt muffins bagels cereal oatmeal eggs, etc. There was a motel staffperson maintaining the breakfast wiping tables being helpful the entire time. Definite plus was that they had tea, coffee, fruit and kids cereals available throughout the day which helped tide littles bellies over until the next meal.
Front desk staff very helpful and friendly on each encounter. Upon checkin they even had a sample door handle/​lock and showed us how to use new keys to get into hotel room. Would definitely stay here again and recommend the place!

We stayed here for 3 night on our visit to Bar Harbor. I really enjoyed that the hotel had the trail that connects to the park carriage roads as it was so convenient for us to wake up and go for a morning walk/​run before visiting the breakfast bar.
Bar Harbor Motel will be my first choice when we return to Bar Harbor.

First and foremost, this is a motel, not a fancy B&B or hotel, so adjust your expectations accordingly. That said, the room was clean and comfortable, with parking right at the door. The staff was friendly, the breakfast adequate. We loved the cute magnetic «Do not disturb» and «Please clean my room» signs.
It’s close to the entrance to Arcadia National Park; you can even walk through the grounds to the carriage roads. If you want to enjoy the village of Bar Harbor, it’s a drive or shuttle bus trip away.
They had cute stuffed bears in the lobby which were available for purchase ($ 30), with proceeds benefiting park ranger programs that have been reduced due to budget cuts. We bought one as a souvenir and to support the cause.

The motel is conveniently located, the rooms are spacious and clean. It’s right next to Bar Harbor downtown and the Acadia national park. It’s quite, the buildings are separated into small cottages, the ones in the back are nice and private and its great for large groups and families with children. The pool is nice, the staff is friendly. Aaron at the front desk is a great customer service agent, super friendly and very accommodating.

Extremely nice motel. Continental breakfast was one of the best «motel» ones I’ve had– lots of options.
We were a group of four staying in a room with two queens. We had just hiked the bold coast trail and wanted to stop in Acadia for the night, so we stayed here. Extremely comfortable beds (we slept for 10 hours) and very close to bar harbor, which we hit up for dinner.
I’ll definitely keep this place in mind for future trips!

My boyfriend and I spent 2 nights during the beginning of June, just before their off-​season rates ended. We «splurged» and got a room with a patio.
As far as a motel goes, it was really nice, clean, and had a lot to offer. The room had A/​C, a big TV, a small fridge, and the basics. Our patio was a little walkway in the back with two chairs set in front (each room had two chairs in front of their sliding door), and then there was a bigger communal patio area just off to the side. The bed was comfy enough, and the room was really clean. There was also free wifi, but it was slow at peak use times (evening and morning). That is to be expected though, and it was still nice to have the option to look up directions or places to go.
We mostly just used the room as a place to sleep and change between activities, but they did offer breakfast, had a pool, and a play area for kids. We didn’t use their entrance to Acadia, but it was signed off and about 500 feet from our room.
The staff was friendly and helpful, and each room comes with a book with not only the information about the motel (pretty standard for any hotel or motel), but an informative section on what the area had to offer.
The location was pretty decent, it was never out of our way to stop by the room to change between hiking and shopping. We will definitely be staying again.

We were a family on Motorcycles all the way from California and Montréal. we were coming up from Boston, and wanted a place that would be affordable and comfortable for 6 people. And it was, we got the family room that gave us a clean bed and shower and a bus ride into town for a lovely BAR harbor lobster dinner and view of all the shops.
What a lovely downtown and central park area as well. Yet when you come back to the Bar Harbor Motel, you feel at peace and almost alone to sleep and get ready to move to the next destination. I loved the relaxed feel it gave me. The others in our group got up early to visit Arcadia and I decide to stay back and rest.
The breakfast in the morning was more than enough and sweetly displayed.
I loved the area and would return, there is so much to see, and so much LOBSTER to enjoy, thank you for a wonderful visit.

Since 2010, I have stayed here for three times. I am disappointed that they increase their room rate so much…
Last two years, during the SAME SEASON, they charged only $ 89 for a night but this year they charge $ 125 for a night. Big Difference…
Wi-​Fi wasn’t strong enough.
The service is still good but I probably will find other inns for next year…
