Tuesday’s Child Shoppe

I would never consign with this shop again. Super Shady! I stopped in to inquire about consigning, and was told that there is a $ 5 fee for them to make an appointment and look at my items. That stricked me as different being that any other consignment shops that I have dealt with have never charged to consign items, being that accepting items is what keeps the business going. Anyhow, I did not mind, I just figured it was a matter of them keeping the process of dropping off items organized. However, I found that after bringing my items in, that my theory was wrong. There is really no need for an appointment because they don’t even tag your items while you are present. Before I brought my items in, it was explained to me in a way that made me believe that they skew and enter the items in the computer on the spot, that is not the case at all. I was given a roundabout amount of what certain items would be sold for. I was not given a print out of all my items (even though I kept my own list) and a copy of the contract was not given either. Hardly a reason at all for an appointment to be made for that, and not to mention the few times I have been in the shop, I have seen only one customer looking around or no one at all.
After my items had been at the shop for awhile the time expired, and it was time for me to pick up them items, so I called to ask when I would be able to pick up the items that did not sell, and the lady (not the owner) the other one seemed like she was bewildered that I was actually inquiring about getting me things back. She even asked «All of them» and then stated that she had to call the owner and then call me back because no one has ever requested for all their things back. Excuse ME? they are My things, they didn’t sell, so the obvious thing for me to do would be to get them back. I am sorry, clearly I was not in a charitable mood if I was consigning the items in the first place, but if I wanted to go the route of giving them away after they didn’t sell, it would definitely NOT be a consignment shop, so they can pretend to give the items to charity, knowing good and well they will just try to sell them again either there or somewhere else. Anyhow the lady told me if I wanted the items back that didn’t sell then I would have to pay 50 cents a piece for each item. I told her that I was not aware of that, and I said I didn’t remember seeing that in the contract (which I did read) and she said they usually verbally tell people). Then later she said it was stated in the contract too. (Funny how they don’t give you a copy of the contract, like other upstanding consignment shops do.
I asked her what would they do with the clothes that I did not come to pick up and she said that the owner drives them to local churches ect. Yeah I bet. I said why would I need someone to drive my things to give away? I could give my own things away (and really know that they were given to someone in need. Tuesdays Child so charitable be yet they charge a 50cent fee for you to get your own things back!
The end result is I went to collect my items that did not sell and the lady sat 3 tiny black bags on the table, mind you when I brought the items in for consignment I had so many garments that I had to make several trips back and forth to the car and the load nearly knocked me down each time. I only made less than $ 60 but yet only had 3 bags of clothes given back to me. When I inquired about obvious things I knew were missing, there was no good explanation. NEVER EVER AGAIN! The lady that works there (not the owner) but the other was always pleasant but bad business on the owner’s behalf. If anyone is thinking about consigning anywhere my advice is, 1. read and obtain a copy of the contract you signed. 2. don’t consign with any place that can’t give you a copy of the things that you have consigned with their establishment. 3. Try to stir clear of a shop that has to charge a fee to look at your items that they may potentially take to consign and make money off of you.

I love this place, it’s clean, always has everything I’m looking for & then some. Always friendly & creative!

I congigned with this shop last year and didn’t have the best experience working with them. First, they make you pay $ 5 to evaluate your items. If they decide to take your items, they alone decide how much to price the item. I had a NWT Theory Dress that I found out she sold for $ 10. I later realized that she had no idea about designer garments and was catering to her Walmart clientele since the area is very blue collar. I had other high end items that she sold rather cheaply. A few of the items didn’t sell, and I had to pay her to give them back. She said that she charges this fee because of the work they put into tagging and pricing. I’ve dealt with other consignment shops, but never one this shady. Don’t sell with them. There are better shops in Westfield and Red Bank that treat sellers fair.

This is a small consignment shop with an excellent vintage/​other hat collection, some for sale some for inspiration only. Not a huge selection, but I found interesting jewelry, hair clips, rings and sunglasses. My friend found a cool dickies style black and pink waitress dress. I was going to wrestle her for it but i let it go! This place is off St. George’s Ave. Has a cute window display! Very nice funky staff. The prices are low.
