I came here because I purchased a Groupon deal. I never really gave this place a second look, even though I live not too far away, because I don’t eat much Indian food(outside of what my job orders for us occasionally) and I wouldn’t have any idea what to order. I finally bought the Groupon and decided to give it a try. I ordered the chicken korma, which came with basmati rice, and an order of garlic naan. Both were very delicious! I think it was a safe dish to try this visit and it won me over to try this place again. The service was great as well. I ordered carryout and when my food was ready, the bag was bought to me instead of me having to walk back to the counter. I really appreciated that. They have a new customer!

It seems as though this business is under new management. It had wonderful food, but now all the food seems the same(a red tomato sauce.) This is definitely sad as this was our favorite place!

Proceed with extreme caution. I used to love Kohinoor once a week for its reliably good delivery, but I think the restaurant must have come under new ownership with a preference for awful imitations. This change happened in the November timeframe. Both my wife and I had food poisoning. Figured we just had a bug. Everything is consistently bland or salty. Buyer beware.

Ordered the chicken biryani mild which came with raita. Had it delivered and it came in about 30 minutes, which was nice. Overall the biriyani was great, not the best i’ve had but I really liked the amount of heat and mix of spice. Will definitely get it again.

My folks were craving Indian. We recently moved to the area from a neighborhood overwhelmed with good Indian food(Mount Vernon). We selected this place completely at random and placed a delivery order on Eat24. It arrived no more than 25 minutes later. It was actually so quick that we weren’t even prepared and hadn’t turned on the porch light! The food was surprisingly good. We only had two selections since my wife was at work, so we will have to try it again to see how the Saag Paneer is. We ordered the Chicken Korma and it was the best tasting that I can remember in recent history. I don’t order this often but my folks do, and if I am around I often steal a bite. It was way more flavorful than the last time we had this together from Akbar in MV. And Akbar is sort of a long standing«standard» to compare other places to. The second thing we ordered was Shrimp Tikka Masala and it was good. The appearance was reddish-orange but brighter than I am used to. Akbar is a little darker and Indigma is similar but has a bunch of spices in it. It tasted good and was not«ketchupy» as I have had in the past and didn’t like. Looking forward to trying this place again!

Our first time ordering from this restaurant. They delivered our order in 20 minutes. Chicken Korma and Shrimp Masala. Absolutely delicious! Both entrees were amazing. We will definitely return.

Excellent Indian food. We get delivery about three times a month from Kohinoor. I put them in the same category as Kathmandu Kitchen. Both a excellent. Kohinoor’s service is great. I had one delivery snafu and they were very apologetic and comped part of the order and declined the tip. The saag dishes are excellent. As are the masala. My wife loves chana masala and Kohinoor’s is really good. The roti, naan, and samosas are always warm and tasty.

I’ve only gotten delivery, so I can’t say how the restaurant atmosphere is. But the food(the most important part!) is five stars. Their vegetable biryani is out of this world, the samosas are awesome, and they know what«extra spicy» and«vegan» mean. I can’t wait to try more dishes!

Absolutely LOVE this place! I was working late, and starving, and decided to order from Kohinoor. I ordered Veggie samosa, vegetable biryani, and onion chutney. Simply fantastic!

I used to love Kohinoor for its reliably good food, but I think the restaurant must have come under new ownership with a preference for short-cuts recently because my take out order tonight was terrible. Where the food used to be perfectly spiced, tonight our usual order of chana masala and muttar paneer was less than bland. The muttar paneer just tasted like store bought curry powder, and the chana masala tasted entirely of tomato with none of the usual garlic, ginger, or chili spice. The samosas were way too salty, and the roti was basically stale pita bread. Also the takeout packaging was different which I think is just an indication of the probable ownership change. I’m sad Kohinoor will no longer be my go-to because it had always been tasty and the service had always been fantastic, but I am definitely looking for a new spot after tonight.

Not only did the lackluster food turn me and my friend off, but so did a racist occasion at Kohinoor restaurant. Food: Service was quick. However the food was not really good. We ordered chilly chicken, mattar paneer and samosas — the samosas were nothing special, the chilly chicken was mediocre, and the mattar paneer/rice had little/no seasoning respectively. Masala Kitchen in Charles village INFINITELY better food. The facility is also not well maintained — a newspaper half-covered a hole between the bathroom and dining area, and there were flies buzzing while we ate. Racist Incident: My boyfriend and I both used the bathroom after ordering our food. The front desk hostess said nothing to either of us and was very pleasant. While we’re seated, an older black woman(dressed professionally) wanted to order some food and use the bathroom. The same front desk hostess sternly told the woman to make sure she did not make a mess while using the bathroom. My friend and I were taken aback as the hostess said nothing to us when we used the bathroom. It was also very rude and discriminatory to have warned the older black woman to control herself in the bathroom — as if she did not know how to handle herself in a public restroom? My friend and I were already 12 minutes into our order — otherwise we would have walked right out the door and never came back. I was very angry at the hostess’s disrespectful tone to that woman. My boyfriend and I apologized to the older black woman and she left without purchasing any food. This incident made our dining experience terrible, and we both deeply regretted putting money into this establishment. Kohinoor will NEVER receive my business again. Black patrons — be wary

I’m currently new to the area and was searching for some good indian food. I came across this place, which conveniently is down the street where I am staying. When I’m ordering from a new indian place, I usually get butter chicken… just to play it safe. So I went in and ordered the butter chicken and some naan to go. It was about $ 14 on the meal, which I felt is pretty average for Indian food. I went home, opened up my meal and was very disappointed with the portion. I felt like I got a sliver of butter chicken and the naan reminded me of basically pita bread. and less Naan consistency. I asked for the butter chicken to be medium in spice level and I felt like the spice level 2 wasn’t even mild. That was pretty disappointing. Overall would I eat here again?.. yes, for its quick and convenient. But if I had time… I’d try and find some place more tasty.

I have found my new go to Indian spot in the city. Ordered the Chicken Tikka Marsala and the Chicken Korma. Both delicious. I will definitely go back again and bring my girlfriend who introduced me to Indian food.

Ordered the chicken tikka marsala for delivery. I’m always leery to try new indian spots, but I wanted something delivered and it seemed ok. I picked the most normal dish, one that isn’t usually bad. I think I’ve been spoiled by my local indian spot(gateway pizza, sounds weird but it’s amazing!) because I was far from impressed. The tikka marsala was yellow. I’m tempted to think they sent me the butter chicken by mistake. Either way it didn’t have much flavor and the rice was just plain rice. I can almost compare the dish to something I could whip up at home from a jar. Service was great though and delivery was quick.

This is my first experience eating Indian food and needless to say it was fantastic. Delivery was prompt and the food was so delicious. I would give more details but I ordered the food yesterday and the review I am writing today. I ordered the Samosa Chat and Chicken Korma(medium spicy). Both I would recommend if your first trying it.

This is an informal place but has some really good Indian food to offer. Catering to the student population, they have good prices and offer mostly freshly cooked meals. For a $ 1 extra, they will deliver. We ordered Peas+Paneer(Mattur Paneer) and Aloo Gobhi(potato and cauliflower) with wheat Rotis. Get this, the Rotis were freshly rolled and cooked — makes a big difference. Potatoes were chopped a little too big, which I have noticed, is usually the case when the cooks are from Nepal or Bangladesh. The entries are served with rice and they were quite good. We also ordered apps– good old samosas and deep-fried cheese in some sort of batter. Don’t recommend the later deep-fried appetizer impersonating as cheese pakoras — didn’t jive at all. The place is run by a friendly attentive couple. The place was quiet and I suspect is mostly a carry-out/delivery type joint.

I love their chicken tikka and nana! It’s so good. The owners and employees are always very sweet and helpful. It is a little pricey at times but, the taste makes it worth it! I would recommend this place for takeout or just a quick eat! Also location is very clean!
