Cox did a total gutting then build of a main bathroom in my home. This would be the first extensive renovation for the room since built over 50-​years ago.
Others that had gone through renovations warned me to expect the outcome to differ from my ideal expectation, however my experience was the opposite — my finished bath is beyond what I imagined could be done with a room of it’s size.
I also had the husband and wife-​carpenter team do my room and my very good painter commented on how smooth the walls are and the painted results are impressive.
A glass shower wall looks like the finest design you’d see in any Architectural Digest. The room functions so well it’s actually life changing in that it’s an event to get up early in the morning and prepare for the day.
A perfect 8×4 subway tiled shower wall and 12×24 tiled floor with wood seamless base boards are part of the design and workmanship that to me is the measure of how good a contractor.
I give much of the credit to the architectural drawings Cox drew up and thus the reason that even the smallest details are spot on.

Cox Kitchens was professional and courteous with excellent customer service skills while we were going through the purchasing process for our new kitchen. We were willing to spend 15% of our total home value in order to get the kitchen of our dreams, and Cox worked with us to get the budget right. We gutted the kitchen ourselves, put new floors in, designed the concept, bought the appliances, and managed the countertop ordering process to remain within budget. We were presented with a solid hand drawn plan that realized our vision for the kitchen, and we were excited to get started.
Unfortunately, as soon as the first check was paid (Cox asks you to pay in 3 installments) we started having issues. The timeline for cabinet delivery was shifted back a week, we were told subcontractors, a local couple, would be installing the cabinets on behalf of Cox. When the cabinets arrived they were not the cabinets I saw in the showroom. I was anxious to get my kitchen started and they were still beautiful, so I ignored that they weren’t what I believed they were going to be and paid the second installment (which was now 80% of the total cabinet costs). The base cabinets were put in within a couple of weeks, fast enough for the countertops to be installed on time and without delay.
Here is where the real problems begin:
As soon as the subcontractors started to hang the wall cabinets, it was discovered the cabinets the owner measured and purchased were incorrect. The owner of Cox Kitchens came by and apologized, told us it would be «really hard to fix» due to the slope of the ceiling, and told us he would draw up a new plan and give us options to fix the wall cabinets so we could still get what we wanted. Please note: This is why we purchased custom cabinets… because of the slope of our kitchen ceiling in our historic 100 year old home. We were told through the purchasing process «not to worry» about the ceiling and that it «wasn’t a big deal because they deal with this all of the time». When the owner left that day, everything went downhill. We never received a new drawing. We had trouble getting in touch with the owner after this. The new cabinets were ordered and arrived within three weeks. We did not have more than one option to choose from. The wall cabinets were no longer «built in» to the ceiling as the original drawing showed. We now have wall cabinets that sit low on the ceiling but some of the crown molding touches the ceiling and some of it does not. We were extremely disappointed in the final product. The owner came by when we were not home to review the kitchen once the wall cabinets were installed, «okayed» the project without us present to review our issues with him, then proceeded to say the project was done and asked for final payment. When we raised our concerns, he refused to listen and said that we approved them.
We stated our concerns in multiple emails as well as in person asking Cox kitchens to fix the mistakes before final payment (which is very little compared to what we have paid them). We are now stuck with crooked crown molding that doesn’t match throughout the kitchen, loose knobs with large holes to inset the screws (which they say we need to fix on our own), a few crooked knobs, and drywall screws haphazardly drilled in to our new cabinets in obvious places. I’ve never seen anything like it.
If you read their only other review online, it states Cox demanded final payment and then never showed up to fix their mistakes. I’m so disappointed. And I’m upset that I can’t give Cox an awesome review. I really wanted to. We spent so much money, time and effort on this kitchen and we are not happy with the end result.
UPDATE: I appreciate Martin’s willingness to update our reviews and display his concerns that we are unhappy. I wish they would do the same in person. I didn’t deal with Martin in real life, unfortunately. I wish I had! Maybe Martin can call us and resolve these issues instead of Mr. Gibbs. We are in desperate need of kindness from Cox Kitchens. It would be a welcome change.
