History

Established in 1998.

Walking Mountains’ mission is to awaken a sense of wonder and inspire environmental stewardship through natural science education for school students, families, residents and visitors. World class environmental learning center is a treat to explore indoors and out. Beautiful Rocky Mountain environs with interpretive signage and trails throughout the campus. Open Mon-Sat, 9am to 5pm. Admission is free to the public.

My daughter and I went on a leisure walk/hike with Rachel Banfield on Saturday. She was extremely friendly, courteous, and professional. I have lived in Colorado for 15 years and learned all sorts of new things. I’m very grateful for this organization and for our guide. She loves what she does and we had an amazing time!

Get a hike in with the Naturalist Rachel the ornithologist. Great snow shoe trails. Great way to change up and learn while on your ski vacation. Kiddies will delight in the science center.

My 3 year old and I went to the pre-school program, earth keepers, today and it was amazing. Rachel was awesome! She taught us about Crows, Ravens & Magpies. There was a very well put together slide show of facts, an outdoor exploration, snack time, games and a craft. Honestly can’t believe we hadn’t gone before. We will be regulars from here forward. We LOVED IT!

Walking Mountains has so much to offer! The naturalists are knowledgeable and great with kids of all ages. The science center is absolutely beautiful with educational, interactive exhibits for children and short nature trails for all. Year round programming offers something for everyone at very reasonable fees, if not free. Whether you live here or are visiting, Walking Mountains is a must!!!

This is a must see and do when in the area. Rachel was our guide for the 2pm free nature walk and she was awesome. She was not only extremely knowledgable but made the walk very fun and interesting for my 10 year old son. We will visit again for sure. Great for families and all ages.
