Waveform Austin is a facility in North/​Central Austin that has separate areas for photography studios and band rehearsal studios.

On the photography side, photographers can rent the photography studio by the hour, half-​day, or full-​day. We also have monthly membership programs. And where other studios charge an arm and a leg, our rental studios are super-​affordable and well equipped. For a full listing, pictures, and discounted rates, see our website.

On the music rehearsal side, bands or drummers (we have a drum room as well!) can rent the band rehearsal studios by the hour or sign up for the monthly membership program. I did a 4 hour shoot at their photography studio yesterday (12÷7÷15). It’s a compact, rectangular space with a makeup & changing area on one end and backdrops, furniture, and light fixtures on the other end.
The staff that I worked with were extremely easy to work with, accommodating, and quick to respond (and especially when trying to organize a shoot, this was extremely helpful!). There was no one else at the studio at that time, so there was no trouble with drummers/​bands in other rooms.
It’s affordably priced (I am a college student at this point so this is a must!), it’s at an easily accessible location (just off of Lamar), and have lots of tools available for those who are seriously considering starting photography.
Would go again!

Be aware that this review comes from a commercial photographer based in New York City.
This studio isn’t made for commercial advertising, and because of that, you should understand it has limitations. However, you cannot beat the price of Waveform, and the staff is friendly. It is missing some pieces of gear, but they are reasonably accommodating when it comes to solving your problems.
The noise from the surrounding music studios is substantially louder than I anticipated. I’ve been informed there are time slots during the week where this is not an issue. This may be my biggest complaint. If they could find a way to soundproof this, 5 stars. Oh, and pick up some flags.
I would shoot here again. I would likely not hire this space to shoot an ad job, but it’s great for test work or people just starting out with photography.
Much cheaper than hiring a studio in Manhattan.

My two experiences at Waveform Austin have been exceptionally wonderful! The first time was last April. I needed a place to do some product photography, did some research online and found Waveform. Owner Sean Mackie was very accommodating about scheduling a half-​day session for me, and at my request, arranged a professional photographer more familiar with studio lighting than I to assist me. The studio space, lighting and equipment are top-​notch, the lighting help was just what I needed, and I was very pleased with the results. On the second occasion, just this week, Sean himself worked with me to shoot a different product, with him as the photographer and me as the stylist. He was extremely professional, artistic and exhibited a great deal of care in his work with my product. I deeply appreciate how Sean runs his business, his approach and attitude, and his flexibility and patience. The pricing was very reasonable too! I highly recommend Waveform Austin and will absolutely return there to do more product photography as my business grows. Many, many thanks, Searn!!!

Can’t say enough good things about this place. Haven’t used the photo studio yet (but will soon), but the music rehearsal rooms are so top-​notch that it injected a morale boost in the band after months of toiling in lesser-​quality spaces around town. The engineer in the band (of course he’s the drummer) couldn’t stop talking about the design of the rooms, and the photographers in the band couldn’t stop daydreaming about the possibilities of the photo space. The fact that they provide backend equipment for very affordable prices is a huge plus, not to mention the overall affordable rates. Great staff as well — very friendly and laid back. Wish I could live there.

I had a membership in the drum room here for about four months while my band was between practice spaces. A membership like this is never going to be quite as convenient as having your own space, but I was very satisfied with Waveform. All of the staff members were friendly as can be, the equipment was in good working order, and the space is IMMACULATE. If you’ve ever been to a typical band practice space, you will be woefully unprepared for just how clean this place is.
More praise for their staff– on a couple of occasions I left gear in the room by mistake, including a music stand that I’ve owned for more than twenty years, and each item was retrieved and saved for me by the attendant on duty.

This place is great! Well equipped, and the photography studio was very clean. Great vibe! The owner took a lot of time to make sure we understood all of the equipment and showed us a wide range of what we could do! The prices are very reasonable, and the owner was very knowledgeable. I’ve rented lots of photo studios and Waveform is tops! The gear is great and in good working order, the space is clean, the price is unbelievably low for the value you receive, and Sean, the owner, is responsive and professional.
I can’t recommend this place highly enough, but I’m reluctant to write such a glowing review because I don’t want other photographers to find out what they’re missing!

I had a photo shoot here yesterday and it went really well. The studio was comfortable, with a convenient vanity, lots of backdrop and chair options, and a full lighting package. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this place — most studios are several times the price without equipment.

The price is just the first surprise of this studio. Clean, well-​lit neighborhood at night, safe for female models to park and come in. The studio is stocked on professional lights, reflectors, rigging system, backdrops, furniture, you name it. Russell, the man on duty, was very helpful, polite, friendly, and made my model and her manager feel as equally welcome.

We use Waveform Austin several times a month. There is no better studio in town! The guys on staff are some of the most knowledgeable and friendly people I have ever worked with. This is one company that takes pride in the services they offer their clients. The facilities are super safe, professional, clean and well equipped. Not to mention the rates are very reasonable and it’s very easy to book. Also, there is plenty of parking which is a huge plus. This is by far the #1 studio in town!

Tthe equipment and rooms are in glorious working order and besides it being the only pro level space for musicians north of downtown, the staff is extremely helpful and the have fantastic drum kits to play on for just $ 5!
Every fifth booking is free, which is great as a repeat customer, which everyone will be once they check it out.

Waveform is a great resource for Austin musicians. The rooms have quality gear and plenty of vibe. The location is convenient and they offer some good deals for booking regularly. Other rehearsal studios in the area don’t compare.
