I always enjoy visiting Assumption Abbey when visiting our ranch which is near the abbey. That is where I go to get my jams and preserves, which are not made at this abbey, but are sold in their gift shop. I especailly like the ginger preserves and the marmalade made from Seville oranges. I wish they still sold the lemon marmalade, but not enough people were buying it. The jams and preserves are the real thing and made without high fructose corn syrup

Well, this Xmas I actually ate(some of) one of their famous fruitcakes. It is gooooood. Not amazing stellar out of this world good, but you do get the feeling that a human being actually made this thing. I say this is not the tipppy top of fruitcakes, because it seems like they use a lot of corn syrup in making it, which is not bad in itself, and they have to make a living, but the fruitcake is $ 30 — if you used simple syrup and charged $ 50 bucks folks will still buy it! I’ll be ordering another one next year.

Excellent fruitcakes, bathed in whiskey. This is ALL they make(a dark cake), and it’s NOT like 98% of all the fruitcakes out there. Don’t expect any candied cherries. I don’t know if they still do, but this is/was the fruitcake sold by Williams-Sonoma for many years(at a huge markup). Their website is VERY slow & due for an update in 2010. No telephone orders: web(credit card), snail-mail or Fax. 2 lb tin, $ 29.50(includes shipping)
