This is why I love Unilocal!I was acorss the street at the Walters Musuem, and needed to get a quick bite. Unilocal guided me here — and I ordered the shrimp and chicken sub. It was so good. And, yes, the lady who owns/runs the place is a real sweetie! If I lived nearby this would be a regular place.

Love eating here! The Philly Cheese Chicken sandwich is delish. The owner is a sweetie. She makes every order herself! On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, there will be a get together sponsored by the Historic Charles Street Association to help her and other local businesses affected by Monday’s devastation. I hope she stays and rebuilds her business as I hope the rest of this city can work together to heal, rebuild and resolve to do better.

Located across the street from the Walters entrance, this is a favorite lunch location for locals and museum-goers alike. Despite its small and unassuming exterior, there are always a diverse crowd of folk wandering in and out. There are maybe two places to sit inside, so it’s mostly a take-out joint, but there are tables outside in nice weather, plus parks with benches nearby. This is not the destination for you if you’re looking for healthy food or salads. It is subs, sandwiches, fries. There are various daily specials and combos. Miss Jean is the proprietor and she runs the place herself. She makes a decent chicken teriyaki, served with a side of kimchi-esque pickled cucumbers and cabbage. Cheese steaks are also pretty good, although as a native Philadelphian, they are not authentic. Fries are great, and I’m not a huge fry person. I think you have to order fries with your sandwich; they don’t come with it. Bottled and fountain soda(coke products!) both sold there. Fountain soda is large, and costs $ 1.35 when purchased with food. I love me a good fountain soda! There seem to be a lot of regular customers, and neighborhood people frequenting there, including the younger set, students, and working people on lunch breaks, so that mix is always a good mark of quality. Great place for a quick lunch!

Stopped by this place in front of walter museum when I was walking past this area. It’s a small hole in the wall place like others have mentioned but it’s not grimy or disgusting like some other small eateries. It’s clean, has bright colors, and was busy on a Thursday morning. The place is obviously very popular from what I could tell. I ordered the advertised steak and shrimp sub,($ 13) which was humungous. It’s basically a cheesesteak with 4 pieces of shrimp on top. I don’t know if I would get this again. It’s pretty pricey and the shrimp wasn’t that great in my opinion. The cheesesteak part was awesome though on a toasted roll. I think the other options on the menu are a better deal and that’s what most of the patrons seemed to be getting. Overall, this is one of the better small sandwich stops in the area and I’d stop by if I was craving a sub.

I love love love the subs and especially the fries!!! her fries are the perfect one I have ever had. It is not too oily, crispy but also you can feel the potato inside. the seasoning makes it even better. She is so kind, and I am definitely going there again.

The Gallery Grill is a hole in the wall joint run by Miss Jean. She does it all, cashier, cook, and anything else, she is the only one there. The place is very divey, with a few sparse seats in the area to sit and eat at. The food is always good and reasonably priced. Bottled drinks are a bit pricey, at a few bucks a pop, but I think fountain sodas are only a dollar each. I always get the cheesesteak and it’s definitely one of the better ones in the area. The meat is marinated and the bun toasted on the grill, so it soaks up those flavors. Loaded with meat, lettuce, tomato, hots and fried(or non) onions, it’s definitely good. Miss jean seals it up by placing not only a slice of american cheese on top, but shredded cheese as well. My insides hurt from the goodness right now as I finish mine off. Definitely a great little takeout place in the area. Things to note: Cards are accepted, $ 5 minimum. No public bathroom(Grandfathered in) Miss Jean’s accent can be tough at times, but she’s a real sweet woman.

(04/15/2013) Nice little carryout across from the Walthers Art Museum. Had a special of the day, a Chicken Salad Melt(and bag of chips) for $ 6.89. It wasn’t chicken salad like you think(not complaining), but more like chopped and shredded chicken meat like you’d find in a chicken cheesesteak. Lump of chicken was griddle-crisped into a «patty» and topped with a slice AND shredded cheese and served on wheat toast(not the promised croissant) slathered with mayo and topped with shredded lettuce and tomato. Service is friendly and fast, Miss Jean is the only server/cook/cashier there, but is a whirlwind. There’s limited seating in the tiny space(maybe 5 – 6 seats along the window and crammed along the counter) and there’s no bathroom(must have been grandfathered in somehow before certain City codes), so carryout might be the best option.

If you are in Mt V., the art museum or Peabody and want quick eats for little money then Gallery Grill may fit the bill. Try the Steak Shrimp Sub. It’s surf and turf on a roll for cryin’ out loud. How can you beat it? Fast, Friendly, Fantastic!

The two brothers that run the Gallery Café are super friendly and make great sandwiches, wraps, and the like. Right across from the Walters Art Gallery, and open only from Mon-Sat., this is my spot for a great Turkey Reuben, lime and pepper potato chips, or a breakfast egg, ham, and cheese sandwich. Yum. Everything is pretty much under $ 5, and the guys always have the TV on for sports and I heard there is going to be Lotto and Keno in that tiny shop(per multiple requests from the residents at the nearby retirement community)! Can’t beat this place for the great service, tasty food, and convenience!
