Holabird Tire & Auto Service

I have relocated twice in the past year. Each time, I’m concerned about finding an auto repair shop that I can afford and trust. This was my find of the year. The staff is amazing, they never try to gouge you or take advantage of what you may or may not know about cars, and they’re affordable. I recommend this place to everyone that mentions auto repair work.

SOOO– Driving from Florida to New Hampshire –just broke down in Baltimore :(Stuck here for a few hours but thankfully we have a guardian angel watching over.) We found a wonderful mechanic shop who is going above and beyond with customer service. This is a very expensive job and their price is very fair. So honest, caring and genuine. Even the bathroom is pleasent! Bagels, coffee AND waffles too. It’s St. Patty’s day and there’s no attitude whatsoever about having this big random job of replacing our converter out of the blue. Thank you Holabird Tire & Auto Service! If you are in Baltimore and need a mechanic– these are your guys!

I had a leak in my rear driver side tire, so I brought my car in to get that checked out. I was there a total of about 15 minutes (tops), they repaired my tire and the price was fair. I will be going back should I have the need again.

I’ve been a customer of Holabird Tire and Auto for probably 15 years now, and they are the best auto service I’ve ever done business. They are reliable, honest, knowledgeable, and efficient. If you don’t need something, they won’t sell it to you. Today I suspected my ignition switch was beginning to fail when I took my car in for an oil change. They checked it out and reported no problem with ignition. I know nothing about cars or car maintenance, so a maintenance shop – with less integrity – may have replaced the switch anyway. That’s not Holabird. It means a lot to me to have a repair shop I can trust. Thanks Holabird and Scott!

Driving home last night around 11pm my oil light came on. Took it to holabird tire and auto at 8am they had it diagnosed and estimated by 830. I called around to other in the area and they had the best price and got me in and done.

The old owner was great, and this used to be a rare local car shop with great customer service. The new owner clearly THINKS he is great, but he has nothing to back up this opinion of himself. Note that there is already another recent and very clear one-​star rating here, but it is for some reason not a «recommended review.» I am not sure how Unilocal determined this, as the other one-​star review appears fair and well-​written, and it is completely in line with my recent experience.
The new owner of Holabird is in the process of taking over this business. He repeatedly told me my tires were balanced just fine and said I needed four new brake pads and a rotor resurfacing. I cannot confirm whether or not it was true that I needed these, but I CAN confirm that my car was still shaking significantly at 55−65mph and my breaks were still squeaking after three visits and several hundred dollars. Even though I had just bought new tires here and should have received competent balancing for free, I finally took my car elsewhere, where an honest mechanic was able to quickly determine that my tires were NOT properly balanced and my brake fluid was simply low. Finally, no more shaking and vibrating on the highways, and no more squeaking — NO thanks to Holabird. In addition to being disrespectful and incompetent, the new owner sits around yacking on the phone, making personal calls and cursing in front of customers in the waiting area.

So. I drive a hybird, which means that I usually pay anywhere from $ 50 – 75 for my oil changes. I saw a coupon in the Baltimore City Paper for Holabird, which offered an oil change for just $ 20. I called to make sure this would apply to my hybrid, and much to my surprise, they said yes.
I asked about making an appointment, and they said they just take walk-​ins. This was fine with me.
Then I made the mistake of going in the Friday before Easter at 3p. Of course, they were busy. The very nice man behind the counter said he thought it would take an hour. I said fine, I’ll wait. They have a TV in the lounge, and no one else was waiting, so he gave me the remote to watch anything I wanted. My only complaint is their selection of magazines leaves something to be desired, but hey! Everyone has smartphones these days. I had no problem just goofing on facebook and dealing with work emails.
After an hour, I noticed that they still hadn’t taken my car back. I went up to the clerk and asked what was up, and he profusely apologized that they hadn’t gotten to my car yet. I was disappointed that I’d have to bring it back, but since the coupon was about to expire, he said if I came back, he’d still honor it. So, while I was a little unhappy that he didn’t tell me it would take longer tha he originally said, I WAS happy that he’d still honor the discount.
I went back today, and they got my oil change done in. no joke.15 minutes! I saved so much on the oil change, I was able to then take my car for a wash, and still walk away with pocket change. Can’t beat that. :)

My car stopped in Canton and had to be towed somewhere for battery and alternator. My AAA agent recommended Holabird Tire (I had no idea where it was but it is only 5 min drive from Canton) so I sent out car over there and I am very pleased with their service. They finished the work by next day so I was able to pick up my car by 5PM and the service charge was very reasonable. I am glad to find a reliable auto service place near my house and highly recommend it.

Found a screw stuck in my tire. Took my car to a national brand tire store where, instead of patching the tire, a couple of hacks completely destroyed the darn thing. Subsequently called about ten places all of whom either didn’t carry my brand of tire or couldn’t get it for a week.
Enter Scott at Holabird. He also couldn’t get the tire for a week, but instead of leaving it at that, he suggested a way for me to get the tire quicker! He actually told me I should buy the tire FROM SOMEONE ELSE and have it shipped direct to Holabird for installation.
Fast forward two days: Tire is on, I’m super happy, and this experience will make me think of Holabird first for my future car-​fixing needs.
