Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center

Great experience accept dealing with the charge nurse in the ER. He was very rude and short tempered. I believe his name was Raymond. Definitely does not stand for the «Kaiser» image. I hope he is addressed by his superiors!!!

As usual The wait time is ridiculous. Checked in for my appointment at 11 and did not see the doc until 11:50. I must stop getting my hopes up that scheduling an appointment means you will be seen in a timely fashion. This is the only KP that is this bad. Doctor is great by the way that’s why it’s not 1 star.

My wife and I have been covered by Kaiser since 2001 and we both feel they are an excellent provider of health care. Initially we were hesitant because of the bad reputation HMO’s had, and the feeling that our freedom of choice like we had under our prior plans would not be available. It’s true your providers are limited to the doctors within Kaiser as opposed to say, doctors who are part of the Blue Cross network but we don’t miss that at all. I’d choose Kaiser any day of the week.
Everything is so convenient here. If you need to go to the lab or pharmacy or see a specialist, everything is in one location and you don’t have to go driving all over the place or wait for authorization from the insurance company and deal with a whole lot of red tape like you do with other plans. I like how Kaiser is constantly striving to improve its operations and make all its processes more efficient.
Sure, sometimes it is crowded and wait times are long but that’s the luck of the draw and I understand you have to balance your budget and resources to match the demands which means sometimes patients will have to be inconvenienced. Overall, though, I think they do a great job and like I said, they’re always trying to improve what they do.
As far as the physicians and the staff, we’ve had excellent experiences. There’s always some bad apples in the bunch no matter where you go but overall my wife and I are very satisfied with the level of care we have received. Our physicians seem to genuinely care about us. We wouldn’t think of switching health care providers. Kaiser ought to be a model for how to conduct health care, and teach the sorry, sad mess that is Obamacare a thing or two or three.

I seen a review regarding pharmacist Abner, I think he’s the Hawaiian looking one. I totally disagree with the review that the patient posted. I’ve been to the pharmacy a lot of times and he’s all about patient care.
Not to be rude but if the medication was that essential to you, how do you run out of your meds? Stay on top of it and don’t blame people for your actions.

Been with Kaiser for over 30 years. I love their approach on preventative care. I also like the doctors I’ve had for myself and my son. I’ve been through the system so I know how to best satisfy my needs instead of getting frustrated. I enjoy that I can go to urgent care, just walk in and see a doctor in a timely manner. I also love the same day appointment, calling at 7am and getting an appointment for that day to see a doctor. I also like that I’ve had the same doctor for over a decade and he has helped me get healthy and stay healthy with classes on some of the things I’m struggling with and being able to get medications. I’ve only had one surgery in my life and it was performed at Kaiser BP and they did a tremendous job. I love and highly recommend Kaiser Permanente!!!

Solid three stars not because the service is bad. Staff is very pleasant but wait times are always terrible. Why make an appointment to wait another 30 minutes or more? Not my favorite facility to visit.

I used to love Kaiser hospital. But now it seems like they are stingy with their medicine. I was prescribed like 3 medicines. They give me a generic version of my pro air (idk why that’s the first time) then they don’t give me my sudafed that the doctor prescribed. I was told to go to the store to buy it, even though its covered in my insurance. and didn’t even acknowledge the fact I need the vials for the machine. What happened to them. They used to care a lot more and tend to their patients more.

Always wait wait wait wait! Some staffs are really nice, some don’t care about you at all, I guess that’s normal, but I thought Kaiser is known for not letting patients wait for too long if you get here on time with an appointment. Too bad my company only let u choose your health insurance once a year, so we r stuck with Kaiser this year, will switch insurance next year for sure.

Came into Urgent Care expecting a long wait but I was done with everything within about two hours. I went Thursday morning — I pulled into the parking structure around 8:40. I walked over to Urgent Care and waited in line for a few minutes and they checked me in around 8:50. Within about 10 minutes I was called up to register (asked me a few questions about an emergency contact and co-​pay). Then around 9:30 I was called by a nurse to check my vitals. They didn’t have a room available so I went back out into the waiting area. At 10 I was called in by the nurse to see the doctor. The doctor came in around 10:07; we talked for a bit and then she gave me a prescription. The doctor left and then I waited for the nurse to dismiss me — which happened around 10:20. I made my way to the pharmacy, which is just down the hall. I checked in to the Pharmacy at 10:23 and picked up my prescription at 10:26.
Compared to my previous visit to urgent care by a different medical service provider (not Kaiser) which was 6+ hours long, I was extremely pleased with the speed and efficiency of everything and everyone.

My wife delivered our baby girl in January of this year. Our experience with Baldwin Kaiser has been great. Scheduling appts is such a breeze and obtaining forms from medical records very efficient. Everyone from doctors to nurses to clerks, etc. were professional and friendly. We are impressed with the organization and professionalism of the OB dept. Our experience with the pediatric dept is overall good. Had one negative experience with the ER dept a few years ago when I had to bring my two year old in due to some type of rash. Free parking here but not at most parking lots in LA Kaiser.

Not happy with the laboratory. I’m not mad at any person in particular, just mad at how things are run there. I came to the lab to get blood drawn for a glucose reading. I was given that orange drink that helps read your glucose levels and it only lasts in your system for an hour. You have to get your blood drawn before time runs out. Once your hour is over and you didn’t get your blood drawn, you gotta do it all over again (drink that medicine and wait another hour).
I watched and listened for my number and haven’t been called. One of the receptionists even told me to check in 5 min before my time runs out just in case and I did just that. I checked with them letting them know I have 5 more min and the receptionist told me my new number so that I may get served right away. I seriously shouldn’t rely on them to take care of my time cause it was too late, my hour was over. I didn’t have to do that, to constantly check up on them to see if my turn will come. The waiting room wasn’t full and I didn’t see many lab techs at stations.
I finally got my blood drawn 5 minutes after my hour, I don’t know if the reading will be accurate. Who is responsible for making me late? The way the system calls up patients? You’d think people will be called according to the time limit they have (blood glucose readings) but I was never called up. I watched and stayed in my seat. Is it my fault that I didn’t constantly bother the receptionist about my timing? All I know is I wouldn’t be happy if I had to stay another hour just because someone or something wasn’t paying attention to my appointment. Would you be willing to stay another hour just cause nobody was paying attention to you and your needs? I really hope I don’t have to come in again and wait another hour if they didn’t get my glucose results.

I had an appointment for 9:30am, arrived at 9:20 and still haven’t been called in at 10:30. I’m only here for the doctor to give me the results of my physical and blood work. This is pretty unreasonable that they won’t sign off my paper and instead are making me wait over an hour plus I paid a 20 $ co-​pay for a signature from the doctor.

Kaiser is my primary care but on Sunday, I came here for urgent care. I got in, and I saw a large screen telling me how long the wait was. I like how Kaiser shows estimated wait times and the number in line on screens. The receptionist checked me in, and after 15 minutes I was sent off to a room to the other side of the building. Quicker than the 1 hour wait time displayed.
Once at the other room there was another wait. The nurse would come out and call on names. Just like a normal routine check up. After 30 minutes, I was called into the room where the doctor took a look at me. Simple as that.
I enjoy this facility. It is up to date, clean and spacious. They have all the major things done at this Kaiser. There is a lot of parking and it is right off the freeway. 24 hour pharmacy.

Went with my aunt for her appt, I dont have Kaiser, but was irritated that you have to check in one room and go to another. We went where we were directed, and had to back track. They should advise you of that, but then again, not everyone is that helpful. Workers are friendly.

I’ve been with Kaiser since I was a kid. I’m so happy to continue my care with Kaiser as an adult. My primary care physician (PCP) is actually here at the Baldwin Park location but I live 5 minutes from Pasadena’s office so I like to go there when I’m not feeling well enough to drive here. Yeap– try that with your PPO.
I love that I can just look up the closest KP facility instead of calling a bunch of offices to see if they take my insurance.
I love that I can usually get in for a same day appointment OR consult with a doctor over the phone if I want to stay in bed.
I love that no matter if I go to Baldwin Park, Pasadena, San Diego, or LA– my medical history is accessible.
I love that if I have prescriptions the pharmacy is downstairs– no making a second trip to CVS, Ralphs, or Target get to get medication.
Same thing with lab work or x-​rays– same building.
It doesn’t get easier than that.
As for the long wait people complain about– it’s honestly the patient before that was late. All it takes is a couple of late patients, and all of a sudden your wait time is 30+ minutes. So be mindful! YES– they will take you if you’re late (no more than 15 minutes), but you’re making EVERYONE after you wait for you. Not fair. Think ahead.
It is true that the Urgent Care does have a long wait– but honestly– which urgent care doesn’t?
One time I came to the ER and had a huge laceration that ended up needing stitches. I was in and out of the ER within an hour. After checking in, I did not wait longer than 15 minutes to be seen.
I understand it can be very overwhelming but if you ask someone for guidance, they are more than willing to explain the process. I know with new ACA– there are so many people who are new so I recommend calling the 800 number on the back of your card. It will take you to someone who can help you. Good luck!

Very disappointed with the services from Kaiser. I had a visit with urgent care yesterday morning due to the fact that I had woken up about 4 days ago with eye pain .my eye felt sore to the touch and vision seemed blurry. I figured I might have something in there and it will go away. well each day passed and my vision has gotten worse and worse. to the point I realized I can’t even drive anymore as I was on my way to kaiser. Also experiencing headaches on the same side. I get there pay my Co pay. wait to see the nurse. explain everything in full detail… wait about 2 hours to see the Dr.
Doctor knocks on the door sits down asks again what is going on .I start explaining AGAIN she interrupts and says «wait what’s your name?» I tell her and continue explaining why I was there. She had an attitude that made me feel like I was wasting her time. she was just very fast and honestly didn’t really look at my eye at all .then I felt like she didn’t believe me that my eyesight was blurry because she says «I believe what your saying about your sight but it’s unusual because usually both eyes would be blurry. but I believe you» she then says «be back» walks out. 15 minutes later walks back in says I’m being referred to an ophthalmologist. Have a good day, before she walks out she says «wait let me just take a quick look» and with her NON GLOVED hand and a qtip pulls my eyelid up. and that’s it walks out. Nurse walks in hands me a phone number to call… but says ophthalmology dept will contact me in 3 days to follow up .
My situation was not resolved at all. I almost crashed driving home. My left eye is extremely blurry and my headaches are getting worse like sharp pains.
I feel like kaiser just gives you the run around to collect your Co payments. .Instead of taking care of you.
For example i went to ER a month ago with excruciating pain due to gall stones that I’ve had for years. They run some tests, give me pain meds. then send me home during an attack with a referral to see a general surgeon. I get the appointment. .go in pay my copay for the Dr to say «you have gall stones» set up a surgery date. Go in for pre op appt pay copay again. They say the same thing I already knew .I have gall stones and will be having surgery blah blah. make me wait an hour to do my blood work. only for the nurse to say «we have to do blood work within 7 days of your surgery date so u have to come back tomorrow»
So why did YOU GUYS schedule the pre op appt 8 days prior to the surgery .and why an hour to tell me you can’t do the blood work.
So I’m sure I’ll be doing a lot of back and forth and a lot of paying before anything with my eye gets resolved.

I have had experienced the ER here as well as the taking a friend to a doctor’s appointment. The ER services a lot of people and really looked more like an urgent care than an ER. There were injured and sick people sitting around in the waiting every where. On this visit my friend had suffered a self inflicted wound from a nail gun. Not wanting to cause excessive bleeding we didn’t pull the nail out, and decided to go to the ER. I helped him fill out the paper work and after 2 ½ hours of waiting he finally got someone to take a look at him. I hope that they accessed each case and addressed each situation based on urgency because 2 ½ hours in an ER is really crazy.
My second experience at this was as I mentioned taking my friend for a follow up appointment. This time we went to the main lobby and signed in. The wait was surprisingly only 30 minutes. My friend’s doctor was very nice and professional. He kept the visit brief and just went to business with taking a look at his wound and further reaffirming instructions on keeping it clean to avoid infection. So it was a decent visit.

I just got kaiser as my insurance from my work and I absolutely love it. I seriously wasn’t expecting much because every time I used to go to kaiser with other people, I felt like I had to wait there foreverrrrrr! But ever since I got my own insurance, my kaiser experience has been easy, fast and informational.
Making an appointment is super easy, just call or do it online. Get there 15 – 30 mins early before your apt time. The sooner you get there, the sooner they will see you. I’ve only had to wait 15 mins after I checked in thru the machine. I was in and out of the doctors office within 30 mins. My doctor is also very nice, made me feel super comfortable, and he described everything to me in a clear and concise way. You can tell the doctors are here to make sure you’re healthy, they don’t slack off when they see you, and you can tell that they really care.
I also love their urgent care center. They close around 9pm, so the later you go, the less people are there. I went there around 8pm after work one time and I was literally at the doctors for a total of 45 mins. This was including check in, wait time, the doctor seeing me, and getting my medicine at the pharmacy.

Having been forced to switch doctors due to insurance changes, I find myself at this Kaiser Permanente, due to the close
Proximity to my work. I also did a clinical rotation back in my nursing school days so pretty familiar with the hospital. Parking can be horrendous, but on a plus they do have valet.
Since I come here in the super early hours for my infusion treatments I can avoid the long waits and chaos that happen during the later hours. I check in get called in and sooner than you can imagine treatment in under way. The nurses are super friendly and extremely accommodating in the early hours, maybe because they will be heading home soon.
The pharmacy also extremely well organized, which is great because I have not waited more than fifteen minutes at any given time, but again because I’m there early enough to avoid what have been long waits and slow service.
Their appointment system over the phone is quite frustrating at time so I always make sure to books appointments during my visits. All in all great service but again because I avoid the hours where it is super busy. So yes I plan it quite well.

I respect the Kaiser business model, and have lived outside the Kaiser system long enough to know it’s one of the best in the country. Obama could have learned something from KP before he sent the bureaucrats to «fix» health care.
Here’s a note to the complainers who sometimes don’t get a perfect experience: That’s the nature of health care – it’s hard, and decent people make mistakes. I have not known KP staff to be anything other than mortified if they make a mistake. If you meet one that is otherwise, the next one will make up for it. If all you do is complain, some day decent health care professionals will grow sick and tired of putting up with you, then watch the health care you get.
