Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar

This is one of my favorite places to go to on the weekend. It has everything for everyone! Hot food items, fresh produce, candles, handmade items, pickles!.. I could go on and on. One suggestion is to get there as early as possible. The later you go, the more overwhelming it gets. I usually try to get there by 8 am, but note by 9:30, it gets a little hectic. If you do go later, make a list and a plan! Be prepared that some produce might be sold out the later you go.
That being said, I love it here. So many stands of fresh produce. Don’t forget your reusable bags or a handy cart because you might end up buying more than you planned. There are plenty of options for parking — street parking, parking at the garage across the street, parking lot right by the Farmers Market (best option).
First things first — get a cup of coffee from either Zeke’s coffee or Caffe Latte Da! For dairy, my favorite stop is South Mountain Creamery! Delicious bacon, eggs, yogurt and milk! If grabbing some fresh fruit/​vegs is not enough, there are a great number of food vendors. The Verandah serves an Curry Burrito that is delicious. Also, the Mushroom Stand is a must try! The ladies working the stand are very helpful and I am always amazed at the variety of mushrooms they sell. They also serve mushroom oyster fritters with homemade feta cheese and hot sauce. My mouth is salivating just thinking of it. Be sure to also check out vendors such as Charm City Soaps for some lovely gifts for yourself and/​or others. Be prepared to wander. that’s the best part. Each time you go, you are bound to find a new thing to love. This is a must try for anyone in Baltimore!

We love coming here when we’re in town and in need of groceries. Zeke’s always has a massive set up with a line, there’s places to get breakfast and lunch too. The variety of fruits, vegetables and lettuces is astounding. The prices are right on most things. The seafood dealer there is fantastic from what we’ve bought there. There’s pies, wool for crafts, juice, dairy items and more.

It hadn’t even occurred to us to review the market, even though we’re here nearly every Sunday they’re open! Parking’s best early, but you can get a great selection of in-​season fruits, vegetables, and plants through the full market morning.
A few of our favorites:
Reid’s Orchard’s model for selling tomatoes midsummer and apples in the fall is our favorite — tons of varieties laid out to buy, mix-​and-​match by the pound. It’s nice to be able to select your own mix, and make sure you get the ripeness you want.
The Curry Shack has been a favorite breakfast of mine for more than a decade — West Indian Patties and Caribbean Samosas are both delicious.
Don’t forget to stop by the fish market stall to check out their trivia — if you’re one of the first three correct answers of the day, you get a prize!
Zeke’s Coffee is of course a staple, and always worth whatever the wait is.
The pickle stand, In A Pickle, often has a bit of a line — and that’s because of how friendly and willing to offer samples they are, but again — worth the wait when you want fresh pickles with great flavors — don’t miss trying the wasabi!

The Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar is held every Sunday, literally right underneath the JFX (the Jones Falls Expressway) at Holliday and Saratoga. This market came to be around ’77, and offers a variety of goods and eats you can purchase — woodworks, beads, wreaths, baked goods, jams, fresh produce, and even food stands/​trucks. I came here to check out some specific food stands out, but just note that you should arrive super early, as food items tend to run out! The set-​up is kind of confusing, as it curls around and encompasses a couple of blocks — just keep in mind there’s an information desk where the folks are friendly and can help direct you. In addition, there also seems to be cooking demonstrations from local eateries (when I was there, I saw Woodberry Kitchen doing some vegetable sauteeing action). Parking is extremely limited and closely monitored, so make sure you read the street signs and park accordingly. There are also $ 5 lots where you can park for about a block of a walk. The place is usually open from April to December!

I travel to Baltimore annually for work and try to drop by this market if I have some free time.
You can get everything from artwork, to handmade soap, to Brussels sprouts, to mini donuts and everything in-​between.
The one thing I don’t like about the market is how it’s laid out. There seem to be booths here, there, and everywhere with lines for different booths intersecting. If you’re an introvert or get overwhelmed by crowds, this might not be the place for you. But otherwise? Definitely check it out.

This farmers market is fantastic. It’s a perfect balance of fresh produce from local farmers and delicious cuisine you can munch on as you walk around. Everything is well priced and it’s easy to maneuver throughout the booths. Get there early (opens at 7am), but some places aren’t up and running until closer to 8am. Don’t leave without getting the mini donuts, so freaking good.

I adore this farmer’s market, which spans a huge area under the highway. So many awesome local products – fruits and veggies, cheeses, breads, coffees, mead, meats, artwork – and I’m really only scratching the surface. I guarantee you’ll find something worthwhile if you take the time to browse. Just as a note, most of the vendors only take cash, but there’s an ATM onsite.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to find one of the best Farmers’ Markets I’ve ever been to in Baltimore. I’m so glad our host recommended we stop by! With all the amazing food options available, the farmers market is overwhelming in the best way possible. There were so many vegan options to choose from it was hard to decide which corner of the world to take culinary inspiration– Jamaican-​style BBQ tofu, Mediterranean pitas, or Indian veggie wraps? Or maybe just a fresh pressed juice? It was packed by the time we arrived (11ish) so I think early morning is the best time to get here before everything gets picked over. There was a wonderful mix of fruit, veggies, dairy items, jams and butters, and ready-​to-​eat meals. There were even crafters and florists! I feel like we got a real sense of the heart and soul of Baltimore in one morning at this lively, charming market.

Finally got around to visiting the Farmer’s Market. Have only lived in the city for over 2years and have never dragged myself out of the house, but decided to give it a go with my new roommate. One thing I can say for sure, its very overwhelming! There was so much to do and so much to see, that I got lost and didn’t actually by anything. Overall though I think you have to be a regular to understand where to get the best deals, but it really is a hidden gem!

I haven’t seen so many people in one place like I did at this Sunday’s Farmers Market! It is a great gathering of cooked food vendors, local farmers (similar to those who part of the CSAs), meat/​egg farmers, and artisanal crafters/​florists. This is a great place to get a gift for your boo!
I highly suggest getting there early before it gets crowded. It gets pretty annoying when you’re trying to talk to a vendor about their products and people are slamming you with their huge reuseable bags full of produce and large sunflowers. I also suggest getting to know your farmers; it’s great to learn where your veggies/​fruits come from and how to choose the best one!
Also, BRING CASH! Most of the vendors here (especially the farmers) don’t accept card. And do sample everything. especially tomatoes… they are the one product I taste dramatically different than those in the grocery stores.

This was walking distance from me when I lived in Mt Vernon. Loved walking here for fresh produce and tasty hot treats (donuts, kettle corn). The coffee they sell with fresh cream made me want to swim in it in a bathtub face down to drink that stuff… totally awesome! Homemade humus… awesome! The pumpkin roasted pecans… freaking crack. I miss this market; do visit this jewel!

Let me preface this review by saying that I hail from Rochester, NY which is home to one of the best farmer’s markets in the country. As a quick aside, if you’re ever in the area check out the Public Market!!! Anyway…
Since, I’ve lived in the area I’ve checked out several local farmer’s markets and have been somewhat disappointed. They all seem so high-​end. All I wanted was a no-​frills farmer’s market with a lot of variety and lots of eat-​now options. This weekend I found it at the Baltimore Farmers’ Market and Bazaar.
They had many, many fresh fruit and veggie stands to choose from as well as jams, bakeries, organic meat and dairy stands, small shop stands, and artsy stands. We stopped for Pit Beef which was a little plain for my taste but I’m not a ketchup, mustard, or bbq sauce person so that’s just my humble opinion. The fries however were fresh and yummy! The standout for me were the box of mini donuts from Migue’s. We liberally coated them with every available topping, which I advise you to do as well!
Park In the garage across the street and get your ticket validated at the Welcome tent and you get 2 free hours of parking.

As a Baltimore weekend visitor, I was so so bummed when I found out Lexington Market is closed on Sundays. Hoping to buy some fresh seafood before heading home, I scoured the interwebs for Sunday Farmers’ Markets and this popped up right away.
I’m so glad I was able to see this place in action. It was a place pulsing with life and obviously locally driven rather than tourist driven. We came late in the day, but were still able to nab a couple frozen lobster tails under $ 20, try samples of produce and smell fresh flowers and fruits. The farmers’ markets I know and love are typically pretty small. Vendors here stretched down the way by the dozen, and zigzagged for a few rows.
The vintage and handmade craft scene was also pretty noteworthy. Lots of juice, ice cream and food stands to choose from, and a cute little hula hooping area. It was definitely my favorite stop all weekend. Go now! :)

After traipsing around Artscape the day before, in blistering heat, finding almost no art, I was ready to be annoyed when I saw a bunch of food booths at the farmers market.
Happily we ventured further into the market and found a large number of well-​stocked produce stands. Good variety, good prices and delicious produce. Easy to breach by car/​foot/​bus. I was really pleased to see the number of local farms and ‘seasonal’ stuff. This time it was tomatoes and peaches. In the fall I’m sure it will be apples and pumpkins.
Only four stars because it is crowded and clunky, but manageable.

Largest Farmer’s market in the area, lots of vendors, fresh food, open from morning till noon only. Recommended to go early for better picks and less queue.
I went to this farmers market yesterday fro the first time and boy I was surprised by the size of it. I loved this place. Very happening bazaar with lots of local farms vendor, baked goods vendors, Fresh flower vendors, sauces — oils — dressing vendors, clothing and accessory vendors, and plenty of food options.
We arrived a bit late, around 10, but were lucky to find parking in a lot across the farmer’s market. Looking at the size of the market we immediately realize that we are going to regret not coming early. Being short on time, we decided to make a quick round and see where we want to spend our time.
Vendors I loved:
1 The mushroom stand — Huge variety and great tasting, hot food option available to just pay at the stand and get the number
2 Pickle stand — Lots of pickle variety, Must try hot and spicy and ol’ bay
3 The wild pea — great hummus, must try asian fire and pineapple jalapeño
4. Cavana Pasta — bought Artichoke ravioli because it was different from the store options.
5. Nuts to you — got pecan spread. not too sweet and really fresh
6. Hawks Hill Creamery — got garlin dill cheese. Really yumm!
7. Little Paris — the challah bread and sweet potato bread were amazing, Try sample first
8. Greek Super Foods — mango vineger
9. The green peas stand — Fresh English peas
10. Zeek coffee– Must try for early birds
Recommendations:
— EARLY… Go as early as possible to avoid parking hassle and get fresh picks
–TAKE CASH. most of the vendors take only cash, the ATM in the market changes 3.5 $ fee
— BAGS/​TROLLEY — Take your own bags. Some vendor provide plastic bags while others don’t and the stuff gets heavy
Bottom line… I immediately fell in love with this place and so will you!

There’s a lot to love about a farmer’s market in Baltimore — but there’s also a lot about it that’s a bit Baltimore.
The Baltimore Farmer’s Market is a great and reasonably huge market underneath the bridge in the heart of Baltimore, making it convenient for most. Of course, by virtue of being located near the bridge, it’s absolutely infested with hobos and beggars, though it cleans up somewhat nicely. The hours are painfully shirt — 7am to noon — but it tends to run a hair longer when the demand is there.
There are a ton of food stands here, which are uniformly excellent. The Indian stand here was good, and the ice cream and doughnuts sold here were absolutely to die for. Service isn’t lightning-​fast and lines are long, so it takes a while to get any sort of food, but it’s generally worth it. Definitely try Blacksauce Kitchen — their biscuits are amazing.
The other carts are a bit much. Like any farmer’s market, there are a lot of craft-​y, hippy type places. You may like it, you may not.
Honestly, the biggest issue here is the juxtaposition of the market and the sheer number of beggars. It simply doesn’t feel safe to have beggars positioning themselves between you and a parking lot, or generally any combination like that.

As great as the burgers are at Gary’s Grilled Turkey Burgers, they need to pick up the pace. The people are too lax. I’ve been waiting in line to place my order for 30 mins. Those waiting for their orders (that have already been placed) have been waiting for even longer. The issue is not that the food is not ready, it’s that they are slow as molasses in packing and filling orders.
The food is ready, and the two order preparers function as if they are special needs. For a stand with such a high demand, they are best in being delegated for napkin replacement or smiling.
Having worked in food service and holding a supervisory position, it’s taking everything out of me to NOT go behind the counter, start giving orders, reassigning roles and getting the line moving.
I won’t be coming here again, the wait is not worth it. Especially with chronic pain & bank issues.
I’m live typing this review and I’m still third in line to put in my order. I should mention, I’ve been third in line to place my order since I first got in this line over 30 mins ago. This is bullsh#%.

There are so many places to great fresh veggies & fruit. Also the flower selection is awesome!!!
This a great place to come and people watch and just walk around. There are some many different types of people wandering around.

There were tons of vendors here! Didn’t get to look through all of them because it was raining, but I’d love to come back on a sunnier day. I was so happy that Dooby’s has a stand here: I bought a sticky bun which was sold at room temp, so I microwaved it at home and it was great! I also got kettle corn from a different vendor.
They were also selling hot foods like pad thai and sandwiches, and I also saw fresh donuts.

All right. Here goes. This is, hands down, the best farmers’ market in the DMV. As passionate as I am about Eastern Market and its environs (including the flea market), and as much as I appreciate Dupont and 14^th Street markets, they can’t compare on the produce and food-​in-​general end. The Baltimore market is all about the farmers, their locally grown harvests, and the salt-​of-​the-​earth attitude they bring with them.
You will not find tourists or politicos here. There is nothing artificial about this market, where the farmers’ trucks pull up under freeway bridges, and the prices drop as the clock ticks towards noon. When the clock strikes twelve, they are gone as quickly as they came.
You can buy locally raised zucchini and cucumbers and peppers, three for a dollar. You can buy five apples from local orchards for $ 2.50. [At Dupont Circle Market I had to pay $ 2.00 for one non-​local peach!]. There is an egg lady and a mushroom lady — and the farmed-​and-​soaked beans stalls. There’s a pickle man, and a goat cheese man. And table after table of fresh greens, herbs, vegetables and fruits for crazy low prices. There are flower stalls and olive oil stands, and, and…
Cannot believe I never came here during the years I’ve lived in D.C. Next time, I will explore the food stands (did try the crêpe stand, which was good) and the bazaar/​flea market section. Didn’t have time today (arrived at 9:30a.m.). Next time I will leave much earlier.
And there will be many next times.
