Place rating: 1 Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA
The camp staff is courteous and polite, but almost criminally incompetent. The camp itself is run down and in poor repair. They advertise being able to accommodate 200 campers, but manage this number by cramming 80+ beds into a room the size of a classroom(see my photos)… I doubt the Fire Marshall has seen these rooms. We came here with 120 campers, and the pluming has barely been able to keep up. When we were told that the camp could accommodate 200, we assumed(reasonably) that those 200 would be able to go to the bathroom and take a shower… Wrong. We occupied one dorm that they said would fit 88(see photos), but had only four toilets(so long as all four were working) and four shower heads. I asked for porta-johns and a supplemental shower trailer, but they never materialized. The area where the Ropes Course is located is not casual walking distance from the camp and when we got there, we discovered that there were no porta-johns there either. Throughout the course, we had to use personal vehicles to shuttle people back to the camp to use the restroom. The Ropes Course itself is very motivating and fun for all the participants, just not worth the headache of dealing with the camp’s administration. We will not be doing business here again and we will be finding a different camp to attend next year.
