Hidden gem ! Owner, Bill, was very helpful. Kurek’s has tons of stuff including a great shovel which I found here the day before the Blizzard of 2016.

I don’t know why all hardware stores can’t have people like bill! I called to have my mirror cut(can’t really find a place that would do it) and he definitely went above and beyond to help me. This is why it’s sometimes better to do patronize small businesses. They are all about their customers!

I’ve been going to kurek’s hardware on O’Donnell St. since I moved to Baltimore years ago. They custom made screens for my apartment in Tindeco Warf apartments. Now I have a house and shop at Kureks whenever I can. They are ready and willing to dispense valuable advice whether you buy anything or not. Although they are small, strangely enough they usually have what I need. Kurek’s is the real deal.

Kurek’s always has the exact thing you need. The owner is quick to help you find whatever you are looking for, and he’ll explain what you need to do or what else you need. It’s a great place you can walk to and get the hardware you need at a decent price, and be in and out, you’re not in a long line at a crowded Home Depot for however long.

If you need some keys made, some glass panes cut, nails, or a tool or two, Kurek’s is great. I wish there were more shops like Kureks and I wish people more supported these mom’n’pops. Its shops like these that make Charm City charming for me as a non-native. Kurek’s doesn’t have a major selection of inventory, but they do have odds and ends and basics that might fit the bill. Not only that, it’s fun to go in a non-cookie cutter store and browse through the assortment of hardware they carry. The only problem is, that Kurek’s is not a go-to and now that Ace is down the street, I’m afraid Kurek’s is probably going to bite it, in time.

I totally hate home depot. I get waves of anxiety the second I smell that weird wood/plastic/chemicaliness emanating through the automatic doors. SO imagine my glee when I found this neighborhood gem. Kurek’s is tiny — I mean really tiny — but somehow they always have everything you could possibly be looking for. Heck, I even bought a new(rat-proof) metal trash can there on a whim last week. The owners are knowledgeable and helpful and lovely in every way. If you live anywhere close by, make it a point to try to use this local option vs the big guys.
