Royal Razor

Unfortunately after two haircuts I decided I needed to look elsewhere for a good haircut. It doesn’t help that the furniture and the décor of the lobby is poorly maintained.
The lobby of RR is nicely styled, but unfortunately the furniture is in bad shape. The couches are nice, but they need to be replaced with more durable furniture. I noticed the pictures frames on the wall are very dirty and dusty, and many of them don’t even have pictures in them.
I also noticed the nice accent stripes on the wall are peeling off, with makes what should be a nice, clean lobby (and probably was a couple years ago) seem trashy.
The hardwood floor is beautiful, a nice touch. I think it’s the original hardwood. By the way, I love the architecture of the blocks surrounding Royal Razor; some really beautiful, old buildings.
The Barber’s stations were mostly quite dirty, and the edges of their cabinets were swelling with moisture rot. They seriously need to be replaced with more durable furniture. There was so much hair all over their workstations each time I went (I went right after they opened on a weekday, and a second time during the early afternoon when there were almost no customers). I strongly recommend Royal Razor steps up their cleaning game.
The first haircut I got was decent. It was a simple cut, my hair wasn’t long at the time. I thought the price was pretty steep at $ 25 (Old Bank Barbers runs around $ 16, and Floyd’s charges $ 24 or less).
The second time I went, though, the results were very disappointing. My barber actually took the time to make a phone call to his old cell phone provider — right in the middle of cutting my hair! I couldn’t believe it!
My Barber and I also talked briefly about how my barber (who was a Black gentleman) didn’t really know White styles, which is a problem because I’m a white man. I think most of Royal Razor’s clientele is Black and so are most of their barbers. With the white, hispanic, and Asian populations steadily increasing in the downtown areas of Baltimore, though, it might be a good idea for the Barbers to diversify their styles and techniques.
I wish the best to Royal Razor and hope they make some changes to improve their services. I would love to have an excellent barber shop within walking distance of my house!

I have finally found a place get my 4 year old sons hair cut after 2 years of trial and error non-​child friendly, discriminatory horror barbers! As a Nubian queer mom, taking her son the barber is a big thing. I get nervous by the extra male/​Dom attention, and my son is getting settled into his persona as a decisive male. I give him his space and allow him to experience having that understanding of trusting someone in his personal space. We walked in on a Thursday afternoon 4pm-​ish with all seats full and 2 heads in front of us. The décor was nicely coordinated overall. The empty IKEA picture frames adorning your walls were screaming for some really cool visuals to give the shop that final touch. It was like a sad DIY project that was given up on. Don’t lose hope! It is the first impression for your customers as they are waiting there for some time. The initial greeting wasn’t very warm. I looked for a sign in sheet. They didn’t have one. (please get one-​basic customer service) We sat and waited for one of the 6 barbers to give us our invitation of service. Total wait time was about 15 – 20 mins. Jordan, who seemed like the more seasoned barber age wise invited us to his chair. I broke the ice with a brief name introduction and explained what I wanted style wise and let the man do his thing. He communicated with my son and was gentle the WHOLE TIME! Success in my book as my son was beginning to develop a fear of going to the barber shop. He praised how good my son was while getting serviced, reassuring him that he in fact was a «big boy». They grow so fast… any who I recommend this shop to moms! We will return.

Very professional and clean barbershop. I have just started bringing my son here for his specialty cuts and the staff is very friendly and on-​point with service. I would certainly recommend making an appointment in advance (at least 24 hours ahead on their website). I was relieved to be able to include the tip on my VISA as many shops do not offer this courtesy. For moms feeling weird about being in a barbershop, it’s very cool and laid back, you will not feel like an outsider :-) The prices are great and always good movies playing. I recommend Manny for precision and up-​to-​date cut styles but all the work I have seen leave RR is always on point. Love it here!

Excellent place. Coop did a fantastic job on my haircut. I have super straight Caucasian hair. He asked all the right questions and followed thru accordingly. Nice guy and an all around pleasant experience. Highly recommend.

Moved to Maryland over a year ago from NY and couldn’t find a good barber shop for my son. Found Royal Razor on Google and I took my son there a few days ago. It was worth the almost forty minutes drive from Belcamp to Baltimore. Thanks Mike Brown for that awesome Mohawk, he loves it!

Went in for a haircut. Guy didn’t know how to use scissors only clippers so when he realized he couldn’t do much with the scissors he just shaved my head when I asked for it to be a little shorter. I left with a straight up buzz cut… he was so embarrassed that he just told me it was «on the house»…he wasn’t rude to me or anything, but do yourself a favor and go to a real barbershop.

Worst cut I think Ive ever had. I’m here on business and the cut is so bad I literally got back to my hotel room and called my buddy to get the name of his barber for when I visit him tomorrow and set up an appointment for as soon as I arrive in the afternoon.
I’m sure they do a fine job on black guys’ hair but I don’t think the guy I had has ever cut a white guy’s hair before. I would have really appreciated his honesty before he absolutely butchered everything he tried to do from the back to the sides to the top. At one point two other barbers were checking it out and giving him advice on what to do.

Had a good cut today from Q. Place has a nice vibe, is clean, and the barbers seem to take their work seriously. Had to wait a little bit, but it wasn’t too bad — especially since I was a walk in. The price was $ 25, which seemed fair for a men’s cut.

I love this barbershop and would highly recommend it, especially to new Baltimore residents.
When I first moved to Bmore, a coworker suggested this place, and I went, reluctantly. Barber relationships are a big deal for black men.
First time I went, I didn’t have to wait long and I got my hair cut by Q (who has since been my steady barber). He did an awesome job and was attentive to what I wanted. A big selling point is that he (and I assume all of the barbers) use a straight razor on your shape up. Since becoming a regular, I’ve used the shop’s website to create online appointments, which is extra convenient, especially since you prepay using a credit card.
The one thing I would say is the price is sort of steep ($ 25 for a cut), but my appreciation for convenience, cleanliness, and professionalism allows me to not care too much.
Also, they offer many services beyond just cuts. I haven’t done anything «extra,» but it’s a real full-​service men’s grooming shop.

Great barbershop that I checked out because of some Unilocalers I trust. It is right down the street from the hotel (Monaco) I stay in. Bonus that they offer appointments online and you can pay ahead.
Very cool open layout with a lot of action going on. Went with the cut and shave and both were superb. Getting an old school shave is a treat and something I don’t have the opportunity to experience all that often. It’s nice that I can book 45 minutes and take care of them both. I scheduled with Jarrett and he was outstanding. I will definitely be back.

Staff was personable, but I got a cut that was uneven in the back. Asked the barber to fix it but of course it wasn’t fixed because I don’t think he could see there was a problem. Unfortunately I’m too nice to make a big deal of it.
Then I got charged $ 25 for a haircut (which on their price list included a beard trim). I wasn’t getting a beard trim so I thought I was getting the $ 15 «clean up». But that’s not what I got charged.
So now I have a bad haircut and paid $ 10 more than I was expecting.

Second review– Update !!! I was a little frustrated that I showed up Friday after having paid for an appointment with my regular barber for six months (Joe) only to find he’s not there anymore :(. To his credit, the owner stepped in and credited me immediately but still sad no Joe– I also wasn’t crazy about the cut I did get from Juice (nothing bad– but he just ain’t Joe) ! Oh well, moving onto Jarrett– in my 20+ visits, he’s definitely the only one who cuts so good– I don’t even miss Joe– lol (although I’m sure any of them can give you a good cut)…still a faithful RR acolyte !!!

Good service. If you have Asian Hair and you get Asian Faux Hawks, you can go to Jarrett Flowers. Very nice guy, and wants to be on the same page as you the whole time he is cutting your hair.
You can book appointments online. Haircuts can take about 45 min, so expect to have some time. They take their time to make sure you look great.
only ⁴⁄₅ stars because the haircut is $ 25. Coming from CA, I’m used to paying $ 9 for my haircut. However, this is the cheapest, closest, and most non-​ghetto place I could find around where I live.

My new preferred barber in downtown Baltimore. Olé school (hot towel razor shaves) meets new school (book and pay online). Very diverse client base as well.

I went here to get a haircut for my wedding and thought the reviews were good. I asked for a basic taper haircut. Unfortunately the fade lines were uneven lengths and so was all of my hair. The owner and the barber were apologetic and refunded me when I came back and they inspected my hair. Normally I’d deal with this pretty okay but since my wedding is in a couple days I’m pretty upset to get a bad haircut when I asked for something so basic and now I’ll be going back to beatnik to hopefully salvage what’s left of my hair.

I think this place is just what downtown Baltimore needs… The owner has a vision of gentrification in this area, and is willing to be the lead in that direction.
As far as the shop goes, it’s a nicely done style, with big open spaces and couches available to just hangout… I was informed that Baltimore traditionally has ‘white’ and ‘black’ barbershops, but that this place caters to all. I believe it! I got great service and a great cut from Jarrett. He took the time to pay attention to every detail… and the next day for the first time ever, I received unsolicited comments from coworkers, saying how good it looked…
Go here for more than just a haircut…

First off let me state, that one of the most challenging tasks for a Black man in America is to find a GOOD barber shop in a new town!
No matter where I go, I am always weary about where to get my hair cut and if you’re anything like me then you can attest to this. But the buck stops here! I was blown away from the curb! The outside appearance is very pleasing. Too pleasing almost. As if they are trying to cover up for something lacking on the inside, be it equipment or barbers or condition of the building. However there is NOTHING lacking on the inside. It is very comfortable and welcoming on the inside. Big screen TVs everywhere and couches.
On to the barbers… I can’t vouch for everyone personally but I didn’t see any displeased customers during the hour I was there. My haircut didn’t take that long, I hung around a little after my cut. My barber’s name was Yiro. He did a great job! He was very friendly and even gave me a couple places to check out seeing how I’m new to the area. The prices are slightly higher than the average barber shop, but that is for a reason. The service is above and beyond! Got a fade, shave, a mini facial (no homo), and a sort of facial massage (no homo again) all for $ 25! And i didn’t notice that night but the next day i looked in the mirror and noticed that my skin looked amazing! I had been breaking out since I moved to the DMV due to the climate change but Royal Razor had me looking silky smooth!
I highly recommend this place! The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because they didn’t offer me a beer or have a half nekkid lady apart of the staff greet me!
Bonus feature is that you can book an appointment on-​line to avoid long waits.

This place can cut Asian hair!
Royal Razor is a fun place and you might want to get your hair cut and styled here as well. Clean and spacious with a nice lounge and many TV’s, this barber shop is a must try for all the men out there.
The owner is very professional and friendly, and his staff are great at cutting all types of hair. I had the pleasure of having Jarrett do mine and was definitely not disappointed.
I want to give some kudos to Royal Razor’s website. It’s definitely inviting and pretty slick. You can make appointments there and check out the events they hold every now and end.

Went for a cut tonight, these guys get it done right! Professional friendly service and these guys seem to take great pride in both their work and their shop. I will be back for sure, great addition to the area!
Awesome tvs and free wifi is also a plus!
