In-Shape: Bakersfield Oswell

You will love this location !!! From the moment you walk in everyone makes you feel welcome. Anytime of the day– even at it’s busiest the gym is clean — you will even catch the management team doing extra cleaning! The entire staff goes out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. The equipment is always in working order and availabe, their programs and classes are some of the best I have ever utilized. The personal trainers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable … even with nutrition. In Shape City Oswell is a all-​around top notch fitness gym and health environment… There’s no place I’d rather get into shape !!!

I love this InShape. It is a place you can feel comfortable working out especially as a woman. All of the staff members are polite and helpful and the gym is always clean. I would say there is a pretty big variety of equipment suitable for whatever your lifting or cutting goals are.

I came to this facility because it’s closer to my house. However, I always dread coming because it’s always too hot and their equipment doesn’t work. The sauna has been sucky for over a month. How long does it take to fix it?!? I guess I’ll be going back to the California gym.

Okay so I need to give an update from my last review. Since my last review, I noticed the manager has made a lot of progress with hiring personnel. I see more employees in kid care, meaning they can take in more kids at any given time without having to be placed on a waiting list. There are more personal trainers as well, or maybe they’re new and are just replacing trainers that have left? Who knows… Gym is very clean, I can’t say enough about that. I love the fact management really keeps the cleanliness of the gym as a top priority, so shout out to the managers for doing an amazing job turning this gym around! You gotta try their boot camp on Saturday mornings too! They do boot camp outside, which is nice because it feels like an actual boot camp rather than just another aerobics class. Personnel is very friendly, so don’t think twice about giving this location a try.

Love this location. The gym is always clean and the staff is very friendly. Fitness Manager Omar is always available when I have questions. The new hot tub is a very nice addition. This is the premier gym on the east side of Bakersfield.

I loved the gym when i would go. Parking isnt fun, but still doable. The staff is awesome. They remember you and your children. I just quit going for financial reasons, but if i was to start the gym back up, id Definitely be going back to this in shape. Steam room has a mind of its own though. And when it gets busy, you may find yourself needing to wait for equipment.

I’ve been going to this gym for a year and a half and I’ve enjoyed doing the work with trainers. I started working with Claire Gilbert a few months ago. Now, we are doing work that really helps me with everyday activities. Prior to working with her I couldn’t get off the floor without help. She has been helping with balance/​flexibilty/​strength. I get off the floor with ease, thanks to ber. Every visit she choreographs new exercises to support my continued improvement. I was close to quitting personal training as I was doing things I could do myself on the machines. I don’t need a cheering section… I needed someone like Claire who understands the effects of aging and offers tailor made exercises to combat them!

Joined this club last month. Was very impressed with the cleanliness and quality of the equipment and facility. Tyler Scott Thompson was very friendly and accommodating. He showed me around and made me feel at home. My trainer, Omar, also demonstrated how knowledgeable he was about my personal needs and concerns. The staff has always been courteous and professional. My mother also joined, and is having a great time in Yolanda’s Silver Sneakers class! I have met some really nice people while working out. I actually enjoy going to the gym now!

I been with in shape around 5 years already. Can’t go wrong with these guys. Atmosphere is awesome and they keep it clean. The cleaning staff are on point. This specific location is not over crowded either.
There are good amount of machines, free weights, medicine balls, cardio machines, cables, and much more to offer. The staff here are very friendly, I enjoy coming here and highly recommend this gym to whom ever is looking for a gym membership.

Being a part of the In Shape family, while brief, was a blast. The Oswell club quickly became my second home, the facility is staffed with some of the kindest, most memorable people I’ve met. Each and every one of them gave the club their hearts, and showed care and concern for all the club’s members.

Wonderful customer service… Equipment is very well maintained… facility is always clean, including restrooms which are always stocked… Sanitizers readily available throughout to clean equipment between users. I would recommend this gym to my friends/​family.

Horrible place. Where do I start… For one the parking, it is difficult to find parking between 3 – 7 pm. Once inside the gym, all the machines are usually taken by idiots that are not even using the machines they are busy posting selfies on social media websites. The staff there are so unprofessional. Needless to say, I’m happy I cancelled my membership.

I am very impressed with In-​Shape on Oswell. They are helping me achieve my goals with the fitness consultation that was free and worked with my financial situation as a Disabled Veteran. I can’t say enough about Sam in the Fitness Dept., he really cares and worked with me.

I had been wanting to go back to the gym for a a long time. I finally said «I am going to do it» and I joined In-​Shape on Oswell. I will admit that I was not sure what I was doing.
I met with Omar and had my initial training session. I left the training session prepared for what I thought was going to be my workout routine. I decided that after missing three days after joining that I would sign up for personal training sessions. Omar recommended Matt to work with me. Not only am I happy that I signed up for personal training, but I am also happy with Matt as my trainer.
Matt is professional, knowledgeable and patient. He takes the time to work with me as I perform each exercise. I have observed him doing this with other In-​Shape members who are his clients.

This is the In-​Shape I most frequent. I love the classes there and the instructors have been great! I downloaded the app and am always checking to see what classes they offer to plan my workouts. I’ve been meaning to do more – but so far I dig spinning and body pump! If you take a class make sure to get there a little early to set up and get a spot in the room. Sometimes they are packed. I have noticed that other gyms in Bakersfield, that are probably more popular and newer do have better class equipment-​like weights and bikes. This is slightly irritating.
No, the gym isn’t that big (compared to others in town) but I’m always able to find a machine and the weights I need if I’m not taking a class. The workers are nice and the gym is clean. Plenty of TVs too in the cardio area. The free weight room is out of sight, which is nice. There is also a circuit area and women’s only workout area. Lots of areas to switch up your workout routine!

I gave this gym a shot because I saw that they had a Body Pump style class (Butts & Guts) followed with yoga on Monday AM. The first thing I noticed was that this gym was way smaller than the other ones that I had been to. I got to the class about 10 minutes before it was supposed to start and barely got a spot. It was definitely an excellent class, so I could see why it was so packed! I loved how there were two walls with mirrors, so if you get a sweet spot you can check your posture from both angles.
The next part drove me crazy. The yoga class was scheduled to be in the same room 10 minutes after. The spin instructor, who was using a different room, zoomed in to take the wireless mic/​stereo system because the one in the room she was using broke. I heard her talking to the previous instructor and she said that the front said they didn’t know what was wrong with it, that the didn’t know when they were going to fix it, and that they didn’t have another one, so to take the one from that room. They must have forgotten that they had another class in that room. The instructor came in, trying to figure out what the hell happened and was obviously frustrated because they took her mic/​stereo system. We did the whole yoga flow, not in silence, but listening to the crap music in the background being played by the gym as well as random machine noises. Seriously, how difficult or ridiculous is it to have a back-​up wireless mic system? They’re not that expensive compared to the thousands of dollars a single weight machine can be.
Anyway, other than that distraction, the yoga was okay. It’s very basic and you don’t end with inversions like you’re supposed to, but the instructor flowed very well. I’ll be honest, I’m super confused why they were using two mats because you can do everything you need to on one.

This is my home gym, hate to see it this way. Locker room dirty again, good thing I checked before I sat down no toilet paper, steam room doesn’t work today. Every thing else acceptable.

Avoid! They will tell you whatever they can to get you to sign up and then change after you’ve signed up. Sometimes they slack on keeping up on the rules, like letting the little kids swim around in the pool. Their customer service sucks, especially in the upper management area.

I come here to get my work out on. I’m lucky enough to be able to come during the slow hours so I don’t have too many people in my way. It’s nice and pretty clean here, everyone’s nice, and all the machines are functional. They have a room for different classes (Zumba, a geriatric class, hip hop dance class), there’s a cycling group room for their classes, there’s a room for women but they cant legally say its just for women but you can tell; thats where the women go that prefer to work out around just women. And there is one other room that you can tell is mostly catered to men; this is where all the heavy iron and free weights are, but of course male or female you can work out wherever you like. They have lots of weight machines, free weights, elypticals, bikes, treadmills, yoga mats, and mirrors to check yourself out lol The treadmills, bikes and elypticals all have the tvs connected to them, as long as you continue to move you can hear it with your headphones (if you don’t bring your headphones you can read the caption on about 12 different tvs). There’s also a tanning bed, steam room, sauna, and swimming pool. The shower, toilets, and changing room are all located in the locker room. You can reserve/​rent a locker of just use any free one but you have to bring your own lock. They have plastic bags for wet or dirty clothes in the shower area. If you need a trainer they have plenty. Water fountains are located all over the gym but they also have water bottles for sale, sports drinks and protein drinks too. And of course what gym doesn’t have their personal stuff for sale-​towels, shirts, hats, shorts etc.
