Hyatt Regency – Baltimore Inner Harbor

This is my latest (and most expensive) experience with a hotel that does not live up to the most basic requirement I have for lodging (besides the absence of bed bugs): the ability to get a decent night’s rest. I was there for two nights, tried two rooms, on different floors and on different sides of the building, and achieved two hours of sleep each night– and that was with two separate noise makers operating (one came with the room). Admittedly, I am not a heavy sleeper; however, the amount of white noise present in my rooms should have been more than enough to suffice.
The first room, ninth floor, harbor side would have been fine, if not for the constant reflected traffic noise, which only abated from 2 AM to 4 AM. I don’t honestly know how soundproof hotel windows can feasibly get– but these had a long way to go. A loud car would go by about once each minute, beamed right through my window.
For my second night, I was moved above the pool (eighth floor), with the hope and assumption that the extra roofing below would block some of the traffic noise. It blocked about half; meaning that, while I could not hear every car going by, I could still hear most of the ones starting from stoplights and/​or stop signs. Additionally, the refrigerator in this room was loud, and turned on frequently (every 10 – 15 minutes, for 5 minutes); it could be heard clearly over even the traffic. Also noted, hallway sounds (doors) were more noticeable in this area of the hotel. Finally, there was an odd dragging, scraping sound from above or beside the room, that continued throughout the night. I still have no idea what caused that one. Not sure I want to.
The only other two issues I had with my stay was the price of the food (expected) and the inconsistency of the shower temp– both of which could have been easily overlooked, had I been able to sleep.
The workout room was well appointed (even offering hot towels and complementary fruit), the rooms and public rest rooms were clean, the staff professional, the view (from harbor side) was gorgeous, the location was ideal– sadly, all hard to appreciate on two hours of sleep. I have several other conferences coming up soon, held at the Hyatt, and I am seriously considering staying elsewhere.

Well earned 5 star review for an excellent all-​around stay.
Room: Comfy Bed, large TV, beautiful views downtown, large walk-​in shower with granite tile.
Other perks: super nice gym loaded with equipment, towels, water and fruit; fast elevators that overlook the harbor; pedestrian bridge over the street to aquarium and harbor; a bar that looked pretty decent.
Service was outstanding from start to finish. Staff greeted me warmly upon arrival and helped me with my bags. I needed to dry my hoodie after it got soaked and they let’s guests use washer and dryer for free! I later lost my car key and staff went above and beyond to help me find it. I ended up finding it in the drier I used for my hoodie!
Conference facilities also worked out nicely for the training that I attended. I’m going to take advantage of future opportunities to go on work trips here!

Staff was lovely. The building was lovely and looked newly re-​modeled. The look was modern. Location was great. There is currently construction on the 2^nd floor. Rooms were clean, bed was comfortable. My reason for 2 stars is the room was very sterile and uncomfortable to me. We did book on Priceline so I cannot complain. The new furniture looked nice, but there was one uncomfortable little chair at the table and one fancy appearing chair. No counter space anywhere. Only one nightstand between the 2 double beds so each outer side of bed had no table. This room was good for sleeping only, but I guess that is what one does when they come to a hotel :-)

Nicely done renovation makes this hotel attractive again. They still need to work on the Charles Street back entrance which is dirty and worn.

I lived in Maryland all my life and when we were young, visiting the Inner Harbor was a treat. I thought it would be cool to stay at that hotel with the mirrored windows — heck, we always parked in their garage because the pedestrian bridge offered great access to the Inner Harbor.
Fast forward a number of years to 2016 and I had a couple of Hyatt Diamond Suite Upgrades to burn before they expire in February. I self-​parked in the garage, took the elevator down and walked into the lobby. Check-​in was very professional and before I knew it, I was wowed by the Superior Harbor View 2-​bedroom Suite. These rooms are on the corner edges of the building, rooms X45/​X47 and offer a spectacular view of the Inner Harbor. Both rooms offered a flatscreen (a 42-​inch in the bedroom and a 55-​inch in the living room), a bathroom, desk, coffeemaker, and fridge. Free Hyatt Wi-​Fi was also available.
I wasn’t able to enjoy all the amenities at the Hyatt. The fitness room is on the 4^th floor and there’s also a rooftop pool, open in season. The hotel restaurant, Bistro 300, is on the 3^rd floor. I only had their breakfast buffet. The service was very attentive and the food was pretty good.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at HR Inner Harbor — the price was right at $ 99 (plus parking and taxes coupled with a Diamond Suite Upgrade), but don’t expect this price the rest of the year! I stayed here on Jan 1, post holidays, hence the fab rate.

Great location. Bummer that the mini bar in my room wasn’t full. Called front desk to have refilled. They said it wouldn’t be refilled until the morning. What? Luckily, the bar stayed open a little late for me. Rooms clean and beds comfortable.
We ordered room service and my wife’s egg whites were undercooked and runny. My burger was ok. Pretty much equivalent to a Denny’s burger. Expect better from a Hyatt.
There was also mold in the grout in the shower. That is a new one on me. I stay in many Hyatt’s. I have never experienced a shower like that.

Excellent customer service– amazing place, with very cool elevators. We spent a fantastic weekend here, right in the heart of Baltimore, within walking distance to all of the good stuff:)

Awful value!
Stayed 3 nights last week on the 7^th floor. Hallway carpet was stained and literally coming apart at the seams. Room was extremely tired. It had no reading chair/​ottoman, bathroom sink took forever to drain and the «Ken and Barbie» coffee maker and supplies were a joke! This room and hallway are in dire need of a total renovation. Paying top rate of $ 279/​night for this room was completely inappropriate!
Based on the poor conditions noted above, the rate should have been heavily discounted or, better yet, the room should not have been available for booking at all.

Took the boyfriend on a getaway weekend and stayed in a Grand King View Room. Expensive, but worth it. The room was clean, spacious, and the view was to die for. The bed was absolutely amazing. Best night sleep in a while. Room service breakfast Sunday morning was on time and fresh. The orange juice tasted like it was just squeezed! Everyone was polite and helpful when checking in, out, and dealing with the valet. Great hotel! Expensive, but wonderful.

Negatives: stayed for 5 days and three mornings I had a cold shower
because they were fully booked — no excuse! Every time the room above flushed the toilet water would drip down from the light over our toilet. We reported it three times but it wasn’t fixed. The kicker is I woke up with a bed bug bite on my butt and another couple we were with had a bite on his leg. Will never stay there again. The construction of the hotel was of poor quality. Again the staff was very pleasant.

After perusing a few hotels in the Inner Harbor area for a quick weekend trip to the National Aquarium, I went with the Hyatt because they had a package that included passes and discounted parking in their attached garage. Convenience! I rejoiced, because the other hotels I looked at didn’t have obvious parking information and the costs just added up to too much when you factored in aquarium tickets.
Anyway – that’s a long-​winded introduction to say that choosing the Hyatt for our weekend was the best choice I could have made. The service was impeccable. I emailed regarding the aquarium tickets because we wanted to arrive early on Saturday, and André from the Front Office responded almost immediately. He was there when we arrived, shook my hand and wished my husband a happy birthday. When we got back from lunch and finally relaxed in our room, we were welcomed by a handwritten note and a special birthday treat. André is exactly the kind of person the hospitality industry needs; he goes above and beyond the call of duty, striving to make sure the guest has a good experience. We stay at Hyatt brand hotels when possible, and this is – by far – the best service we’ve had.
The hotel itself was very nice. The walls are a bit thin, so we heard someone’s baby, but that’s to be expected in hotels. Our view of the harbor was gorgeous. This Hyatt probably has some of the best views of all the hotels in the Inner Harbor. There are pedestrian bridges to easily cross to the Light Street Pavilion and into the Harbor complex. It’s walking distance to all of the Harbor attractions.
I kind of thought this trip to Baltimore would be a one-​off thing, but I’m already thinking about when we could go back. The Hyatt Regency will make an excellent home base for exploring other Baltimore attractions – and going back to the Aquarium on a day other than a summer Saturday!

Great people and love the new web check-​in capability, but they need to upgrade rugs on some of the floors, and my bathroom window blind needed replacement. Also, they need to keep gym temperature at 68 during the summer. There are always folks who wanted hot and others cold in the gym so lets just stick with average, and please make sure to have enough towels in the peak times.

The Hyatt Regency is THE place to stay when in Baltimore! The staff is professional – the rooms are clean – the service is impeccable — special thanks to Melvin for taking time out of his day to guide us with directions over the phone the last few miles when we needed help the most. We will never forget that «little extra».

Nice location, rather forgettable but nothing terrible about it. Perfect for conferences. Overpriced but everything in the Inner Harbor is. Check in and out was quick enough. Rooms were standard. Bathroom on the small side. I know I’m a snob, but I hate the Hyatt brand of toiletries — KenetMD. You don’t want to use body lotion and shampoo by a brand that sounds like a prescription while on vacation. If we didn’t have Hyatt points, I probably wouldn’t stay here again.

Love this hotel! Clean and modern, close to everything, friendly staff. Love the view of the harbor and really nice and romantic outdoor pool. And it’s affordable! Every dollar was worth it! We will def come back here!
We came here for forth of July and we got a great view of the firework right from our room!

This place is terrible. Charging ports on my room don’t work, phone died over night as a result I was late for an appointment. «High Speed» internet I paid $ 10 per day for us slower than a 36.6k modem. Customer service doesn’t care about you and the air conditioning is a joke, a fan would keep me cooler. Stay anywhere else, think I would have been better off at Motel 6.

Very pleased with this hotel although my stay started off with a slight plumbing disaster in my room which required a move. However, the staff was very apologetic and eager to please. The hotel overall is very nice and clean. The workout facility is top notch. I have to admit it is one of the best hotel workout areas I have ever seen. The rooms themselves are nice. Good bed and clean bathrooms. That truly matters. Decent area attractions are easily accessible which is a plus. All in all, I will keep them in mind for my next inner harbor visit.

I’ll keep this brief – I don’t often give five stars, but the hotel staff treated us very well and were extremely helpful, the rooms were lovely and bright, and breakfast at Bistro 300 was excellent.
The beds were very comfortable – just enough support as well as cushioning.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Hyatt. I just stayed here and from booking to checking out the experience was ubiquitously warm, positive, and welcoming.
Check in was easy and the gentleman at the desk made sure to ask how my trip in was, could he help me plan anything, would I like to speak with the concierge, etc. Great service and made me feel at home.
On my walk to the room I passed two flavors of infused water and fresh baked chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies, a great touch.
The décor is modern, open, and warm. The room was clean, neat, and very comfortable. Large flat screen TV, adequate size fridge, single serve coffee maker. There are plenty of outlets scattered around the room and a nice desk space if you’re there to work.
The concierge helped me look for a couple of local services and even took my cell number and spent 20 minutes looking for 2 options for me. Wonderful service.
The only reason I wouldn’t come right to the Hyatt the next time I need a hotel in Baltimore is because of the plethora of upper-​end hotels all in the same area.

Nestled along the inner harbor is a gleaming mirrored building that stands amidst the darkened buildings like the Emerald City of Oz. It towers over the waterfront as a beckoning oasis and as you enter it almost seems as if you are being taken away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
The rooms have been tastefully re-​done. Nothing truly wow-​ing or special, however they do feature the very comfortable grand bed and the rooms are nicely sized so that it doesn’t feel claustrophobic. No matter what the view, whether the harbor or the city, they are all comfortable so that you aren’t looking into the awkward naked person in the bathroom over in the building next door.
Its location is definitely a highlight and it is convenient to many of the cities attractions. Whether it is the nearby inner harbor that is connected by a skybridge, the stadiums, or perhaps the downtown core. It is all a short walk away. Yet, if you do park a car, valet or self parking are available. If you’re into saving a few bucks, self-​parking is easy and there is another entrance off S. Charles street, although there is a separate garage elevator that means a few extra minutes.
Staff are pleasant and helpful. I asked for tips and directions on several occasions and they were really personable and nice.
Over all, it is what I would look for in a hotel and they offered a great choice that I would definitely use for my next visit to Baltimore.

Great location, unremarkable service.
Except for the front desk staff, who were extraordinarily helpful, this hotel has a mediocre staff and mediocre food, and worse banquet catering. Mainly, it was a staff issue.
The Good:
it’s a great location. A bridge will take you over to the waterfront Inner Harbor area and it’s a half mile walk to beautiful Camden Yards. And a short half mile at that, you’ll spend more time mounting the ramp to the upper decks than you will walking to the park.
Parking is next to the hotel – swing in from Light Street on the right (beware of the MBT buses that peel off and cut you off as you try to turn in, get into the right lane immediately. Or you’ll have to go around the block.) It’s twenty a day self park and not difficult to maneuver.
The hotel public areas are nice looking. The architecture is 80’s – glass and steel and concrete, with those glass pod elevators everyone was so hyped about thirty years ago. OOoo! Look! We can see down into the atrium! Yep, the Eighties were all about that.
The rooms are unremarkable and not that big, but adequate. The décor is a paean to Bland (plain abstract pictures, beige and white on beige décor). The bedding is hypoallergenic and covered with dust-​mite-​excluding polyester covers. These tightly woven covers prevent dust mite infestation and are a brilliant touch. Only – the bedding had feathers (the pillows) and those are allergic beyond belief. But the staff did have non-​allergenic pillows available. The sheets are a bit slick because they are not cotton but a blend.
No minibar. There WAS a minibar but it was empty. On top was one of those one cup brewers for coffee or tea and Starbucks Verona and decaf Verona pods. Lipton tea and the usual skimpy one sugar, one pink packet and one tiny creamer. Paper cups. No bottled water.
They also have a number of toiletries you might have forgotten available at not charge… but you have to ask. What’s laid on in the room is basic; toothpaste, lotion, shampoo, a bar of soap. Nice soap.
The bathroom is a bit small and the vanity shelf is only as wide as a stick of gum – so it’s hard to put out your dopp kit AND a makeup bag, if there are two of you. And only one sink. The shower had one of the best shower heads I’ve used, loved it – you swivel the head inside a ring and it goes from rain water to pulse to stream to flat jet. Likey!
The Bad:
The beds are just ok, not great. I had a double, not a king, but it was tolerable. Some other of my party felt the bed wasn’t comfy. Maybe not all the beds were updated.
The room wasn’t serviced. I was at early events, then late afternoon needed to rest up, shower, and dress for evening festivities. Room not done up, no new towels and the staff beating on the door during nap time. If you can’t get to a room before 4:30pm, don’t knock on my door. So no clean towels or anything for the entire stay. I was too annoyed to go chase down housekeeping and get them to do up the room. They had from 7am onward so what’s the hold-​up?
The rooms are noisy – older building, thin walls. There is a white noise generator in the room to help you with this issue but they don’t work on thumps. Just traffic noises and voices.
The catering: wow. Our entire table was neglected. No water, no wine, no coffee. The entire evening. And what was funny was we were by the wait station, so it’s not like they didn’t see us. And one of us specified NO NUTS and every dish had… NUTS. THe entire table was laden with nuts and even though a nut-​free option was ordered, they didn’t come by with the no-​nuts to our table (because we were apparently invisible the entire evening.) When the dessert of NUTS showed up, I complained and was offered a vegan cake (which I was suspicious about, as vegan food features a lot of… NUTS) and a tiny tiny fruit cup, the size of a baby food serving. Two pieces of melon and a blackberry. So that’s what my dinner consisted of, along with one piece of dried out bread – as they’d cut it and put it out hours before.
The steak we were offered was so tough it couldn’t be cut by the plain (not steak) knife. Was supposedly «filet» but it was tough, overdone, and soaked in a salty brine. The fish was dried out. The asparagus was completely raw, in the cheating method of caterers these days, who do not blanch vegetables, but coat raw ones with butter to prevent overcooking. By not cooking at all. I hate that – happens all the time with haricot beans as well. It’s raw. Gross when buttered.
The breakfast was the usual greasy eggs, pastries, no toast, fruit showed up sometimes, and no plain non-​sugared bread, sausages and very sorry bacon. There was the usual sugared and sugar free yogurt. If you want plain, that’s for European holidays. Americans want sweets.
Summary: pretty much what you find in an American «five star» hotel these days unless you are lucky.

I spent Tuesday and Wednesday nights this week here for a client meeting. I don’t know how much the room cost. The client reserved a block and charges were direct billed, so I can’ speak to overall value.
Here’s a quick net of the good and the bad:
Pros
— Excellent location — a 20– to 30-​minute ride to/​from the airport, in the middle of the central business district, adjacent to quaint Federal Hill, on the water at the Inner Harbor and a short walk to the much cooler Harbor East neighborhood.
— A very nice staff.
— Hypoallergenic, thrice-​cleaned Pure rooms with HEPA filter, white noise machine and fragrance-​free toiletries.
— Touch card entry. No need to insert or swipe a card key. A timesaver.
— Very quiet. Every guest I saw was a business traveler. No bachelorette parties, frat boys or screaming kids.
— Comfortable beds with decent linens.
Cons
— The food. Absolutely horrible. For that matter, I have never had a good meal at any Hyatt. Eat elsewhere.
— No bottled water in fitness center. And every time I went (3X) there were no towels. In addition, while it’s nice that they put out a basket of apples, oranges and bananas, they should swap them out every week or so. There was rotten fruit (see my photo).
— The bathroom had insufficient vanity space, just one hook and no towel rack. I had to put a clean towel on the toilet to avoid walking across a tile sopping wet to get one.
— Ironically, found a silver dollar sized dust bunny on the desk in my Pure room. Oops.
— They have obviously tried to update the 80s architecture and décor, e.g., the water feature in the third floor lounge that reminded me of the one in Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, NJ when I was a kid.
I wouldn’t object if I had to stay here again, but nothing I experienced fostered brand loyalty or would cause me to switch from the Marriott program.

My company booked my trip and Hyatt charged ME! This is a HUGE issue for me, so I am not a happy customer.
