Charm City Food Tours

My husband and I took this tour about a month ago, and loved every minute of it. We just moved to the area, and someone gave us this tour as a wedding present. It was a great way to get to know the area and discover some restaurants we probably wouldn’t have ventured to on our own!
Our tour guide was very friendly, and clearly very passionate about Baltimore. Because his family has been in Baltimore for generations, he was able to weave in some really interesting personal anecdotes about the neighboorhoods and how they’ve changed throughout the course of his lifetime.
Overall, we enjoyed mostly all of the food selections and actually ended up discovering one of our favorite spots in Fells. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a gift or just a fun weekend activity!

My mom bought a gift certificate for Charm City Food Tours for my fiancé last Christmas. We both love to eat local and try new places in Baltimore. We chose Mt. Vernon as we don’t often go out in that area. Every stop we made was to a place we had been wanting to try! It was perfect. AJ was an excellent guide — knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic, and easy going. We will likely use them to help us set up an itinerary for our honeymoon in Florence, Italy as well!

We are literally just off the bus. We booked through our cruise. We’ve done many tours. Our guide, Colleen was exceptionally informative. Out first stop was for steak tacos. They were delicious and well prepared. Unexpected. We expected more local foods. Our 2^nd stop was for BBQ and we had fries with a quarter of a BBQ beef sandwich. Just fast food a step above Arby’s and nothing i would consider Foodie. Our next place was average crabcakes sliders. I took off the bread but was really disappointed in the quality. And the final stop was for deep fried pbj sandwiches. Overloaded sweet. More lowbrow county fair fare. I was disappointed in the food. I have done many food tours and the food missed the mark. Only because the guide was good did I give an extra star.

Just finished our tour. Andrew was our guide and we could not be happier. We walked to various restaurants in federal Hill. Andrew was very knowledgeable and a wonderful host. His enthusiasm for Baltimore was refreshing. He’s a fine ambassador for the city. We are already planning a Fells point and Little Italy food tour!

Review of Fell’s Point tour:
I’ve done a handful of food tours over the years and the Fells Point tour ranked up with the best of them. I was really impressed with the selection of places that our guide James took us to, and there was a lot of range in the food and atmospheres. And yes, there was PLENTY of food to go around. And don’t worry, there will be crab.
Our guide also did a great job taking us around and telling us about the history of the Fell’s Point district, shows us some cool «secret» spots along the way. You could tell he was enthusiastic about the area.
The vegetarian member of our party was also very satisfied with the replacement dishes. And our other friend was able to bring her newborn and always had a place to put her stroller. Overall everything went smoothly and great times were had.

What a wonderful time we had during our Charm City Food Tour, our guides AJ and James (?) we very well-​versed in local history and the dining selections were a perfect representation of the local cuisine — from Eastern European to Tapas to Baltimore classics — we loved it all. The walking history of Fell’s Point was fun too. There is so much to learn about Baltimore, the guides gave us so much history, but there is much more to Baltimore than can be learned in a few short hours. We had a group of about 30 with many special dietary considerations and they were all accommodated without error. After the tour we tried a couple of other places that were recommended by our guides. Everyone in our group would definitely recommend Charm City Food Tours for a unique culinary/​historic evening. We especially loved the fresh Berger’s cookies at the end — several of us had to take some of those home.

We did the Fells Point Food Tour. Had a ball! My husband and I had never been to Fells Point. It was indeed a treat as we are both Foodies and love to explore new territory. The people in our group were from all over — NC, San Francisco, Calgary. Our guide AJ was very knowledgeable and personable. The choices of restuarants, which I cannot remember the names, were fantastic.
We will definitely return!

Went on the Fells Point food tour. Interesting out of the way places u might not have gone to otherwise. We has a good taste of Baltimore foods and our guide was great! It would be great to see how some of these things r made. Just a thought.

First off, we had repeated issues scheduling the tour. It took us over 1.5 years to finally schedule it! We were new to Baltimore when we received the gift certificate, but by the time we were on the tour we were locals!
We were first told the date we wanted was open but the tour group was small. We told them we would like to go despite this, and received no response! We wrote them again to confirm the week before and they told us they were no longer offering it. This happened twice, 8 months apart. Disappointing.
We chose the Federal Hill tour. The tour guide Michael was a very knowledgeable, quirky, and socially awkward. He knew a lot of tidbits about Fed Hill which was great, but also was awkward enough to make things somewhat uncomfortable.
The food stops were hit or miss. The first stop at Nicks in Cross Street was all fried food (mini fried crab cakes, calamari, and french fries) which was not special. The second stop was Porters where the meatloaf was pretty bland and the cheese sandwiches were sweet, tasty, and superb. Our next stop was Pubdog where each person received half a beer and 6 of us shared a single personal pizza. Both selections were quite tasty though TINY! The last stop was Reggies where our tour guide got pretty tipsy off of generous wine pours, overbearingly dominated the conversation, and people started leaving as early as was socially acceptable.
Overall I was unimpressed by the food selections of this tour (but my perspective is of a local, not a visitor). I think the venue selections were fine but sushi or fish from Nicks would have been much more appropriate and a decent pit beef in Baltimore would have been a good choice. I also didn’t love the tour guide.
I overall would not recommend this tour.

I live in Baltimore and decided to spend the afternoon doing the Little Italy food tour. Fun way to explore Baltimore and try some new restaurants. Good for visitors, locals, or for entertaining friends/​family who come to visit.

We went on the Fell’s Point tour with guide Mike and it was terrific. He was extremely knowledgeable and fun throughout the tour. I wish that we had more stops since it is a three hour tour, but we enjoyed it. The best stop was the tapas restaurant. A great way to see the city!

A group of us went on the Jonestown/​Little Italy tour for our friends birthday. I’ve never done anything like this before but I can tell you I will be doing it again! We had the best day with out tour guide Ambi! She was amazing! She was knowledgeable, funny and very personable! LOVED HER! I have never eaten so much food! There was not a single item we tried that wasn’t delicious! Every place we stopped, we were treated like VIP’s and never waited for anything! I would absolutely do this tour again in a heartbeat! Especially if we got to hang out with Ambi again! Do yourself a favor and book this tour! Just come hungry and ready to have a great experience!

Came in from out of town and tried this one night. I witnessed my friend getting talked down to by corp office when she had to reschedule due to another friends cancelled travel arrangements. Not off on a good foot. However, the day of the tour our guide Nich was awesome!

We loved James! Took the Fells Point food tour this past weekend. What a blast, even in the cold. Fun people, great food at little places I probably would’ve over-​looked but now can’t wait to go back and try and informative. History and food with fun folks — what’s not to love!!!

Went on the Fells Point food walking tour, it was really great. Our guide Nora was absolutely awesome! She definitely knew her food/​drinks and we got to sample food from some great places!
I’d definitely recommend this tour and I’m excited to try the other food walking tours they offer!
