Once Upon A Child

Was not even greeted when we entered, were told wasn’t taking winter and that I would need to wait while they went through it. The store is congested and made me feel claustrophobic. Other Once Upon a Child’s have nice play areas for smaller kids and they also post on their door what they are looking for and what they aren’t taking. This could have alleviated a lot of hassle. They told me it was posted on their website. I was told most of my things were too worn. Funny enough the things I did look at while waiting were very worn and actually very gross. I would have not even brought the level that they were trying to sell to the store.
It seemed like the entire intent of asking me to stay was to belittle me while they looked through the things. All in all a bad experience and they clearly aren’t up to the standards of other Once Upon a Child’s. Not friendly, not easy do business with and the store lacks any appeal to shop there. Why would you shop there? I won’t ever go back.

I had a bad experience selling clothes here. They make you wait even though you were there first. It seems to me that they don’t value sellers. Well I’m not going to be a buyer either. Need to have respect and treat everyone the same. Just plain rude! And you don’t get much for new or used clothes. A brand new jacket $ 50 with a tag still on it-​attached, they gave me $ 2 for it.

Rip offs. They give you so little for gently used and like new clothes. Most of their items were dirty as well.

As a seller: Sell your items online or at a yard sale. The Avondale location won’t give you much of anything for name brand. As a buyer: for being so picky with my name brand, clean, hardly worn, nice items their store was FILLED with raggedy clothes, broken toys and was way overpriced. This store is no different from goodwill as far as I’m concerned. You may get $ 1 or so for your items but they are clearly over profiting. Ronald McDonald houses/women’s shelters are a good place to donate if you don’t want to sell. No one gets money but the children will benefit.
Oh, they want you to bring your items in bins. I did and still got bitched at about it. Too large. They also had me there for over 2 hours because they were allowing others to be serviced even though I was there first. Bossy, sassy, attitudes work there. My time, my money, my items all wasted in a first time visit. Out of approximately 250 lbs of clothing I was offered $ 50 bucks. Since I know they will be reading this here’s a word of advice: treat people better, respecftul and don’t take advantage.

I wish I hadn’t gone to this location first. I took several large toys (Crayola activity desk w/​stool, Little People car tower w the Big Zig truck and several lil people cars, big Fisher Price Incrediblocks w peek-​a-​blocks, four Lego Duplo sets and a couple others) and two big bins of clothes there to sell last week. They accepted all of the toys and a bin full of clothes. They paid me $ 51. I had been hanging out w/​my three kids for the entire hour they were going thru my items, and I had lost most of my patience and didn’t realize that was not a good offer. I took everything left of the clothes and the two things they said they had too much of (a small bouncing ride on and a Mama’s n Papa’s seat) to Kid to Kid in Peoria and got $ 45 for the gear and the same size bin of clothes. Then I went to OUAC in Surprise and got $ 43 for a bin of just clothes. I think I got ripped off by this location in Avondale. Also, I’m not blowing my own horn, but most of the stuff I take to sell are from Children’s Place, Crazy 8’s and Old Navy and all clean, neatly organized and in overall great condition, several sets too. I understand they might be full on certain sizes, but most of the stuff you see in their store is old, worn out, dirty, and mismatched. I will always make OUAC in Surprise my first stop and take the least of my items to Avondale. The Surprise store is also less crowded and more organized. Better staff too.

Ok… So I went in there to sell some of my son’s clothing, they wanted to pay me a $ 1.60 for some brand new old navy Jean pants yet they will resale them for $ 10.00 and while searching thru their clothes I noticed gum in one of the jackets and vomit stains on other baby clothing. Who cares right… No… Apparently they will accept gum and vomit but they won’t take my sons clean washed clothing because it had pet fur… Which I might add I didn’t realize that was on there. In my opinion sell ur items on eBay or Craigslist. U will get more for ur money.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE! I was sold a Baby Einstein Jumperoo in March of 2015 and later to find out it was RECALLED in July 2013, that’s 2 years ago! I Called the store and was originally told nothing can or will be done about it. They wouldn’t take it back because RECALLED!!! The owner told me to call Baby Einstein myself and figure it out. So it’s ok for your store to sell recalled items but you won’t take it back because it was recalled??? The owner said «well now that you’ve told me it’s recalled I can’t take it back» They have my phone number on file and know exactly how much I spent ($ 50) but finally offered $ 15 back. All I wanted is for them to admit they shouldn’t have sold a recalled item and given me my money back. Do your homework Once Upon a Child and don’t sell recalled items.

Love love love love this place! I Barely buy brand new clothes or anything else new for my boys anymore!

I was really excited about trying this place out it was my first time selling clothes here.
They helped me right away and explain the steps in a friendly and welcoming manner.
My two stars comes because for it being a thrift store I sure did not expect them to be so picky! The outfits where in really good condition, mostly Carter’s brand, but if they had the tiniest snags, one dress had the smallest snag that could have been snipped, they wouldn’t except it. She even said she couldn’t except a dress because it was «out of style» for their store.
I had baby girl headbands, never worn just not in package, and the women explained to me that in order to take them they had to be pretty much new, like still in its packaging, I’m thinking to myself. Is this a thrift shop or not?
They also won’t take onesies and she explained that the only onesies they except are Jordan or Nike.
It just caught me off guard how picky they got with the items. I’m not really sure if I want to come back here or not… It felt a little like a rip off for everything they expect you to meet for them to even buy an item from you.

It is definitely clean and organized. The merchandise is WAY over priced. They charge double what you would pay at Other Mother’s, Goodwill or Savers. Zia charges less for movies.

Staff was very inattentive, when I walked in they were standing around talking and texting, finally said something to me and I dropped off my clothes, with a 1 ½ hour wait time. Came back 2 hours later to find the «buyer» outside going through totes in her car full of clothes and my processing not completed. The cashier told me she didn’t know how much longer it would be, so almost 2 hours later it was done, only after the manager got there. They are so rude, it was awkward just standing there and they not saying a word to you. If you want good customer service, go to the location in Surprise, I took what Goodyear rejected and they purchased all of it!

Disappointed in the service! No that great of a selection a lot of clothes were ripped and stained.

Clean and organized. Nice brands. Some upscale. Many have original tags & haven’t been worn. Employees are super helpful. Parking is easy.

They gave me a whopping $ 2 for brand new shoes and a brand new floatee swimsuit. Im going to Other Mothers from now on to sell.

The store seems to be cleaner and less cluttered than a few months ago. The overwhelming 2^nd hand smell didn’t knock me over when I opened the door. I was greeted by an employee as soon as I walked in and asked what I was looking for. When I told her, she pointed me in the direction I needed to go. Unfortunately, the prices are quite steep for 2^nd hand -$ 3.50−4.50 for a used Circo shirt or shorts from Target? Um, no thanks! I’d rather buy brand new for $ 5! I’d give 5 stars for service but lost 2 stars for seriously overpriced merchandise!

As a regular customer at this location, I was extremely disappointed yesterday by the store owner’s customer service skills. The staff was very friendly and helpful and then the owner came in and was incredibly rude to me about some clothing that was out of place.
I am a regular customer, I go once or twice a week and I think it’s sad that the staff apologized for the owner’s poor treatment of a customer.
They have lost my business for good!

The staff was very inattentive. They were standing around talking and didn’t greet me when I walked in. They really should work on their customer service skills. The cashier seemed like I was bothering her when I needed to pay for my items. The store is messy and crowded. The clothes, for being second-​hand, were kind of over priced. I will not be returning. I’ll stick to twice as nice or other mothers. They get two stars because they did have a wide selection of shoes for toddlers which most second-​hand stores don’t have.

I was not greeted when I walked in but I found the place not as messy or chaotic as the reviews I have read as mentioned. the place didn’t smell bad um I was in an out within 10 minutes it is really easy to find stuff. I did think some of the clothes were more expensive than I thought they should be. when I went to check out the stuff was really nice, but they did talk a little bit too much about their work schedules and things like that rather than check me out right away. honestly it really wasn’t that bad and Taren who check me out was really friendly made me laugh and I had a really good experience I will definitely comeback

I like shopping at stores like this for a few reasons. First and most obviously, the prices are usually lower than buying new. This store is sometimes the same as buying new if you catch another store having a good sale. Second, I like that there are multiple brands in one store, so I get a better selection. Third, recyling is good =).
This store is usually pretty clean, and the have a decent selection on most days. I once went here on a clearance day by accident and will never make that mistake again. My main gripe for this store is that their prices are quite a bit higher than comparible stores like Other Mothers. I wish they gave the option of a higher purchase price for items you are selling to them if you take store credit. I end up spending my money I get from them on more clothes anyway. I know other stores usually offer a cash amount or a store credit that is 20% more than the cash price. Not here, it is cash only and not much at that.
