Amvets Thrift Store

CASH ONLY! No dressing rooms either so I had to make sure I really wanted it b4 I paid for it cuz all sales final! Lot was pretty full so might find it hard at times to find a spot to park. Some good finds but prices seem to vary on similar items.

I like that clothes is organized by color n the aisles are labeled as well, makes it easier if ur on a hunt for something particular. Negative is the aisles are a little small and when its crowded it gets annoying with ppl pushing themselves and their carts thru. the place is big tho so they have tons of clothes n house stuff.

Eh, well this place is a pretty big thrift shop… and has just a ton of clothes and toys and some electronics. And of course they have a junk pile of «nick nacks». But there were so many ghetto people… walking around and pushing other people… cutting people in line… pushing their baby strollers into other people’s heels and not apologizing… (yea I get that a lot of people who shop at thrift shops may fit that ghetto label… but at a lot of places I’ve been to, they sure don’t all act like that).
There can be some nice finds, but you have to be prepared to dig for them. This place only takes cash and they have 50% off specials almost every day… so it makes you wonder if they mark up the price purposely for that reason…
Oh and the smell that fellow Unilocalers are Unilocaling about is true… I would say that out of all the thrift shops I’ve been to, this would be the worse smelling… but if you try to keep on the perimeter of the store, you can usually avoid the smell or only catch a faint smell of it. The musky smell is from bad B.O. and the stuff that is sold there… kind of a nasty thing… make sure you sanitize all the stuff you buy from here!
Also the parking lot is almost always full and usually customers are walking away with their happy buys.
So in sum, I’d come here just once in a while to look for specific items. But other than that, probably would go to another thrift shop.

I have a love hate relationship with this store. It is one of the bigger stores I’ve went too, and in the past I’ve found some good deals there but this time couldn’t really find anything great just ok. So after looking high and low and found some decent items them came upon this perfect mod purse brought it up to the counter and just because the tag was on the inside and not attached (there was no handle to attach it to as it was a square purse) I was told I couldn’t have it. :-(That’s fine, I decided I didn’t want anything else I had chosen and went to goodwill instead and actually found better deals and things I wanted such as t-​shirts. At this Amvets they were 2.99 — 5.99 and at Goodwill 1.99. score! And be forewarned, they only take cash.
Guess I’m just being bitchy. But bitchy or not from now on Goodwill’s my store for vintage and retro gear.

ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED? I ran to amvets on my lunch yesterday and the parking lot was empty! I ran up to the covered glass doors and read the sign «sorry this store is closed» and was saddened to see the emptiness of the store! They’ve left! Anyone know if they are just moving, renovating, or closed for good? it’s so sad. it was a favorite of mine for many years

I pass by this building all the time. I just realized that it was a thrift store, a huge thrift store by a friend. She said there’s new hi-​end brands there, not that I really care about brands though. OK, well not all the time :)
Just this passed month I’ve ruined 3 of my favorite pants. My pipes on my Harley basically melted them. better that than my skin though. I normally ride wearing Dickies or jeans. So, my friend suggested that I go to this store & load up on Dickies. I said «that’s a good idea». Can’t go wrong buying durable, yet stylish (lol) work pants for $ 3 – 4.
I was so excited to load up on siz 30 – 32’s pants! So I get there and start digging in. OK, 36, 36, 38, 40, 46… dammit. where the f@ck are the 30’s.Sh!t load of Dickies, but no one wants to give up their 30 – 32’s Dam, either the gangsta’s died in these or gave it up haha. Anyway, I spent 2 hrs checking & double checking the racks, only to come out with 2, freaking 2 pairs and 1 was a sz. 33!
Anyway, I’ll go back looking for a broken-​in pair of cowboy boots jus for fun haha: D It’s kewl that they also have sales like 50% of the tag. Some items are almost free!

i 1^st discovered this back during freshmen yr of high school when i idolized courtney love (pre «celebrity skin» & her larry flynt stint) & dressed like her in her «live through this» days…
so me & my bandmate (we started a riot grrrrl duo… kinda like simon & garfunkel) always found our lacey babydolls here!
yes its kinda far from civilization but the gas & wear & tear on my hatchback was worth the crap & treats i found here…
the most important thing i can stress is that its close to the freeway & everythings color coordinated which is amazing when you’re looking for that perfect red dress to a wedding whose invitation strictly specifies «red attire».
not too pricey, but not too cheapy either…

I love this place. You can’t go anywhere anymore and buy t shirts for $ 1 or less. It Their clothes are of good quality. I have bought jackets and amazing sweaters for the winter/​fall. When I didn’t have cookware, I found great clean items at AmVets. Even when I needed decorations like pictures, baskets, tables, and vinyl records to decorate my apartment… I found them there. It’s a place where you have to spend time there and find the good deals. If you skim over things and hurry through, you won’t find as many great treasures.
My tip: go early… anytime before 3pm. And spend a good hour there and you’ll walk out with so many things. Also, when your there, always check the big sign by the entrance/​exit — they offer daily specials on certain tags. Like Tuesday, Green Tag’s are 50% off

This place is a hit or miss when it comes to certain things. I like it cause they tend to have larger sizes on some clothes (I am a big fellow). So that is a plus. Also they have a gangload of books (some are great some are great but all great deals). The only drawback is the people who shop there who have no class. I mean by pushing people to get an article of clothing. Getting a dirty look if you got the thing on the rack before they did. Also they do have a good selection of furniture, so in case you need to fill a room or apartment in a pinch you can find some good deals. Also one last thing is on certain days the parking sucks but in that same parking lot you will find a taco truck so a win lose situation.

Nothing compares to the incredible collection of thrift stores back in my old burg. You can walk down Main Street and hit store after store after store, brimming with fantastic secondhand junk. Unfortunately, the thrift stores near my new digs are sad, pathetic and massively picked over. And the prices! Holy Jeebus!
The only thrift store around here that even comes close to the great ones back home is Amvets. It’s big, well-​stocked and the prices aren’t too ridiculously high. You definitely can find some bargains at this place, if you look hard enough. I bought two pairs of perfect Levi’s 501’s for $ 5 and $ 10. I also got a whole boatload of great VHS tapes for next to nothing. Yes, I still have a VHS player. Shut up.
Amvets also smells like a thrift store should. You know, that unhealthful aroma of mold mixed with B.O. Check it out!

I’ve been coming here since the 1980s. Back then you used to get some SERIOUS deals. Now its kinda hit and miss. Stuff is priced to move — however they will try to get top dollar for some things that they think have value. But usually, they are WAY off mark — they jack up the price of useless shit, and underprice some of the more valuable stuff. They really dont have a clue about the value of lots of the crap they get in — they obviously are no experts in the pricing department.
We still get some good deals here from time to time. Yes the workers are incredibly rude, as are the customers. Its amazing to me that people actually let their kids roll around on the floor — the place is filthy and a hotbed of bacteria, grime, and germs.
All in all, its still a cool place to look for treasures. Just bring some hand sanitizer with you.

im torn with this place, i find tons of stuff here but
the staff are douche bags and look at you like you’re in THEIR way when the rudely put clothes on racks near you
and some of the people here are morons they take their stupid carts down these aisles and you can’t get past them.
no dressing rooms so you gotta either try it on over your clothes in the store or guesstimate if it’ll fit you
i dont know where they find these rude ass employees but if wasn’t for that i’d probably go more often

#1 Don’t push your cart down the clothes aisle. No one can get past you, dummy! And can you tell your kid to stop rolling around on the floor? He’s in my way!
#2 If your gonna let your kid wear that ugly Cinderella jacket around the store, tell her not to go outside cos the security tag keeps setting off the alarm.
#3 Why are books priced at $ 19.95???
This place is just bonkers. Always crowded, even first thing in the morning. I’ve found some okay stuff, but no ulitmate treasures. The annoyance factor cancels out the thrill of finding something neat.
Don’t go here when you are PMS-​ing or bad things will happen.

I learned about this place through my friend and we both decided to check out the place. It was crowded and we had a hard time looking for a parking. I am looking for some pyrex bowls and sure did find some. The price is reasonable and bought some candles too.
Lots of stuff like clothes, house décor, bikes, watches, shoes, books, toys, cabinets, and drawers etc.
It’s nice to check this place every once in a while. Just hope they would lower down the prices,

I been coming to This ThriftStore since I was 7 now 36. It’s ok but they get A little bit carried away with there priceing there. When they have sales they seem to say everything in the store but red tags 50% off. Guess what alomost everything is red in the store. It has great stuff in there but A lot of changing tags around there. I also like the Community Thriftstore on ArrowHighway just east of Grand ave. There good but very rude employees there. Both Great stores. I like community a little bit better for this area.

Not great. It was recommended by a friend of mine but it was pricey, by thift shop standards. No dressing rooms, two mirrors in the whole place. Would not recommend this thrift shop to anyone. Sorry Amvets :(

This is not a great thrift store. I would suggest going to the goodwill that is less than 5 miles from here. I went in to this thrift store and its over priced. They had a 50% off on all tag colors except blue, don’t know if this is the norm, and it seem like all their tags were blue. Even with the 50% off everything is expensive for a thrift store. Another point about this discount is that it doesn’t apply to baby clothes and when I asked why they said that baby clothes are considered accessories, tell me how that makes sense. Last time I check babies weren’t considered accessories! My girlfriend, a friend of ours and I love thrift stores, but we all agreed that this is not one we want or will come back to. Save your thrift store shopping for another spot!
