UMBC – University of Maryland Baltimore County

I hate the customer service here! Very rude, impatient, irritable, and condescending admin people!

Out of all schools I’ve been to UMBC takes the cake for being the most depressing. The school is constantly doing construction on campus or on the major entrances to get into campus making it impossible to get to class on time. The advising staff really couldn’t care less about you either. I’m constantly being told to run around campus during summer and winter break trying to sort out scheduling. On a slightly more positive note the buildings themselves are pretty nice. Fresh paint, nice student lounging and clean bathrooms. Still if you would like to have «the college experience» and graduate in anything less than 5 years I would not recommend this place.

Higher education. The RAC is a nice area for special events.

Most boring and depressing place I’ve ever been. There’s at least five construction sites on campus. Administration doesn’t care about the safety of the students (campus remains open despite sidewalks being covered in ice).
Transit services go to a variety of places and are usually very reliable though.

Great in the aspect of being an honors university the advisors are terrible and be expected to get charged for everything including paper. It is a very trustworthy school, you can trust the people you are around. The most praise goes to Dr. Robert Anderson advisor and professor he can be your psychologist and mentor off the record he sincerely cares. As for the coursework this is a school that goes by lectures and tests mainly so if you aren’t a good test taker I do not recommend it. Advisors frequently lie to you so just make sure you do your own research for courses needed and graduation requirements.

I can’t get wait to go to UMBC later on and I heard it’s so amazing.

I graduated Spring 2011 with a BS in Biology. YAY!
Hrabowski’s doing some pretty amazing things with the STEM program here… definitely take advantage of what is to come.
its not quite 5 stars only because as a transfer student, i came across several snags and issues with having credits transfer over from MC. counselors really cant help you during orientation, so if you know a credit transfers, do everything you can to get it fixed so you are not held back a semester. not every class is offered every semester and such. if you know what you need, forms, classes, etc. dont be afraid to tell who ever is working the front desk whats up. they still get paid regardless and you can just waist your time if your not persistent.
but besides that, GREAT CLUBS (i was part of VSA), great ways to make your name known, and great culture/​students. dont let the «smallness» of a university deter you from considering the school. had i went here all 4 years from the start, i most likely would not have run into any problems!
