I would say the best fish and chips in town. We have never had a bad meal there. Great staff, and friendly service.

Do yourself a favor if your Downtown come see Brenda and the girls for lunch. The food is always good and the prices are great! I’ve had the the Meatloaf Sammie awesome! The Cheeseburger simplicity and deliciousness at its best! The Lasagna bomb! The Basque soup better than wool growers! Pickled tongue too! The muffuletta sand which wonderful! Pastrami wow!!! Specials everyday and great location. Can’t say enough about Brenda and her passion for her customers! Bravo!!!

Had the Cobb salad, great presentation, looked gorgeous and tasted great. Limited on dressings, but the house vinaigrette was good. It would have been better with a piece of grilled chicken. The price was fair at $ 7.50, and the iced-​T was tasty. Service was good, and they were all very friendly. Heard the cheeseburger is a really big hit here, maybe next time.

This place is a gem! Sandwiches were good, we ordered the Turkey cranbery-​cream cheese, Pastrami and the Philly Cheese Steak. They are yummylicious!
These sandwiches are worth coming back for. We found a good, affordable and clean place for lunch! Winner on my list!

First time at this place today with my girlfriends for a lunch break. We chose this place based on reviews and rating on Unilocal.And it did not disappoint!
I ordered a cold sandwich, Turkey Cranberry-​Cream Cheese on squaw bread, and it was light and refreshing! My friends ordered hot sandwiches, the Pastrami on a roll and Philly Cheese Steak on a french roll. Sandwiches were served cut in half so we all had our halves and shared the other half so we can all try them. All sandwiches were excellent! The Pastrami was tasty and not greasy at all. The Philly Cheese Steak was pretty good too! One of my friends who is a big fan of German Chocolate also purchased a slice (it was one of the first things she saw on the menu) and that was kind of disappointing. It was a little on the dry side. Other than that, our lunch turned out to be pretty filling and we left with happy tummies!
I like the Island/​Beach Themed décor and murals painted on the walls. The service was pretty good. Staff were very friendly. Someone went around checking on customers every now and then but they weren’t over doing it. When we were about to leave, a lady who looked like she’s the owner, was going around checking on everyone as well. I will definitely come back and try the other items on their menu… and maybe give their lunch specials a try too!

This place is right up the street from my work and located with a good amount of parking downtown. I love their French dip sandwich– it’s well seasoned and delicious. They give a generous portion size with a lot of meat, which definitely helps get your money’s worth. Just today, my coworkers and I all had the burger and fry combo– it was delicious! Hand made burger patties with fresh toppings, always cooked to order. I recommend calling your order in ahead because they literally start making your food after you order it. Guaranteed fresh and delicious. I will be a frequent customer :)

Had lunch there today. Appears the place is a sandwich shop by day and a dive bar at night. However, the food is fantastic! I had the chicken panini, the wife had the pastrami and the boy had the turkey and cheese melt. Everything was incredible!

This was my first time coming here and I must say I enjoyed it very much. The food was good, the service was great, and the location/​ambiance was wonderful!
Food: I had a cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was fresh and tasty. The veggies were also very fresh and I love that because I’ve gotten old or stale veggies before and that’s never good. The other options my friends tried (see photos) also looked good. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Yum!
Service: the man and three women who helped us were all very kind and were genuinely concerned for our enjoyment of our meal. They asked if we needed anything and even chatted with us a bit about the restaurant. They were great hosts and it seems to be family run or close to it. I really liked the service we received. Sometimes people ask how you’re doing waaaaay too many times but the folks here got it right.
Ambiance: the restaurant has Bakersfield landmark murals painted throughout along with a beach theme which makes for a fun getaway from the outdoors! The tropical music playing in the background makes you want to hang out and not go back to work lol.
Our experience here was wonderful and I can’t wait to come back and try something else. They added new BBQ sandwiches to their menu that I might have to come back and try! Make sure to check out their FB page as well as they post about their daily specials that go for around five bucks plus a dollar for a side and another dollar for a drink! Not too shabby! Show some local support and have some lunch here! Enjoy!

Great food and service. I’ve eaten here many times. Love the cheeseburger but now they have pulled chicken or pulled pork sandwiches which are also great. Service is friendly, accomodating and efficient.

First time here. so glad my friend suggested it, for I have discovered another great option for lunch! I had the turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce spread and cream cheese. Oh my my my… Try it! You’ll love it!

I tried this place today and can only rate on service and a ham and cheese melt. Well, the service was excellent and they went above and beyond with a kind of complicated order, ham n cheese melt crispy with all the veggies and mayo with a little Tabasco or cayenne pepper mixed in. Don’t say ooooh until ya try it. Anyhow, they were super nice and accommodating despite having a constant flow of customers coming in and a huge party event going on in the large room aside the kitchen and small entry room. The sandwich itself was excellent and you can tell they take pride in what they do and the ingredients used. So if I got five star service why only four stars? The couple ahead of me asked about the «set up» and he claimed his is the best in town. Pretty big claim to make in Bakersfield! So, since this place has included itself in the Basque Set Up contenders, I gotta come back with my honey and try it out before giving a justified five star. I will definitely be back, and if u like good service and a family feel, this is a great place to support.

I, along with Kevin P., have been Mill Creek Castaway Café & Bar a total of 5 times now. It’s incredibly convenient for us since both our workplaces are downtown.
The service is wonderful. It appears to be family run, and I really like that. The owner has always made sure we were satisfied, and that goes a long way for me.
This place is divided into two sections, three if you include the small patio outside. The front has a few tables and chairs, and the cash register. The back is three times the size and has a rather large bar. It appears they do quite a few events in this back room, and it really is a great space for party.

Yesterday was first time we’d been there. Two of us had fish and chips, one had meatloaf special, and one had Philly cheesesteak. We all were satisfied with food and service. Owner came over and chatted with us and let us know about karaōke and margarita special happening that evening. We all agreed to return.
