Herb & Soul Express

The hub and I came here thanks to a Living Social deal. It is very close to us but we wouldn’t have known about it otherwise. I am so glad we were made aware of it because it is a hidden gem. The food is fresh and hearty. The atmosphere is clean and has old-​school games to play as you wait for your food. In addition to a menu of great food, they have daily specials. I got the flounder sandwich that was topped with crab imperial, yum! My hub go a chicken cheesesteak which was big and delish. We shared fish tacos which were the best I have tasted. All of the food is made in front of you and was made with love. We came because of the deal but we will be back because of the wonderful food, service and atmosphere.

Glad to have recently discovered another neighborhood lunch spot. I ordered a shrimp po boy, which was sizeable and tasty. Support Lauraville local business!

Great name and good food. I tried this place out because I had a Living Social special and my friend lives in the neighborhood.
The space is small with a couple of tables but they do have games on the tables for customers to play while waiting for food. It was a hot day and they didn’t have a good AC system so inside was hot.
As for the food, my friend had the BLT and chips while I had the 2 piece fried fish with greens. The greens are vegan and were pickled. They were okay. My friend enjoyed her BLT and I liked my fish.
This is a good new restaurant for the neighborhood.

We have been meaning to try this place for months now, but sadly it always seems to be Sunday or Monday when I think of it — they days they are closed. We finally tried it today and the food was fantastic! I had a portabella polenta salad that was on the specials menu and was perfection. The plantains were amazing and came with a delicious herb sauce. Chicken and waffles also got a big thumbs up. Will definitely be making this a regular dinner stop — can’t wait to try the rest of the menu and lots of great vegetarian options! Only gripe (and it is TINY) is that the menu is really hard to read — just an odd layout. A cheap fiverr designer I am sure could clean it right up :)

When I saw the LivingSocial deal for Herb & Soul Express, I had the side eye based upon my previous experiences with the restaurant itself (
) but It was a half off deal plus there was a weekend %age off special with LS on top of me having a credit on my LS account so sure why not?
They made the best of the space in my opinion so although it’s just small enough to seem like a sub shop, they have it set up to look like more of a «quick bite’ place and I commend them for that. They even had boxes of games and a couple copies of UB for anyone who decided to stay.
I looked over the menu and here’s my final evaluation of the the place with regards to #TeamVeg options. Although Herb & Soul tries to market itself and menu as veg friendly, the execution of such never really works out. The only thing that remains consistent is the overpricing of those menu items that are veg friendly.
I ordered the crispy eggplant Po-​Boy and «The One with Veggies.» As you can see from my photos, all I got for the $ 8.50 sandwich was two thin slices of eggplant chopped in half. I would have expected this sandwich to be at least $ 2 less. For «The One» I received a sandwich with four slices of Portabello mushrooms and an extreme amount of onions. The sandwich came together okay but again, not necessarily what I’d expect for $ 7.
I wouldn’t swear off Herb & Soul Express completely just as I wouldn’t do the restaurant but rest assure the next time I do visit, I will have another half off voucher with me so I will feel like I’ve gotten more value for my money.

Fish po’boy was great– that slaw is fantastic. So glad to have delicious delivery food. Great fries, too.

Many people had told me about this new place in my community and now that I have been there I wish they hadn’t.
The fries… OMG are amazing. They are hand cut and seasoned with their own special blend.
I also had the shrimp Po’ Boy. I can’t wait to sample more on this menu.

A fantastic recent addition to the neighborhood. Delivery of gourmet soul food, at completely reasonable prices? Yes, please. I can vouch, in particular, for the lobster mac egg roll, the berry cheesecake egg roll, and the roast beef sandwich (au jus, I think). The delivery is quick, too.

We loved the Parkville location since 2011 & this is even closer to our house! I am elated! We ordered delivery and the quality was as great as the full location and delivery was on time. This is such a great addition to he neighborhood and I could not be happier. Please try, you won’t be disappointed.

Ordered delivery to my job, and they were pretty good. My only gripe is that my Shrimp Po’Boy only had about 5 shrimp (granted fresh and seasoned and cooked well) on top of a large bed of slaw and lettuce. The sandwich would’ve been better had there been enough meat. Their handout fries were delicious, too. Delivery doesn’t take long, and service was really pleasant all around. I’ll order again, but I’ll get something else because I can’t see myself spending that much on a po’boy with 5 shrimp.

Everything has cheese in it and/​or is deep fried! I will continue to support because I believe in them. Hoping for to see some healthier choices pop up as they establish themselves! I had the pleasure of eating at the sit down spot and thoroughly enjoyed it. Either way, my catfish poboy was satisfying, blueberry lemonade was strong and sweet, perfect for diluting, and the huge chocolate chip cookie was crave worthy. I will continue to support places I believe in.

I am just a huge fan of small businesses that just GET IT. The folks over at Herb and Soul GET IT. I am a fan of the Towson spot and now, consider me a fan of this location. This is definitely not your run of the mill Baltimore carry out. I love the fact that just about everything on the menu is different than any other place you’d go for carry out in Baltimore. Rabbit, Elk, Crispy Eggplant, Homemade Biscuits, Fry Bread Tacos, Po’ Boys? Are you kidding me!!!
Though this location isn’t as fancy as there Towson location the food is impressive. I am no arm-​chair food critic, I just know what I like.
Whenever I visit Herb & Soul, I always get two things… BISCUITS (calling them just biscuits doesn’t do them any justice… they are freak’n AWESOME!) and the greens (which are flavorful, full bodied, not too salty, not oily, just right). I ordered the rabbit po’boy as well. I had never had rabbit before and the guy told me the best way he could describe it would be a mix between Turkey and Chicken. He was pretty spot on. The bread fit the sandwich perfectly. Right balance of flavors on the sandwich. creamy slaw, zesty spread, fresh greens and the bbq sauce on top… oh my!
As someone who went to the first spot you guys established, I love seeing you take off while delivering a quality product and customer service! Nice job guys, keep it up!

So glad to have a spot in my neighborhood for take out that is really worth it! We’ve been to the main location before (chicken & waffles!) and were eager to try out the express location. We ordered to pick up and the food was ready in 30 minutes, just like they said.
I finally got to try the fry bread tacos (with beef), they are delicious, filling, and very fresh tasting. A little messy but worth it. The Herb & Soul roll was filled with greens and had a tasty slightly sweet dipping sauce, and the Liberian Greens were well cooked without being mushy. My boyfriend got a sub with lamb meatballs, it was a huge serving on a quality sub roll. The only «negative» things I’d say are that the fries with the sub (real fresh ones!) were a not crisp, but that happens with any take out food, and that the sub could have used a little more sauce, like maybe a garlic mayo or something similar. I forgot to order dessert but that’s ok, I’ll just have to order from them again!
One note: it would be great to have more detailed descriptions of some of the dishes on their printed menu and Grubhub. I didn’t know the tacos had a choice of filling (beef, chicken or veggie) but they called to check with me, and it would be good to know what items are vegetarian.

My food hasn’t even been delivered yet– and I just cried… real, grown woman, tears… because I am SO EXCITED that H&S is in my lil ol’ neighborhood. I’ve heard so many amazing tales of delicious from the Parkville location, but haven’t had the chance to make reservations and get over to enjoy all the tasty southern delicacies. And now this– thank you universe. Counting down the seconds till I drift away into a land of top notch deliveryahhhhhh… I’ll be back with the actual food review.
UPDATE: I wasn’t ready. Y’all. I. WAS. NOT. READY. This place is AMAZINGGGGG, and EVERYTHING the countless reviews say is 100% true. This place is exceptional. I hate to call it delivery because its in a class of its own. Here’s the breakdown:
Delivery: Arrived in half the estimated time (30 mins from order to my front door). Ordered online, no issues at all.
Chicken Cheesesteak: Moist, tender large chunks of chicken. I skipped the kale, and was pleased to see yummy spring greens instead of boring lettuce. It’s CLEAR that high quality ingredients are prized here. Crispy, slightly sweet fresh bun, and a terrific spicy sweet BBQ sauce. Like absolutely stellar.
Crab Mac & Cheese Spring Rolls: Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly. Chunks of Old Bay kissed blue crab, cheesey noodles, all in a crispy fried wonton rolls. 2 large pieces per order. Fantastic value.
Blackberry Cheesecake Roll: This is just wonderful. I was stuffed, and I still made room for this fruity creamy concoction in a crispy spring roll shell– lightly dusted with powdered sugar. The PRIDE in this dish, could be tasted with every bite. Comes with a gourmet and flavorful maple sauce, that complemented the dessert nicely.
It’s rare that places live up to their hype. And in their first two weeks of opening in Hamilton– Herb & Soul is everything I dreamed of, and more. My tears were warranted, I’m shutting down my home kitchen and its time to invest in tredmill– cause I’m a customer for life. Thank you, Herb & Soul. Thank you!

We have ordered food from H&S twice so far. The H&S Philly is awesome, high-​class cheesesteak with some spicy zip and surprise… kale! The meatball sub was great, herby and flavorful. The shrimp Po boy is delicious… fried but not greasy. The sub rolls they use are perfect — soft but they don’t fall apart. I thought the side of kale salad I had was fine. I’ve had better but I have had much worse! They have Boylan soda, which I love. Great addition to the neighborhood and staff is friendly and quick. No complaints! Looking forward to trying the chicken and waffles.

Very very good pizzas! I was extremely impressed with those. This will most likely become my go to pizza delivery spot.
I’m very familiar with the fry bread tacos from their full service location. They are always terrific, especially the lamb! Don’t miss these.
My main complaint is that they put raw kale on EVERYTHING, and it’s not always announced on the menu. Raw kale sucks. Just about any other type of green would be better. Raw kale really overpowers sandwiches and tacos. Please, please please switch to a different green…
I’m also missing those good burgers (lamb and beef) that they have at the other restaurant, but I guess I can’t have everything.

Heaven only knows Northeast Baltimore needs other forms of takeout beyond wings, pizza and lo mein. So we were thrilled to discover this relatively new spot on Grub Hub offering an intriguing menu that includes rabbit po boys, Jamaican greens and herb biscuits.
The chicken cheese steak was moist and came with hand-​cut crispy fries. The fries were terrific — flavorful and perfectly cooked in fresh oil.
Likewise, the biscuits were flaky and flavorful.
A kale salad, on the other hand, was tough. I hope the cooks consider ribbing the kale in the future, and even blanching the leaves.
