Great experience visiting Breaking Bread today in Pigtown… the proprietor and her team(family, I believe) were extraordinarily hospitable and ensured a great late lunch when I stopped in today. The food was delicious with great portion sizes… never had a better turkey burger and doubt I will have one of that caliber again anytime soon. My first substantive visit to Baltimore, as a current resident of DC, and after dining here, you know you’ve been to «Charm City»…this will definitely be a regular stop on future visits!

We came in the night of Tue 1⁄26AKA while the city was still coming back to life from this past weekend’s historic blizzard. I’m not sure if this had anything to do with the sub-par service we received, but I so badly want a sit-down spot in Pigtown that I’m willing to give this place another try. It is truly a family affair, which I loved seeing, but it’s obviously a teaching environment for the owner’s son(who waited on us) because service was spotty at best. We received bread(ciabatta roll) at the table when we sat, and the owner asked if we ate meat because she was testing out a new buffalo chicken dip recipe she’d like us to try(free). I sure hope they put the dip on the menu, because it was awesome and definitely the best thing we had while we were there! Unfortunately, my husband’s bacon cheeseburger was nothing to write home about — a seemingly frozen patty topped with half-melted cheese on a grocery store bun. The sticky wings were good, but certainly not worth the terrible service. All told, we spent 1.5 hours getting dinner tonight. There were 3 other groups in the restaurant while we were there; it took 45min to get my wings(!), at which time we were told(very apologetically) that his burger would have to be re-done and how would he like it cooked. I’m not sure if they originally made it, realized they never asked him how he wanted it cooked, then asked and made another one or what, but it was another 15 min until he received his burger(a reasonable amount of time, had we not already sat there for 45min). I understand a relaxing sit-down dinner can take 1.5 hours, but for a frozen burger and wings that is crazy. Other reviews & Facebook posts mention soups and actual entrée items, which sound much more appetizing than the limited menu of burgers or wings that was presented to us tonight. I suppose there could be off-menu options, but again our server was not very helpful. I have high hopes for this new neighborhood spot but after tonight, I’ll keep my expectations low.

I wandered in this place after taking a walk through Washington Blvd. At first on-look it looked cozy. And I had an urge for an ice-coffee to drink since the nearest Starbucks coffee shop was a little ways for me I decided to stop by in here instead. The place is extremely comforting and the ambience was what would you expect from a typical coffee shop. The woman that waited once was extremely sweet and professional. She was very attentive to my needs and any questions u had. I looked over the menu and saw they had a decent array of foods that seemed pretty affordable. But I decided to try the flavored cupcakes they had instead and oh boy! What a wise decision. I tried the Strawberry shortcake which was about $ 3 and some change. Which was pretty agreeable. The size and taste of that cupcake was phenomenal. At first glance you wouldn’t think such a cupcake could have such flavor! But this one sure did. It was very delicious, the icing, the Taste right down to the strawberry on top. I would put this cupcake on the best cupcakes I have ever had! It was that good. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great comfortable place to hang out and have a cupcake :)

Finally a dinner spot in Pigtown! Went with my son this evening for dinner — he had the cheeseburger and fries… the burger appeared to be perfectly cooked, and the one fry I was allowed to sample… ahem…was really fresh and well-seasoned. I ordered the turkey sausage, kale, and potato soup — it was absolutely delicious. Creamy without being heavy, the sausage didn’t overwhelm the other ingredients, and it was perfectly seasoned. I kind of wish now I had ordered the bowl instead of the cup, since it was so good! And… I hate turkey and kale with equal relish, so the fact that I ate both in one cup and liked it – well, that really says it all right there. I would definitely order it again. The restaurant has a casual, friendly vibe, and the service was very good — will definitely go back!

The food and desserts put out by Breaking Bread is just amazing! Their sandwiches are always fresh and tasty. The cakes and cookies are wonderful. I can’t say enough good things about Breaking Bread! I’m delighted they have opened up a store on Washington Blvd. Really worth trying.

Opening night tonight at Breaking Bread in Pigtown! They ran a limited menu, but each item we tried was spectacular. Went for the Beef Burgers(Turkey is an option), and the legendary Awesome Fries and Sticky Wings. Just do everything! The whole family was working tonight and they had upbeat music, a bright and chipper mood and made for one of the most personable and memorable dining experiences in Southwest. Sticky Wings are amazing– served in sets of six and are a sweet Asian-tasting sauce served with chives. They’re great. Try them. Awesome fries are made with a special sauce and pulled pork, sour cream and chives on top. They are delicious as well. I wish the burger buns were a little nicer– but don’t fear the plain looking bun. The insides are delicious and one of the best burgers this side of town(Ciabatta or more substantial bread bun would be nice though). I love they’re occupying one of the nicest spaces on the Boulevard. Looking forward to the bar opening and a new hot spot in southwest! Welcome to Pigtown!
