History
Established in 1982.
Carney’s Restaurant in Ballston Lake has been a gathering place for residents of the area for more than 100 years. Its primary use has been as a restaurant and as hotel but it has had many other uses as well and the building actually dates back to 1840.
In 1982, Bob and Rosemary Carney bought the building and operated it as an Irish pub (Carney’s Tavern). They maintained the original oak bar back tin ceiling. An original trolley rail was added as a footrest around the bar. Bob passed away in 2012 and in 2013 Rosemary passed the reigns of the restaurant on to a former kitchen worker who attempted a more upscale restaurant.
Two years later (April 2015), Carney’s Tavern was restored to its pub-like days of the past by owners Matt and Stephanie Finnigan. In addition to Matt & Stephanie’s refreshed look and classic tavern-fare menu, some of Bob & Rosemary’s memorabilia is back along with the pool table, charm & that wonderful feeling of welcomeness.
