Rodeway Inn & Suites

We stayed at the Bakersfield Roadway inn. Hotel clerk very accommodating and pleasant. Gave us a king bed in non smoking area. Big tv and good ac. Only shampoo — no hand lotion and towels rough but adequate. Coffee two paks one reg and one decaf — no tea. Breakfast sparse. Dining area two tables with two chairs each. Tables were wicker — can’t wipe clean after each guest. Location perfect for freeway access. Price good. Clean. Pool nice and spa too.

COCKROACHES!!! Just don’t stay here. This is a dive hotel, smells of cigarettes and pot. The rooms have a weird Celery smell? AC barely works, it’s just gross.

Excellent price, clean room, friendly staff, clean pool and spa. Stayed one night and totally worth it. Not a 5 star place but a nice small place which was clean enough. Bad Continental breakfast.

I used to live in Bakersfield so I knew this area wasn’t the best, but for the price and a quick trip, I wasn’t going to be too picky. However, this is probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed at, and I do quite a bit of traveling. The only reason I gave it a 2 star vs a 1 star was the cheap price ($ 123 for two nights) and the fact that the wifi actually worked. The hotel is sitting behind a run down Car’s Jr. (nice). Upon arriving, a cop was circling the parking lot, which wasn’t to reassuring. Check in was easy, the woman at the desk was friendly. Parking was easy to find, although there was old furniture everywhere. They were probably changing out things, but having dressers, nightstands and headboards everywhere? Not professional.
There were ashtrays near the elevators, very outdated (who still smokes in California?), and they reeked of smoke. I had to use my key to enter the hallway my room was in, and it stunk so bad! The carpets looked like they had NEVER been cleaned. Immediately, I worried how my room would look. The room was pretty clean, as in, housekeeping does their job. Only that, you could clearly see the dust behind the furniture (as in, the dressers had not been moved in YEARS), the furniture was so outdated and the bed was like sleeping on a cardboard box. Bathroom was fine, only that they gave us EXACTLY two towels and two washcloths. Geez.
It did not smell AS BAD in the room, but you could tell it was once a smoking room. This was the first time I actually worried about the room, I know I probably always should, but this was the first time I actually checked for bed bugs and roaches. Luckily, found none, and have no bites, so I think we are okay. The bedding was outdated and so thin. Luckily, Bakersfield never seems to get cold.
Finally, breakfast was a joke. Cereal, toast, english muffins, bananas, coffee, juice and milk. No eggs, no cream cheese, no yogurt. No protein of any kind. But hey, who doesn’t like carbs? When I booked through Priceline, it clearly said breakfast was included. But it really should just say «Coffee and muffins». Not much of a breakfast, not worth waking up before 9am for. If you need a place to stay for a quick night and don’t care about what your room looks like, give this a shot. Otherwise, I would suggest somewhere else. Only reason we stayed was cause we got to town after midnight.

You couldn’t ask for more for the price! I’m only knocking off a star because some of the features are kind of old (like microwave with a dial and blasting shower head), but it’s obvious this place has always been meticulously kept. Clean, clean rooms. Parking lot is secure, too.

Great hotel for the price. I travel to Bakersfield for business and have stayed at a few of the other hotels. But I now come back to here only. They give me the same room all the time, so it’s like going home. I sleep in the day so I need quiet. This is a great place I had complete quiet. It’s clean and the staff is wonderful. The manager is great– not what I would say about the two hotel near there. I never have trouble with tv or wifi. My only down is breakfast. But I think if you stay any where over and over– breakfast would get boring.

I would have given a better rating except for an encounter I had with the housekeeping staff. As I was checking out and making my way down the two flights of stairs, both arms completely loaded down with luggage, an EXTREMELY RUDE lady who worked there was walking right on my ass the entire time, and then eventually tried to shove me aside to get by. The front desk people were extremely nice and helpful, which kept this from being a 1-​star review.

Perfectly fine. You get what you pay for: No bed bugs, no trouble, no inconveniences. Air conditioning and cable. Good parking, safe neighborhood next to residences as well as businesses.
The breakfast the next morning is cereal, orange juice, pastries, and toast.

The room itself was fine. No weird smells as the others alleged. Clean. No stains. And to the reviewer who complained about no fitted sheets, not even the Four Seasons or the JW Marriott uses fitted sheets anymore. Flat sheets are the norm. Air conditioning was cold. Fridge was clean.
We were a bit creeped out by the people loitering outside. One guy asked my husband as he was running back outside to get something out of our car at 11pm, «Hey, how are you doing tonight? What room are you staying in?» My husband glared at him and ignored him, but he felt like he could have been jumped.
If your objective is to spend the least money and get a comfy place, this is not bad. Just hunker down after dark I guess. But perhaps if you can spare an extra $ 25, I’d go to a different place just for security. Not that we got mugged or anything, but if your place is prone to having riff raff loiter around, maybe a guard to shoo off people might not be a bad idea.

This place was bad all around. Walked in the lobby, no hello, no welcome… just a «Reservations? Last name?» No smile… nothing. Then they put us in a smoking room. TV broke, a/​c barely blowing, short sheeted beds, no towels in the bathroom, a sticky can liner… don’t ask… uses soap in the shower with pubic hairs on it, and nicatine stained walls. I don’t care how inexpensive the rooms are… It is dirty and certainly not worth it.
Day 2 we woke up feeling sick with lots of eye boogers and asked to be moved to non smoking. Last night was a Saturday night and all non smoking were booked… anyways…much better. Cleaner. Do not stay in smoking. Totally gross even for smokers.

A-​OK. The hotel room was pretty nice and comfortable, bathroom was clean. But during the night, it sounded like somebody was trying to get into the room. Creepy. Then, at 8:30 in the morning, room service knocks on the door while we were all still sleeping. Pool is rather small and shallow. Found a floating dead roach about and inch and a half long in the pool. This hotel is good enough to stay in, but if you are expecting a rather relaxing stay at the Rodeway Inn, don’t bother

Property sort of tucked behind a couple fast food placed but well marked if you watch for the signs. Arrived to town a bit early but they let me check in.
Room was dated but satisfactory. Bathroom was clean and the bed was comfortable. Pool was locked the entire stay. Covered parking is nice in the summer.
Continental breakfast is exactly that. Very simple spread of juice, cold cereal, sweet rolls, toast and bananas. Not a gourmet buffet but most defiantly adequate.
Wet will use for employees when we send down for classes.

Drove down from the Bay Area for a job interview and to check out some potential apartment rentals in Bakersfield. Had a two day stay at Rodeway Inn since this trip was on my dime.

). It’s not fancy like the Padre but it’s half the price.
I agree Rodeway has seen better days. Carpet had stains, wood stain had worn off on edge of coffee table and full size sleeper in my King non-​smoking room had cushions with exposed foam. Looks like they’re trying to remodel. The bathroom had new tiles, fixtures, shower curtain and a granite vanity but the toilet seat was yellow and extremely worn. I’m pragmatic and was able to overlook these blemishes and look at the positive.
I always bring flip flops or extra socks so I don’t have to walk around barefoot on the carpet. I didn’t need the full size sleeper so I ignored the condition of the cushions. I would have liked the toilet seat to come with seat covers as in public restrooms but overall the bathroom was very nice and clean. They just need to replace the toilet seat bench.
Considering the reviews on Unilocal for Rodeway and other nearby hotels, I was prepared plus the room gave me what I valued:
1. Quiet hotel in safe location with free parking. Bakersfield downtown is kinda sleazy so this was important since I was arriving late after dark.
2. Amenities: TV with cable and HBO (no flat screens), free WiFi (ask front desk for access code), coffee maker, fridge, microwave, pool, hot tub, ice machine, strong water pressure in shower with ample hot water, clean towels, hair dryer, basic toiletries (soap and shampoo). Room also had a desk, plenty of lamps, lots of three prong outlets and reliable WiFi.
3. Rodeway offers a «continental breakfast» but it’s basically a piece of toast or an English muffin, some generic cereal, bananas, milk and OJ. The hotel is surrounded by fast food and restaurants so you won’t go hungry or lack options: McDonald’s, Carl’s Jr, Wendy’s, El Pollo Loco, Marie Callender, Sizzlers, Mimi’s Café, etc…
I recently lost some weight and didn’t want to backslide on my diet so I brought my own food to stock up the fridge and keep me from temptation: Salad greens, low-​cal dressing, oranges, strawberries, lean pork buns, diet beverage and don’t forget a sharp knife, paper plates, plastic cutlery, etc…
I also brought my own shampoo, shower buff, hair products & toiletries and a hand held steamer. I believe you can check out an iron at the front desk but there’s no ironing board in the room. If traveling with all this stuff is not practical, once you check in, hit a Dollar Tree or 99 Cent Only store and pick up any toiletries or food you need. It’s still cheaper than staying at a fancy hotel. or filling up on fast food.
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend the Rodeway Inn if you just need an inexpensive hotel in Bakersfield. Also, don’t forget to leave a tip for the maid. It’s hard work cleaning hotel rooms so show your appreciation!

Filthy! Like super filthy! The bed sheet wasnt a fitted sheet nor did it cover the entire nasty stained matress. the wall by the desk had what appeared to be ejaculation all over the wall and to top it all off a fire alarm went off in the hallway at 5am and stayed on till 530 am without a staff member in sight nor did they answer the phone at the front desk. Im pretty sure the microwave fridge and furniture havent been replaced in at least 30 years. Worst! The worst hotel in my life. I slept better in a fox hole in iraq.

This was a very comfortable overnight stay. The bed was a king size made for a queen. The noise level… none. The only concerned I had was there wasn’t a ironing board in the room or at the front desk. I can understand the iron at the front desk, but no ironing board in room or front desk. Smh. So the ironing was challenging. I tried using the table to iron that didn’t work. So I used the bed. Haha that worked.
The continental breakfast which I didn’t partake in could have looked better. It had almost too ripe bananas in the fruit basket. Ugh! I don’t want no brown on my bananas.
The price was decent

Been here a lot of times over last 7 years, sometimes staying for months at a time. It’s a great place to stay for the price. Rooms are large and always clean. Tvs are still picture tubes and hotel over all is a little dated. But everything works and you see them painting stuff and doing maintenance. Pool and hot tub always seem clean. Both are small and I’ve never been in either. Free wifi, which most of the time is an ok speed. Right off freeway and lots of stuff to eat nearby. Easy to recommend.

How this hotel is still in business is nothing short of a miracle, probably because of the slim choice of hotels in Bakersfield. First we get there and our room will not be ready for another 30 minutes, which is ridiculous because we checked in at 4pm. So we come back 1 hour later and our room still isn’t ready and it took about another 30 minutes before it was actually ready. So by then my family and I were pretty mad, then we get into a room that’s small, a TV from ’95 and the view of Little Tijuana. Do yourself a favor and don’t even look at this place.

I stayed at the Rodeway Inn and Suites for one night and I’m glad it was just for one night. The place is old and rather dirty. The microwave had no glass plate inside to warm your food and no coffee pot as advertised. Towels felt like paper and I was scared to take off my socks. I should have stayed at the Motel 6 but I’m a Choice Priviledge member and received this room for free with my points. Good thing I didn’t have to pay!

WOW, This place is filthy.
We paid the extra money for the «Hot tub Suite» and when we got here I was afraid to walk on the carpet, let alone get in the tub. I took pictures, I could not believe it. The floors in the bathroom have mud on them. The carpet is stained and worn. The AC was not on so it was above 90 degrees in the room when we checked in at midnight. It’s BAKERSFIELD in the middle of the summer. Really? Turn Off the AC? There is a window AC and an electronic thermostat. The thermostat doesn’t work so we had to just spin the dial down on the window AC. I have no idea where these other people stayed. It is affordable but thats not what I cared about. I made the mistake of going by the other reviews I saw on here. I wish I was at motel 6… Anyplace other than here. So here i am in a 90 degree room at 1:00am, I can’t sleep and I dare not venture into the tub. This is by far the worst room I have ever stayed in. I am physically Ill even having to stay here for the night.

We weren’t expecting much when we booked this hotel because the price was exceptionally reasonable and it’s in Bakersfield. We hoped for a clean room and no bed bugs. It was a pleasant surprise when our expectations were greatly surpassed.
The room was newly remodeled. It was very clean and comfortable. There was a good sized refrigerator that fit everything from our medium sized cooler. The AC has a wall thermostat that allows you to set the actual temperature instead of the traditional «low cool,» «high cool,» etc. The bed was extra comfy.
The breakfast was reasonable for the price of the room. They had muffins, sweet rolls, Corn Flakes, apples, toast, coffee, and even low-​fat milk.
The location is super because it’s close to the highway. Plus there’s a Carl’s Jr. and Wendy adjacent to it.
The people who own this hotel definitely care about their business and the customers’ satisfaction. They were polite, responsive, and even took the time to beautify the property with flowering plants.
The photos I posted show that it’s a well-​maintained, attractive place to stay.
