History

Established in 1964.

In 1965, John and Janice White opened the gates to White Forest Nursery with just a yard full of plants and a pitch-​up tent. John’s experience as an Agricultural Inspector for the state and horticultural degree from UC Berkeley allowed him to successfully supply plants to the Bakersfield area, but more importantly supply a wealth of knowledge to his customers. John and Janice established a tradition of offering a wide selection of plants along with a great deal of knowledge to make his customers successful a tradition that has been carried on by John’s son Jere White and daughter-​in-​law Rita White still to this day. After more than 45 years, White Forest Nursery has served its customers with the best customer service, plant selection, and gardening advice in all of Kern County.

With a Masters Degree in Biology from Stanford University and over 30 years of experience in the Nursery and Horticultural Industries, Jere knows what he’s talking about when it comes to plants. As the owner of White Forest Nursery and host of KERN — 1180 Garden Party Radio Show, making people successful in the garden is his ultimate goal. Making gardening fun and easy is what it’s all about. Because of that, Jere utilized his horticultural knowledge and expertise to develop the soil treatments GardenMax, TurfMax, and PenMax Plus. These soil treatments were developed with the beginner gardener in mind to bring success to everyone in the garden.
