History

Established in 2011.

Protean Records began operations in 2011 as a storefront in historic Federal Hill, near downtown Baltimore. Over the next few years, the store expanded to include several sizable rooms to accommodate a growing inventory. The result is an extremely clean and well-curated assortment of media formats, ranging from blu-ray discs to cassettes and atari games. The literature ranges from the latest popular bestsellers to absurdly arcane and academic tomes. Some highlights include an unbeatable local history section, a shelf of painfully rare roleplaying games, wheelbarrows full of manga, and a fiction section that is crisp enough to pass for new. The store is constantly acquiring new items, and always looking for ways to become more involved with the greater Baltimore community. It is conveniently located off the Russell Street exit of I-95, or just a 5 minute walk from the stadiums or Inner Harbor. It is also a bus stop on the purple route of the FREE Charm City Circulator!
