Celie’s Waterfront Inn

Small rooms, we didn’t get a view. But everything else was fabulous. Squeaky clean, fabulous new bath, nice décor, beautiful craftsmanship and LOVED the location! Will go back again. Many many times.

We decided to come here for my wife’s birthday. This was home base. She’s not as into the hotel thing, so we looked for someplace cozy and laid back.
Celie’s fit the bill. It’s a bit hard to find, but once you do it’s easy to get in and out (don’t be alarmed or put off by the coded door. It’s cake…). Also– if you book a stay with them I’d go ahead and take them up on the parking pass. The lot is a bit down the road (5 minute walk tops… I wandered more than walked to be honest) but is lit, secure, and easy despite the construction. Otherwise you will fend for yourself.
It has access to lots of bars and places to eat, although the waterfront part is due entirely to proximity and not to views. The water taxi is right there, though.
Likes: Our room was great. We were in number 6, which had a garden view of the courtyard. It was a nice little balcony to hang out on (we had wine and cheese added to our room) and was far enough back that we didn’t hear a lot of crap from Saint Patrick’s Day revellers.
We didn’t try the breakfast. But wtf’s are due for reviewers who bagged these guys for not having some posh breakfast. Uhm… there are oodles of famous brunch locales mere STEPS from this place. Why would they bother with a fancy breakfast? Come on. For what it’s worth, I found it just fine to be able to get some tea, a bagel, and ponder what I was really going to eat later that day.
The staff costs them a star. NOT because they were unfriendly. Aside from check in, I never laid eyes on them! But before we arrived they were VERY responsive and very attentive when I asked questions. The gal who was on duty when we arrived way earlier than I said we would was real flexible, too, and let us stash our bags while we waited for the room.
Overall, whenever we decide to come to Fells Point, we’ll definitely give Celie’s a look as a lodging option. It was a good experience.

My partner and I stayed at Celie’s and thoroughly enjoyed it! This was our first trip to Baltimore, and we will definitely be back. The gated entrance is tucked between two businesses, and there’s a sign that hangs over the gate. Once inside the gate, there’s an alleyway that leads past the entrance to room 7, a small nook, the entrance to the office, and finally, the patio that connects to the ground floor dining room. We buzzed the office from the gate and were greeted by the on-​duty innkeeper (I can’t remember her name, but she was in her mid-​twenties and very nice; she was the only staff person we encountered during our two-​day visit). She showed us to our room (we stayed in room 3 on the 2^nd floor) and politely answered questions about the inn and the neighborhood.
The road outside the inn is cobblestone, which is designed more for horse and carriage than car. We opted for the 24hr parking pass, which enabled us to park in a parking lot located a couple blocks from the inn. The only time we drove during our stay was to visit family and to check out a restaurant located a few miles away; otherwise, we walked. There is so much to see and do in the area! A water taxi stop is located across the street (however, the water taxis run on a seasonal schedule so instead of taking one, we decided to walk to our destination. They have over 15 stops within the area, traveling from Ft. McHenry to the National Aquarium. The water taxis charge $ 10 for a full-​day pass, and I believe the front desk offers a discounted pass). While we were there, we checked out Kooper’s Tavern, Slainte Pub, The Horse You Came In On Saloon, and Bertha’s Mussels (all within the neighborhood). According to the Wikipedia article on Fells Point, it has the largest concentration of pubs and restaurants within Baltimore, and I’d certainly believe it!
The National Aquarium is within walking distance of the inn (approximately 20 minutes) and is also serviced by water taxi. The Aquarium is located in the downtown area, which also has plenty of restaurants and sights to see. We toured the USS Constellation, USS Torsk, and the lightship Chesapeake. If you’re visiting during the week, you can tour all three for the price of one ($ 11 admission). The World Trade Center of Baltimore is located in the area, and it has a viewing deck on the 27^th floor ($ 5 admission). The downtown area is also home to the Public Works Museum of Baltimore (closed on Mondays), the USCGC Taney (part of the historic ships tour), and a former cable car power plant which now houses a Hard Rock restaurant, a Barnes and Noble (one of the coolest B&Ns I’ve ever seen), and assorted businesses.
Anything we could need was within walking distance: ATMs, grocery store, pharmacy. For a neighborhood that has a large concentration of bars and restaurants, it was very quiet in our room. We stayed in room 3, which was small but served our needs. We opted for the continental breakfast our first morning, and it featured scones and bagels, cream cheese and butter, three different fruit spreads, cereal, granola (very yummy!), grapes, yogurt, tea, coffee, and juice.
We spent more time exploring the neighborhood than staying at the inn, but from the time we were at the inn, we had a very pleasant experience and will return again.

«Bed and Cornflakes» would be a better way to describe this place.
We stayed here last weekend, and the room was fabulous, and the staff were perfect, but for $ 450 for a suite you would expect more than cold cereal and Costco bagels. I was really expecting a pretty special breakfast. There weren’t even eggs. I could just imagine the owners saying to themselves «heh heh heh! We could make even MORE money by getting the cheapest possible breakfast.» I felt pretty ripped off. It is also true that on the weekend, the bars downstairs have loud music until 2 AM, though it didn’t bother us that much since we were awake. Really, the rooms were great, but why skimp on something like that when you charge SO much?

Here was our list of requirements for finding a hotel around Fells Point: It needed to be clean, affordable and easy to find after a night of heavy drinking. Celie’s Waterfront Inn fulfilled all three requirements and then some.
First of all, you absolutely need to know the street number because you’ll never find it otherwise. The gated entrance is tucked into an alleyway between a dress shop and a comic book store. We walked past it three times before we finally found it. The ground level «courtyard room» that we stayed in was small, but very comfortable, had all of the basic amenities and was beautifully decorated. They serve scones and pastries in the communal dining room in the AM, although we didn’t bother partaking given the (relative) closeness of Blue Moon Café (yes, you MUST go there!). There is a small patio with tables in the back that would have been a pleasant place to hang out had the weather been warmer.
To be honest, we didn’t spend much time in the room. When my boyfriend made the reservation he asked if it got very loud and was told that it was «surprisingly quiet» (we knew better than to believe this). From about 1:30 — 3:30 AM, we heard a continuous loop of people running up and down stairs, cars honking, someone banging on a door, unintelligible yelling, heavy bass, something breaking, police sirens and alarms going off. It’s Fells Point on a Saturday night; if you’re looking for peace and quiet, this isn’t the place, although I looked at their website after we stayed there and found out that all rooms have access to their private rooftop deck. Now I’m beginning to wonder if a good bit of the ruckus was caused by other people staying at the inn.
We will definitely stay there again. You couldn’t ask for a better location for the price… Oh, and DEFINITELY take advantage of the $ 10 per day parking. You’ll regret it if you don’t!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a night when in Baltimore for a concert. We weren’t in Baltimore for the hotel room, so it was exactly what we needed — mostly taken up by the king size bed and very clean. The roof deck give you a nice view of the City, and is perfect for sunset cocktails (BYO). The best part of Celie’s is that it’s right in the heart of Fell’s point — so we didn’t have to stumble far to get back «home». I’d pick this place over one of the hotel chains any day.
