Woody’s Taco Island

We ordered the Jamaican Jerk Chicken ($ 8): 3 tacos filled with jerk flavored slices of chicken, honey-​lime mango salsa, a very interesting slaw they refer to as JiCama jalapeño slaw. The chicken wasn’t as spicy as I would have hoped, but it was flavorful. The sweet taste of the mango was a delightful addition. If you are a Caribbean food aficionado this probably isn’t the place for you. It is an interesting mix of Mexican and Jamaican fast food. It was good, but the portions were pretty small. I think this was rather pricey for the portion size. It should have been $ 2 cheaper.

I’m a little confused by the negative reviews here — these aren’t meant to be authentic Mexican tacos, these are Caribbean flavors. If you’re looking for a different kind of taco, this is not your truck/​restaurant. They are, however, the best and most consistent shrimp tacos, fish tacos, and jerked chicken that we have around. I do value cooking methods and food safety very highly, and that may be why I love these guys so much — I’ve watched them cook their chicken and I feel completely safe eating it. That adds to how delicious it is — tender, juicy, nicely seasoned, always fresh.
I miss them being their own truck, but am happy to eat at the rum bar for these tacos, and when the Slainte truck has them on the menu we track them down there too!

This place is a joke

What a shocker. Taco truck is off the road. Can’t imagine why ???

They said their food truck would be at the under armour downtown until 3, I go down there at 2:30 and can’t find it. Looked for 20 minutes. Called the restaurant and the guy has an attitude and tells me they left early. Very disappointed, used to like it now I’ll never patronize this place or their truck again.

My husband LOVED the woody’s hot dog and I thought the mango-​chicken quesadilla was delicious! Prices were a bit high but thats not out of line for a food truck these days.

The fist time I saw this truck I was so excited. I love tacos! I love food trucks! The lady that usually takes the orders is so great, always enthusiastic and friendly and efficient. Unfortunately, although the chicken tacos sound so good they just aren’t so good. The chicken comes as these giant pieces of white meat with no discernible flavor at all. They just taste like plain white meat chicken. The jicama, mango salsa looks pretty, but it also has no flavor. There is also no heat. Nothing special about the tortillas either. Overall, there’s really nothing offensive about the food, it’s just super bland.

Not really impressed with their food. Had fish tacos, pork tacos, and gumbo. The gumbo was the best tasting item.
Prices do not support this average fare.

I tried them in their Wagon, they were out of 3 menu items, and that is all that I knew of because they were my three main choices! I decided on jerk chicken tacos, THEY WERE OK at best, totally not worth the price
Waste of money

Having not liked the food in the restaurant, I was hesitant to try this. My pork tacos were not very good. The meat was dry and charred (So many places have mastered pulled pork, how did you mess this up) and actually there wasn’t enough of it, needed more sauce too. It was just very disappointing and for a lunch to cost 9.54, you want to be full and say «yum»…I’m hungry and unimpressed.

hhmmmm for years I have seen on menus fish tacos. I was never ever really tempted to order them, they just didnt seem like something I wanted.
WELLLLLLLL! lets just say the Woody’s Taco Truck re-​wrote how I felt about fish tacos. I walked down to N. Calvert were they were at Center Stage and I pondered on the menu for aaaaabbbooouutt a life time. Jerk Chicken. no Fish… nah braised pork. No Fish. ok ok ok Chicken. Then when it was my time to order I blurted out fish tacos please.
They def have a great system with the order prep. The order line moved quickly and the order pick up line was fast and organized.
I took my fish tacos. that were tucked nicely into a box back up to charles street. I pass a bunch of places to enjoy outside, but it was humid as all get out so I chose to eat them inside with the A/​C at work.
As I mentioned before I wasnt sure what to expect. first I should say I very rarely order fish out. Seriously maybe a fish sandwich here or there. But I have a shell fish allergy and I am always afraid that they will prepare it all on the same surface.
I swear I ate the first taco so fast I didn’t even realize it was gone. Dont judge me 0_​o ! So with the second one (you get 3 with a order) I took it more slowly. And damn. let me just say, I will be stakling Woody’s
I dont know what everyone else’s fish taco’s taste like but these were fantastical. Little batters chunks of fish with some tasty jack cheese sauce and salsa. yuummy.
Also. most folks were ordering the fish tacos.

Woody’s Taco Island FOOD TRUCK was a great lunch find (check their website to track this truck down).
The tacos are a bit expensive, but overall I would say it was worth it. The taco combos (either $ 9 or $ 12 depending on meat type) come with three tacos as well as some extra slaw and pico de gallo. I was full and satisfied.
FOOD:
— Fish tacos! This is their signature and most popular taco and it was GOOD. The fish itself is freshly fried, excellent crispiness with moist center. NICE. Single flour tortilla was nothing special. However the accompanied toppings with the taco were superb, not to mention Woody’s sauce. The ingredients seem to be well thought out and definitely create a great and balanced flavor profile.
— Adobo braised pork! A friend and I traded tacos so I got to try the pork. Excellent as well. The meat has excellent spices, but i really appreciated the pickled red onion. Well done.
Cons/​constructive criticism:
— one thing was that the tacos seem to «leak.» It might have been from the slaw/​veggies/​sauces but as I ate my taco, a puddle of liquid ended up on my plate. Maybe try draining the ingredients before putting them in the taco.
— as with all the other reviews, it might be hard to justify the price. I agree that each of the combos should come with a side and one of their signature salsas that are currently $ 1. Make it happen woody’s, because I really wanted to try everything on the menu.
OVERALL:
— great non traditional tacos
— excellent meats and taco toppings with great balance of flavors

Tried this out today and while it was decent, for the price it wasn’t worth it. I really liked that they let me mix and match so I got one pork, one chicken, and one steak. Part of my problem was that the order I ate them in. Unfortunately the one I liked best I ate first and it got less enjoyable as I went on.
The pork tacos were really tasty and were the highlight of the meal. I highly recommend them. The steak were good but nothing memorable. The meat was very tender so that was a plus. The last one I had was the jerk chicken and that was almost inedible. I know that allspice and cinnamon are staples of jerk rubs but whoever did this one way over did it on those. It was like eating cinnamon chicken. Very off putting.
I got a side of the cuban rice and black beans mixed together. Those were very good.
All in all, not worth the $ 16 I paid. Like someone said earlier, there isn’t much incentive to go here versus a place like chipotle when talking value. The tacos from Woody’s just aren’t good enough to warrant the extra cost. Especially when there are places like R & R taqueria at the white marsh mall that taste much better and are so much cheaper.

Even though Woody’s food is delicious, I’m going to need them to let the air out of their prices.
I ordered the Adobo braised pork tacos. A coworker ordered the Ginger Rum marinated steak tacos. My order was 9 bucks, hers was 12. We mixed and matched tacos between the two of us so that we could get more bang for our buck.
Although the pineapple deliciousness spoke to me as I ate my tacos (braised pork), I couldn’t fathom paying 12+ bucks each time just to get these flavors.
My biggest concern for Woody’s is, once the novelty wears off, folks will be back to Chipotle happily paying 6 bucks for 3 tacos. 3 tacos they can mix and match (chicken, steak, barbacoa, etc.) True Chipotle doesn’t give you the unique flavor palette that Woody’s gives but, do you want to pay upwards to 20 bucks for take out Tex Mex?
My suggestion for Woody’s would be to do a bit more market research, revamp your menu to include mix & match items, offer a side with your lunch combos and find another way to justify your bottom line; other than passing it along to your patrons.

I was on my way to lunch and spotted Woody’s truck parked on McCormick Rd in Hunt Valley and decided to give it a try. The menu consists mostly of tacos — you get 3 of them — either pork, steak, fish, chicken or falafel. I went with the Jerk Chicken tacos. I didn’t try any of the side items, since $ 9 is about what I want to spend for lunch.
These tacos were AWESOME. They came with jicama slaw and pico de gallo, and each taco was topped with crumbled plantain chips and mango salsa. Just the right amount of spice — perfect. And 3 tacos was plenty, I didn’t think side items were necessary.
That being said, I would love to see a taco combo — maybe 1 or 2 tacos and 1 or 2 sides for the same price, rather than 3 tacos.

So Baltimore’s newest food truck is out on the road. I got a chance to stop in this afternoon and while I walked away impressed, my wallet was definitely a little upset. I got the fish tacos, black beans, an order of chips, and a coke; my bill? $ 19.
I’ll let that sink in for a second, $ 19.
Now with that being said I ate all of the tacos and loved every minute of it. The tilapia was full of flavor and the sauce was tangy with a little bit of spice, but they were $ 12, which I felt should have included a small order of beans and some chips or rice.
The black beans were delicious but there was a ton of them, great for sharing with someone.
The chips were a good mix of blue corn, red, and regular corn variety with with the right amount of lime, but unfortunately too much salt.
The diet coke was cold and refreshing.
My suggestion is for $ 12 include a small amount of chips and a single serving size of black beans.
