Aurora Hotel & Spa

We were beyond excited to head back to Catalina after being there in April 2016, but decided at the last minute to go back, so there weren’t a lot of options on hotels. I thought the price of Aurora was pretty decent as I compared it to the last place we stayed at while in Catalina, until we got to our room… the room was wayyyyyyyy too small for us, the walls were really, really, really thin so you could hear your neighbors coughing and the doors in the hallway being slammed at all hours of the night. They aren’t staffed after hours, so if you have a problem, you have to call management and wait for them to show up. I will say that the upper deck view is amazing, and the continental breakfast was decent. They have cheese and wine on Friday nights, and due to the fact that my husband and I couldn’t get there before they shut it down, they did give us a bottle of red wine. Our room also had a Keurig and a mini refrigerator, which is nice to have in Catalina so that you can go purchase bottles of water and stash your leftovers. Overall it was a decent hotel, but i don’t think I would stay @ this location again, due to the walls being so thin. If coughing neighbors and slamming doors don’t bother you, this place is perfect!

The rooftop deck is what sold this place to us, and it didn’t disappoint. My friend and I enjoyed a bottle of wine at sunset and it was great. Would be even better if they could get the heat lamp working.
Rooms are fairly small and the bathroom is smaller.
We had massages, which were fantastic! My only beef is that if you want to book two massages at the same time, they make you do a couples massage even if you aren’t a couple. And the couples massage is more expensive, so didn’t appreciate being forced to pay more just to get massages at the same time. Also, the massage room is just a regular room, so we could hear some other guests coming back to their room while we were in the middle of the massage. The therapist was quick to put a white noise machine on to cover up the guestroom noises, but just something to be aware of.
The breakfast was not good. Quaker oatmeal packets, a few containers of yogurt, some sad pastries, and hardboiled eggs that tasted funny.
No need to take the cab they offer from the ferry for $ 20. It takes less than ten minutes to walk «clear across town» from the ferry. You do have to walk up a hill for about a block at the end, but if you’re in average shape it will not be an issue.

Great massage therapists and rooms with amazing views. Comfy robes. Relaxing rooftop patio. Skip the breakfast.

Had a great stay at the aurora! Almost got stranded on the island since all boats were cancelled due to winds. Luckily Diana at the aurora helped us out tremendously, calling the boat companies and figuring out a helicopter flight off the island for us when that didn’t work out! Very helpful and we appreciated it! :) thanks Diana!

This is our 2^nd time to this hotel, and we really enjoy it a lot. I just wish the checking in process was a little bit smoother and faster, they have somebody walk you to your room. Although it’s a very nice, warm, and friendly gesture, I think we could find our room ourselves. There’s only three floors. Lol. Lol. Not a big deal, but they should just give us our room keys and let us be on our way. Lol. Love love love this place, we will keep coming back here!

This place was terrific. Our stay went perfect at this hotel, customer service was great, the room was nice and clean, the view of the ocean on the patio was absolutely beautiful. The breakfast was descent nothing to really complain about. Beds where comfy, robes made it feel like a nice relaxed stay. overall terrific. Will be coming back!

Came here for a birthday weekend retreat for 2 days. We arrived to the Catalina Island early in the morning around 11am we wanted to catch all the sights we could with the limited time we had on the island. They obviously didn’t have our room ready yet but they held on to our luggage while we roamed the island. The hotel is located up a pretty steep hill so get ready for a leg workout. The entire island is pretty much the same layout, lots of hills and walking. We spent some time on the hotel roof deck which had a great view of the island and water. They had a nice set up with chairs and beds for laying out. The rooms are small but really charming. My boyfriend booked the biggest room they had with a view of the water. It came with two robes and the bed is super comfy temperpedic foam. I just fell into a bed of clouds when I slept on that bed. We had a small balcony that was awesome. They have air conditioning and heating in the room. Bathroom is quite small enough for one person at a time. But you can’t blame them space is limited on this island.
We also had a couples massage done on our last day here. It wee amazing and so relaxing I fell asleep. The massage therapists were really nice and listened to what we wanted. It was a full body massage with hot stones.
I enjoyed our stay here and I would defiantly come back. They also serve coffee and snacks in the lobby.

Quiet atmosphere. Very accommodating staff. I was in corner room 13. Small br/​bedroom, and balcony.
Bed was comfortable for my needs.
I would have liked fruits, snacks avail 24 hrs. I had early trip out of avalon. I did partake in the «continental breakfast»
Staples offered. Nice if fresh fruit was offered or breakfast rolls in a warmer to accompany coffee.
I thought that the Aurora would have a «wow» factor.
Hotel is Nice and Cozy, fit weekend needs for sleeping.
5 stars for accommodating staff.

The absolute worst customer service ever-​because, they do not care about you, just your money.
The rooms are not only small, you can hear EVERYTHING. The walls are obviously super thin.
The rooms are absolutely disgusting, not high end, not classy, or chic. Just straight up dirty-​stains, spills, scratches, holes-​you name it! Pictures attached to this review.
How about breakfast, you ask? Cereal with no milk, gross bagels… thats it.
Do not book here, its a JOKE. The next night I had to leave!!! I went to a much nicer (and actual high end hotel) with a room you can actually walk in, a beautiful view, an actual continental breakfast, and a staff that knows how to treat a customer :)

Stayed at the aurora for my wife’s birthday in may. The accommodations are great. Staff was very friendly. Friday night we enjoyed some wine tasting in the lobby. The rooftop balcony was really nice. Great view of the water with a wonderful private feel. Best hotel we’ve stayed at in avalon. Will definitely be staying here for our future visits to the island. We had a great weekend.

This review is long overdue, my boyfriend and I stayed here back in February for our 4 year Anniversary. I have to say it was a memorable experience from start to end. I made my reservations through Richard, he was so kind and attentive, he even sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room and he assigned us a room near the deck patio which had an amazing view of the harbor. If I could describe this hotel in a few words, they’d have to be beautiful, cozy, modern, romantic! Best little getaway ever, also great customer Service, the front desk associate brought us complimentary orange juice for our mimosas during the day throughout our stay. We booked through hotel, ended up being a better rate then any groupon or travel zoo.

Awesome, and friendly staff. The roof top deck is a bonus, it allowed us the privilege of enjoying our breakfast with a ocean view sunrise. We arrived early and they allowed us to leave our luggage while we explored the town. They were very knowledgeable to recommend the best places to dine. We got the partial ocean view room and even at that I wouldn’t consider it partial. We watched the sunrise from our room and watched the boats and cruise ships come and go. The hotel is close enough but just a bit away from the Main Street to provide some seclusion from the noises of the golf carts and trolleys passing through.

The rooms were tiny, the service was horrible. I regret staying here. Disappointed. The people were deceitful. They lied about the rooms. They were also impatient with us and unwilling to grant us the basic services we were promised. Our room was tiny despite the fact that we were promised something much larger and the shower was just pitiful. The only enjoyable thing was the outdoor patio area.

I stayed at this in this hotel for valentines day weekend with my girlfriend, the staffs where amazing and so helpful. They always made sure everything was done right and genuinely care about your stay and made sure you had a comfortable stay at the Aurora. the view off the top deck was amazing. The manager Romero was awesome, he came through with a complementary champagne.

Just spent two amazing days with my boyfriend here. We were here 4÷2−4÷4÷2015. The room was pricier than I had wanted but my boyfriend made the plans and I was more than thrilled with this hotel. All the staff was friendly and personable. The hotel was clean, cozy and quiet. We took advantage of the free breakfast at seven am and we also enjoyed the Keruig machine available in the room. They also had wine, cheese and crackers around the late afternoon so we drank wine and spent hours talking on the rooftop until the sun went down.
The hotel is located on the other end from where the boat drops you off, and is also a small walk up the hill, all of this was no problem. I am convinced the price we payed was worth it and I throughly enjoyed my stay.
My boyfriend also left his wall adaptor and they are going to ship it to him, which was very nice of them.

Very cute hotel and I loved their rooftop lounge. The employees were very friendly. Got their best of winter package which includes Catalina Express tickets and a mid week, two night stay, great deal.
Breakfast left much to be desired (hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, bagels) but still a cute touch. I loved how the lobby and all the room had their own Keurigs, I actually used that a lot.
The hill everyone keeps complaining about it not that bad at all. Workout your legs, it’s good for you.
Staff held our luggage for us for a few hours before our boat docked.
Short walk from all the shops and restaurants but fyi it’s not on the main strip. Rooms are small, but I’m sure all the hotels are!

We just returned from a one night stay in Catalina at The Aurora Hotel. We were celebrating our 33^rd wedding anniversary!
Our stay at this boutique hotel was wonderful. Like others said, the room was small, HOWEVER, it was completely stocked with everything you would need. The room and hotel was very clean and modern, which is not always true for Catalina hotels. The bed was super comfortable, the rooftop deck with the very comfortable furniture is fantastic. Wow! I could have spent hours on the deck, drinking wine, relaxing and taking in the beautiful view. The staff was very friendly and helpful! They made us feel very welcome and comfortable! Although we only spent one night in Catalina, we felt like we were gone for a week… So relaxed and happy!
Thank you Aurora and staff for the wonderful hospitality! We will definitely be back and soon, I hope!

It is 15 min walks from the pier.(I heard that Aurora will pay the Cab fee for their guests). FREE BREAKFAST!!!
The wifi is free but it is not so good in our room.

Phenominal!!! That pretty much sums it up. First of all, the staff are pleasant, friendly, welcoming and incredibly accommodating. They had set up all of our island activities and added it to our bill, super convenient! We had an issue with our ferry tickets, before I knew it, they had it all sorted out without any headache! We were escorted to our gorgeous suite and was given a brief tutorial and introduced to the multiple amenities the room came equipped with. I had preordered a basket as a birthday gift, it was awesome and awaiting us when we arrived. Besides the amazing hospitality, the suite was über amazing. Bed was super comfy, which is a rarity in hotels, a gorgeous fireplace with a nice tv! Made for a comfy retreat away from home!

For our one year wedding anniversary, we decided to escape to Catalina Island since neither of us has ever been and we didn’t have time to travel anywhere further than to this little island that makes you feel like you’re a world’s away.
We booked our room through Expedia and got a decent deal. When we arrived on the island, we made the mistake of taking a cab to this hotel. After paying our $ 11.30 in cab fare for less than a five minute drive that’s probably a third of a mile away from the boating docks, we could have hoofed it with our one overnight bag on wheels and explored the main drag, lol.
The hotel is tucked away from the main street, but close enough for you to not have to use transportation other than your feet to get around.
We arrived before Noon and fortunately, our room was ready for us. I did read the reviews that the bathrooms were small, they weren’t kidding! This is a boutique hotel, so I did prepare myself in setting low expectations.
Kudos for the corner room, comfy bed and complimentary bottled water in our room fridge. The hotel lists spa in their name, but I noticed that the spa consists of a regular sized room on the second floor a few spaces down from our room that was converted into a room with a massage table. I wish we had more time on the island to pamper ourselves with some spa treatments, but maybe another time.
I’d recommend this hotel to other travelers, they have a self-​serve Keurig machine in the lobby with a water/​ice dispenser on the same counter, but the fruit laid out on the counter for the complimentary, continental breakfast didn’t look so appetizing (it looked a few days old and very ripe).
Five stars for the awesome rooftop deck on the third floor. We bought a bottle of vino at the nearby Vons and enjoyed the view before heading out to dinner. The hotel also sells bottles for less than $ 20 each, so if you’re too lazy to pick up a bottle yourself, just call the front desk and have one delivered to you.
