I was first diagnosed with asthma at the age of 2. So at the age of 36, I’ve seen my fair share of asthma and allergy doctors over the years. Without hesitation, Dr. Shier is the best I’ve seen.
You have his full attention when in the examining room with him. He is a very good listener. Too many doctors are too busy talking to listen to their patients.
Another quality that I find rare in doctors which he exhibits, is the desire to get me on the fewest medications and at the lowest doses without having symptoms creep back. He has gone to great lengths to get my medication doses correct, rather than over-​prescribe, which seems to be the trend of the majority of doctors.
He has taken interest in some of my other medical history, which other allergists would write off as not relevant to their specialty. I believe he feels it is important to have the whole picture of my health situation.
Lastly, when he does communicate to me, he is very clear in giving instructions. He speaks very gently, but deliberately. And his entire staff (front office and nurses) are top quality.
I highly recommend him. I drive way out of my way to see him. Keep in mind he is often ranked at the top of Washington Checkbook’s Top Doctors, so getting an appointment with him can take a few months. He is in high demand. Don’t wait until allergy season to make an appointment!
