Fresh salas, frijoles de la hoya – not from a can, juicy meats, aguas fescas, big, clean place, great customer service, over flow parking. Come here often.

I ordered a carne asada and chicken taco with meat extra well done. Also rice and frijoles de la olla! It’s simply delicious and the food is made right in front of you. This restaurant is extremely clean and the employees are very nice, polite and super efficient!

This place probably has THE worst parking situation ever! It totally holds me back from going here more often. Their food is good but not worth the parking hassle. The prices are decent($ 1.39 for a taco, $ 5.49 for a burrito) The place reminds me of a Mexican food in and out haha. Maybe it’s the colors or the set up of the place. I ordered a chorrizo burrito. The chorrizo was ok, not as flavorful as it should be. They have a salsa bar with onions, lemons, a variety of salsas and beans. yes. beans. It was very weird to see that but hey, kudos for something different. That station seemed a bit messy. I didn’t try the beans but their salsas(both the red and the green) were pretty good. I took a small bag full of onions mixed with cilantro for my burrito. #25/2016

I’ve been going to the Downey location regularly so I feel a little silly checking in and reviewing tacos el Gavilán but I’ve lately been addicted to Unilocal so I feel like I must review. First off they have really good tasty meat however I used to go here every week and I was the fattest I’ve ever been in my life and I know it was from here lol … I always get their quesadilla al pastor it’s really tasty and j love how they have an unlimited condiments and garnish area because I love my quesadillas with a lot of onions and limes … I also always order their nachos. It’s the cheap kind of cheese that you get at arcades and baseball games but that’s my favorite kind. At the Downey location tho I remember buying the guac for a dollar extra but here they just gave it to me. But I noticed business is a lot slower here too. But also I wanted to add that the cashier is not friendly at all … I said hello and thank you and she didn’t say one word to me aside from meat with the nachos… So I don’t think ill ever go to this location again

This place always hits the spot. I don’t come here on the regular but if me and my GF are having a movie night I’ll hit this spot up for a good take out meal. The place is very clean even though they’re always busy. The salsa bar is always stocked and fresh when getting it ready to go. It’s a quick bite to eat at a decent price.

Husband and I came by for their tacos and love how they have the condiment bar there for you to dress up your tacos. My favorite was the al pastor taco. We both work nearby, so we’ll definitely be back for more tacos.

Eat the Downtown LA location(Washington & Central Ave) once a week. Was exited when they built this location which is much closer to home Upon first visit to this new location, I was pleasantly surprised at how big and clean this close was both inside and out in the parking lot Service was great and fast, food was AWESOME(Chicken tacos and burrito), salsa bar was great but for me the best part was the unlimited beverage area. Who else has unlimited horchata? Highly recommend this location though parking is a bit of a challenge

Nice & clean restaurant. Not too crowded & tons of open seats. I ordered four soft tacos, two chicken & two al pastor. The food was fresh, delicious. You go to the cashier, look at the menu & order. The ticket prints out your order, then they make your food. They have a salsa bar with red or green sauce, lettuce & jalapeños. I was looking for the beans, however there was nowhere to be found. I feel like a minority here. I’m not the only Asian party here at this place. I can’t wait to try other things on the menu.

My first time coming here I was so happy to try this place out because friends was telling me that it was good so I told the lady cashier can I get 2 tacos pastor and asada With everything … Togo. Please. Thank you … So I got to my car and I open the back to give my taco a bite … And I found my tacos plain … Not even salsa. I really got disappointed about it cuz I love salsa I can’t eat with out salsa. So I wait on till I got home so I can put I least tapatio. Really bad service … Not a good experience for me.

Feast yourself upon free refried beans in the condiment area for your order. Add Spicy carrots, peppers, radishes and plenty of onions and best of all, it’s all free. And the tacos were very delicious and after packing on all the extras it was like I was having a gourmet salad. After I was done, I went back for beans… beans… beans…

I had never tried this fast food chain until they opened up a new location down the street from my house. I love a business that comes into a neighborhood and builds a new, modern, building in the area. The restaurant is nice and clean. Every time I’ve been in they have women on the registers and men cooking. Kinda funny. The food is consistent. Their Mulitas are tasty. At most places, I tend to lean towards the chicken, but their carne asada has a great flavor and isn’t fatty or chewy. That’s a big plus. The corn tortillas for the Mulitas are also good. I wish their burritos came with cheese. They are very on the plain side with just meant, beans, and rice. If you want onions or other additions, you have to add those at their salsa bar. Their quesadillas are okay… But they could do much better adding some more cheese near the edge of the tortilla. There is usually a good two to three inches of no-cheese-zone that is disappointing. If you want some decent food and want it quickly, this isn’t a bad place to go.

My cousin and his fiancé who live in the area had been wanting to try Tacos El Gavilán since it opened at this location recently, however it always seemed so busy. Today was the day they were going for it anyway and I got to come along for the ride. Take note: The parking lot is small and the place is very popular. There is a very good chance that you may need to go park off property. When you arrive you have a choice of a number of different meats prepared in different styles. My friends kept comparing it to King Taco. You have to ask for your salsa and they don’t have limes. they have chile verde & chili Rojo. They enjoyed it and seemed to prefer it to King Taco.

Truth be told, I feel like you can get better tacos elsewhere in Azusa. The reason why I would return here, is because of price and the salad bar. For under five bucks, you can get 3 tacos and garnish them with a bunch of options from the bar, esentially making a taco salad. Beans are offered as well, I ate two cups worth and was full for the entire day.

I consider myself a bit of a food snob, so please don’t get me wrong when I give this place only three stars. To be more precise, it’s more of a 3.5-star joint. I have heard that this is a really well-loved place by locals and tourists, alike. Apparently, they had to close the one in LA down because the lines of cars trying to get in were causing traffic jams. I think that’s kind of an urban legend, but I will admit, we had to park across the street at El Super because the tiny lot next to this place was full. The food was really good. The tacos are authentic and tasty, the quesadillas are legit, the other offerings on the menu are what you would expect to find at your local Mexican taco joint. They even have a small refrigerator stocked with flans, puddings and other Hispanic goodies you can take for the road. What I like best about this place, and is unique to this taco place alone, as far as I know, is that instead of topping off your taco with however many toppings they feel obliged to give you, they actually have a mini salad bar/taco-building station off to the side next to where you pick up your freshly-made taco. So, you get to put on as little or many piles of onions, cilantro, lettuce, sliced radishes, and mild/hot sauce as you want. That green chili sauce is the bomb, by the way. As my friend so poetically put it, for just over $ 3 dollars I can have a veritable taco salad piled high with greens, and a small amount of meat and tortillas at the bottom. I can’t vouch for the quality of these ingredients, and if you live in a Hispanic neighborhood with a local taco joint, you would be better off going there. But if you happen to be in the area and the taco cravings start to hit you hard, you certainly can’t go wrong with this place.

First time! Sunday 11:00am. The restaurant is huge and clean. Ordered Al pastor quesodillas $ 5 not including drink. They have a bar area just filled with sides: beans, lettuce, salsa, onions, Chile peppers, and more! Overall it was a great place to grab a quick yummy Mexican food.

This place opened up a few weeks ago. I was curious to see how the food was for awhile now. Well, tonight I was on my way to King Taco, and I seen this place had no lines, so I took a detour… I ordered a small drink, carne asada sope, and one carne asada burrito. The unlimited refill on drinks and an open salsa bar are two bonuses, but the food, was ok at best. I don’t know what kind of expectations I had going into to it, but the carne asada was bland. After finishing my burrito, forcing myself to eat it, pouring a side of cilantro and onions on it during every bite to give it flavor, I moved in to the sope. Not prepared well at all, meat, cheese sour cream. Nothing like the sopes at King Taco. I know to compare the two is blasphemous, as they are two completely different chains, but they do have a similiar setup. Lesson learned, will wait the 30 minutes at King Taco next time.

After seeing this place being built the past six months or so, I was wondering how good this place actually tastes. The main parking is pretty small, so you might have to go to the outside parking space behind the car wash and tire place. The seating area is the opposite of the parking lot: it is huge. Plenty of seating for any party size. The place is very bright and clean. I tried the carne asada burrito and also got a couple of al pastor, cabeza(head) and beef tongue tacos. I was very disappointed in the burrito. The burrito was was pretty small compared other nearby Mexican food places and did not impressed me. On the other hand, the tacos were fantastic. The unlimited topping bar proved to me that it’s better to get more tacos rather than a burrito. The tacos were full of meat, and tasted fresh and well marinated. The service here is pretty good. The wait wasn’t too bad, and there’s two topping bars so it isn’t too crowded there. The tacos are a must get here, and I think they need to improve their burritos before I can give this place one more star.

Expect parking to suck. Probably majority of the reviews here have something to say about parking. What can you expect. The lot is pretty small. I pass by this place twice a week on my way and home from school while it was in the process of construction and finally it was open and I decided to give it a try and basically the theme of the place inside is sort of like a fast food/in n out ish joint. Which is what I got an impression of. Ordered the asada tacos on the go since I was in a hurry. It was packed too and waited for about 10 minutes until they called for my order. On my way home I just dug through the bag and ate the tacos while driving and wow… I was not expecting those tacos to taste sooooo good. I love that feeling. Each time you take a bite into something and expect it to be mediocre in which it turns out to be completely opposite. Wish I ordered more tacos though. Anyway will be back to get more tacos and try other things as well.
