The best darn banking experience I have ever gotten from a branch! This place really puts other banks to shame.
The clientele that the place serves is very interesting — from professors, to students, to janitors.
The branch has an unorthodox setup in that for your basic banking needs you do not see the teller — you interact with him on screen and hand over your paperwork/​forms/​money via the banking tube/​chute system. Many, many tellers available — I have never had to wait in my years as a customer. You also get a cashier’s check a day for free if you need that; many banks charge a $ 10 fee for each one.
Everything else is the same — you go to an office when you have more complicated matters, like opening an account. No appointment is necessary waiting time at most is probably 20 mins. Everyone is friendly here!
In response to Navaneethan S. who claims that JHFCU did not/​does not have ATMs on the Homewood Campus — not true. There is one in the Ralph O’Connor Rec Center (school gym) for at least the past 5 yrs and one in the Wyman Park Building, as well as the M&T Bank ATM inside the MSE Library — which is surcharge free to JHFCU Customers

I’m extremely disappointed by the services offered at JHFCU. I recently closed my account, but needed to access some of my statements to locate a transaction. Not only do they not allow me to login to my old account (which another credit union allowed me to do, so it’s not a bizarre expectation), but they offered me the low, low fee of JUST $ 5 to print out and send me my statements. Okay, I said, can I fax you a request and have it sent back to me? No, of course not. They’ll mail it to me. By post. No fax. No secure document transfer (which my other credit union did have, by the way). Seems really antiquated.
This, and the fact that you didn’t have an ATM on the campus you purported to serve (at least when I was there from 2012 – 2014) makes me think that you guys really need to work on updating your services.

I went here for a VA home loan, but they didn’t offer them.

Update: Regarding the card fees, JHFCU just contacted me, and let me know that replacement fees for the first incident are typically waived, as are other valid circumstances such as stolen cards (you have to provide a police report, a requirement that I think is legit). But kudos to them for reaching out and having proactive customer service. You really can’t go wrong here…

Pros:
— It was easy to get an education loan (the two times I needed one). The application process was kind of old school (some paperwork had to be mailed in instead of doing it all online). The first time I dealt with an assistant branch manager who was slow in responding but the second time I had a wonderful loan rep who exceeded all my expectations in her promptness and friendliness.
Cons:
–My debit card got stolen. When I asked to renew it, they wanted to charge me $ 12. Huh? Even big greedy banks don’t charge for replacement cards but this supposedly customer-​friendly place does? Well guess what, I took my debit card transactions business elsewhere — where they don’t charge me $ 12 for something everyone else provides for free… This is one of the reasons why I did not make them my primary bank.
–I think they are trying to make this better but many procedures are still super antiquated. Many things have to be mailed when you can do them online in most places.
