First impressions really matter! First impression was the final decision for me. I had another place in mind for my test but they stopped answering their phones for some reason. First thing I did was look for another place on Unilocal.BOOM! ENTER Advanced Smog! The moment I walked in I was greeted with a smile and genuine welcome (which in Bakersfield is a very rare quality on a weekend that people work) so I was taken in immediately. It’s unfortunate that I found this place on a Saturday at 10:30am, but fortunate because I got there at 11am, they were more than happy to take me in for the test without any issues. I had mentioned to the very nice woman that I’m there to test as she explained to me that it wouldn’t take much time, I signed my paperwork. Fast, friendly, and definitely coming back and recommending anyone that is looking to smog test their vehicle.

Advanced Smog & Legal Performance is top notch in service and has been every single time I have had to come here. I have two cars that are 2006s and each time I had to smog them for my tags I’ve used this business.
The customer service you receive is always warming and their waiting room, if you choose to wait, has comfortable chairs and they offer coffee, I believe it is Kuerig. The receptionist always explains to people the issue (s) for their car not passing in the most direct way. Even when customers get a bit irritated because of course this means they have to fix something, she keeps calm and never changes her tone of voice. Another great thing is that they offer advice on ways to get parts for cheaper, like going to a junkyard or to a local part store to check prices. When you provide your customer with options and not just, «This is wrong, this is the price to fix it and that is it», it changes the whole perspective of the customer about 99% of the time.
The turnaround time for the Smog each time I’ve been here has been no more than 15 – 20 minutes and as few as 10 minutes that is fast compare to other places I have used in the past. Not only that but they are located right by the DMV on Schirra Court so you are not running across town, hit both places in one drive, literally. My mechanic is next door to them too, Independent Nissan so that is a huge convenience for me should I ever need a second opinion should an issue arise with my car not passing smog.
And there is a coupon they have on their website for $ 15 off, that is awesome! I always make sure I print that out and bring it in.

Found this place the other year, I probably called up every smog place in town for estimates, and they had a great deal for $ 43 with their online coupon. Fast forward the other day when i needed another smog check and i didn’t even consider any other places. I was prepared to pay $ 58, but was pleasantly surprised to find they still offered a $ 15 off services coupon on their website. Even without the coupon, i like coming here for the friendly and quick service.

Was in and out in 45 minutes on a Monday morning at 8 am. Friendly lady at front desk.

Not impressed. Paid 400 bucks for a repair that didn’t take. They wanted to do all of this maintenance to «see» if it solved the problem. Still have the problem. Enough said. Pricey and not as knowledgeable as they lead you to believe. Never again.

The staff at Advanced Smog and Performance are very friendly and always greet you with a smile. The service they provide is always done in a timely manner and there air conditioned office/​waiting room is always nice and cool. You won’t be disappointed as this business is absolutely an A+++. Quick, easy, nearly stress-​less.
To reiterate what others are saying, they make smog checks easy (granted your vehicle doesn’t warrant repairs — which I can’t comment on because I didn’t need any). They are priced at 58 $, 43 $ with coupon. They send your results to the DMV so make sure to bring in the paperwork/​notice the DMV mails you. I recommend you come in at 8 am to bypass the crowds; I did so without appointment on a weekday morning and I was out and about by 8:30 am. Customer service didn’t really pop out for me but they are fast and efficient so I didn’t mind.

I came for the same reason everyone else did: the dreaded smog check.
This place made it so easy. Walked in on a Friday afternoon and was set up and out in 20 minutes!
They accept the online coupon over your phone, so make sure you print it out. Regular without the coupon is 58 but I walked out the door paying 43.
Friendly and fast service, I’ll definitely be back when the time comes.

Great company to do business with there was three people ahead of me to get their cars smog and it only took 25 minutes for me to be out the door and the price is great also their coupon online even better

Needed to smog my car so I called a few different smog shops. Some quoted up to 70 bucks with up to an hour wait. Luckily I saw the Unilocal review for this fantastic place. There was a 15 dollar off coupon on Unilocal which the shop honored. Carol was friendly, and had my car out within 15 mins! Out the door 43 bucks and they electronically submitted to DMV. This place is a great, professional, family business. Highly recommend. Don’t bother with other rip off smog shops that will fail you just to retest your car again.

I was in and out in 30 minutes. 30 minutes!!! I was so so so happy and the ladies at the front was super helpful. My registration was due that same day and well when i drove by the dmv it was packed. I asked the lady if it would electronically update and she said yes but to give it a while to update in the dmv system. I waited about 30 mins and paid my registration online.
Oh use the coupon! 15 bucks off your smog. Seriously this Place is amazing!

$ 15 off coupon for smog check on their website! Super friendly, fast, and reliable. They don’t over charge for a smog test, their techs vary in experience and the owner who runs the front counter assigns the jobs accordingly. This was the second time I had gotten my car smogged at Advanced Smog and I have been pleased every time. I had the coupon on my phone and not printed, they accepted it. I didn’t have to wait hours, I was in and out in less than an hour. Makes you not dread having work done on your car (even though, yes it is just a test). Test is sent directly to the DMV. No paperwork and no need to go to the DMV!

We had our oil changed and driver’s side wheel bearing replaced today. Start to finish was a 2.5 job, and Raul even came out to show me the worn part. The loud spin cycle sound has been replaced with a sweet, quiet ride. He was even able to save the hub and save us some $$$. We have taken our cars here for 8 years and we forgo the dealer’s shop to do so. Honest, straightforward service and personable customer service. I highly recommend Advanced Smog and Legal Services!

This place was great! I went early on a Saturday and they were able to take me right away. Smog check is $ 58 for most cars which seemed pretty good for the area. Customer service was great, I chatted with the woman in the office the entire time my car was getting checked out so it didn’t seem like a chore at all getting this done. They seem knowledgeable and honest. Would definitely go again!

Customer service was good, giving thoughtful advice and understandable explanation. They did the smog check as promised, with the discounting coupon, and were willing to test the vehicle twice, since it was so close to passing.
The only downside of this place is that when our car failed, their estimated cost of repairs seemed quite high compared other places. The cost of the part they would order was about 6 times the price of the part at Pep Boys. We ended up going elsewhere to fix the problem in order to save money, and we came back to do the passing smog test (the re-​test was discounted).
Overall, a very solid place to get a STAR-​certified smog test, though it could get expensive if you actually need work done in order to pass smog.

Easy, quick, and pretty cheap with the online coupon. No one likes the hassle of getting your car smogged, but this place is relatively hassle-​free. A little out of the way for me, but I’ll be back for the service and price if need be.

It was my first time here, and of course… you’re here… because…of the wonderful world of the DMV.
It wasn’t hard to find, it was right next door on the left side of the DMV, and Shell Gas station, I didn’t even know there was a gas station there. Weird.
Anyway, I came here because obviously, I need a smog check for my lovely vehicle. I came in, told the Lady I needed a smog check, gave her my DMV paperwork and off she left.
I came here because of the reviews, and… the coupon! who doesn’t love to save a couple bucks?! I could tell this is a family owned business, with their family photos hanging in the wall.

The wait, …there was none! 30min, tops! Yes, I timed it. and YES, I asked how long the wait is. I don’t live in this town no more so everything I do when I come to town, it’s personal business and lots of errands to do! The whole time I was thinking my car was NOT going to pass smog… great, another set of my problems.
However, 30min later… it PASSED! The first time they told me it failed, but they did it again, JUST to be safe and be sure, it passed! YAY! Man oh man, I was ever so thankful for that, and they didn’t charge me. That’s customer service my friends! They damn well know that you are frustrated from the DMV, and they too are just trying to make it that much easier for you, and yes my Unilocalfam they did that for me.

I’ve been here a couple of times already. Hassle free, quick service, and a great price on smogs. I used the coupon out of the phone book. They also have a website where you can print your coupon. The smog price out the door was $ 43.00. If you look around, you will see that is a good price. I will be a repeat customer here.
