Five stars for being the only place in Austin that had all the supernatural seasons! I luv video only had season 1 out of 10 seasons. I only needed season 5 for the time being but I’ll definitely come back here for their obviously wide selection. Supernatural isn’t that demanded, so I honestly was surprised they had it.
Come on a Wednesday if you can! It’s rent one get one free which was a perfect night for me to go rent 6 discs. $ 9 for 5 days for a whole season. So great!

My S.O. and I were moseying down the street when we saw Vulcan Video glowing in the distance, one of the only places open… we honestly thought we were hallucinating. «Is that a movie rental store?» «I think it is.» «What.» «Oh my God.»
We were floored by the sheer amount and variety of things they offered. I was super impressed by the foreign film selection. This place seems impeccably organized, too. It was such a pleasure to browse the shelves, pick out movies, and chat with the staff. The guy behind the front desk clearly loved his job. He let us know about the 2 for 1 special (Tuesday/​Wednesdays — even without the special, it’s very affordable) and was generally a delight.

Vulcan Video, you take me back to the days when I used to beg my Mom to rent me Bachelor Party, Hot Dog the Movie, The Last American Virgin and Revenge of the Ninja at my local hole in the wall video store!
In a world full of streaming and netflixing and vuduing and torrenting, you guys are the last hurrah for the true movie lover and I hope you never go away! I mean where else can one rent Adventures in Babysitting, La Haine and Savage Streets starring Linda Blair in one transaction?! Nowhere!
What makes this place so great?
1. The staff — almost all of them know their stuff when it comes to movies. Don’t know what version of Blade Runner to watch? Ask them and watch them fight like Roman Gladiators over which one is better and let the victor’s choice be your own!
2. Late Fees — These guys want you to come back and keep renting. So they offer an amnesty day at the beginning of every month! Are you a lazy slug that just can’t bring back movies on time and rack up $ 20 worth of late fees? Do you return them and never come back because you feel ashamed to show your face because of the debt you’ve racked up? HA! Vulcan be like «Aye mang! make payments on your late fees and we will still let you rent or better yet, just pay half at the beginning of the month we are cool!» You can’t even get this kind of patience and leniency out of God himself!
3. They’ve Got Trendy Sodas for Sale — No, really. They do. Give into your temptation.
4. 2 for 1 days — Yup. On certain days you can rent 2 movies for the price of one! Rent the entire Leprechaun saga in one transaction! Yes, even Leprechaun In The Hood!
There really isn’t anything to complain about. Except for whoever the punk is that hasn’t brought back Tales from The Hood! That movie is out of print and some shmuck still hasn’t returned it! There’s a special place in cinema hell for people like you!

Love love love Vulcan Video. They have a great selection of videos, snacks and other random stuff. If they don’t have something you want, ask to confirm they don’t have it and they will put it on their list and are really accommodating. They have a helpful computer that has a library search on it and their staff is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful as well. Vulcan video is my first and only choice when it comes to video stores!!!

I’m far, far away (Dallas)… But to continue with what I knew of the location I knew before… One can only assume this is still the tits. Shame our previous review don’t apply.

2 for 1 Tuesdays and Wednesdays? Great deal! And they have everything. Seriously, and if by the chance they don’t you can add it to the list on the counter and they will try to get it! Vulcan introduced me to so many things I would never have found on my own! Xena, David Lynch, Woody Allen, Spaceballs etc etc! I absolutely love their cult section, director’s wall and Dutch shelf. The employees are on the ball! So helpful, informative, laid back and always nice. Love love you Vulcan!

WOW. Wow. I am not a Unilocal Poster by any means, but I just had to give a huge shout out to Vulcan Video and the dude who helped me out the other day. Greg, I think? In any case, I had just come from another video store (not to be named, ahem) who everything was out, late, lost, what have you. They were not interested in helping my difficult search and only interested in their lunch and conversations. I was under a horrible allergy attack from the oak pollen and left not very happy, when I randomly remembered Vulcan Video on North Loop.
Upon entering, Greg quickly finished what he was doing, immediately found the three movies I needed, inserting interesting facts and trivia along the way and, seeing that I was not feeling well, quickly ran to get them for me, explaining why they were in each section, etc. I needed inspiration to write an insert scene for a feature film that I’m making and needed more films. He suggested a plethora of ideas, truly caring about my project and taking my request totally seriously. He knew every genre and film to an amazing degree and I left with a full handful of great suggestions for only 20 bucks and in a much better mood. Yay, Vulcan! Probably the best video experience ever, hands down. Thank you, Greg!

Okay, I am slightly put out that my review for their former location was deleted when they moved, so here are the main points from that review:
–I love Vulcan so much that my life goal in high school was to work here at some point
–they have the best selection of movies in town, including titles you can’t find on Netflix, period
–if you’re a film major, this is your place
–if you love animé or cult classics, this is your place
–they have 2-​for-​1 specials
–they tend to have a better selection of new releases than I Luv Video, though I Luv Video is also cool
–the new store is just as cool on North Loop as it was on 29^th
–aaaaand Matthew McConaughey is a fan. Take that as you will, alright alright.

These guys are awesome. Super helpful every time I’ve been there and have always had great suggestions when I ask for them. The conversation yesterday went like this:
Me: «Uh…I know this sounds dumb, but I can’t remember the movie… it’s very popular… horror film… great 80s effects… Crap.»
Vulcan gent: «Hmm…can you try naming one of the scenes?»
Me: «Yeah! It um… had a lady’s head coming off… actually, a lot of heads come off and there are all these crazy creatures. I know it’s got a cult following, but I CANNOT remember the name of it right now and I hate that.»
Him: «Oh! Evil Dead. Actually, the one you’re talking about is Evil Dead 2.»
Me: «YESSSSSS.»
If someone can name a movie simply from a single vague scene description… THEY KNOW THEIR STUFF. Mad appreciation for these brothers, and the 2-​for-​1 surprise deal (I went on a Wednesday night) didn’t hurt either!
I love Netflix as much as the next Millennial, but I don’t forget where I came from. Get off your duff and go rent a damn hardcopy movie like you did in the glorious ‘90s, ya hipster. :)

Vulcan video just spammed my apartment (complex) with flyers.
I don’t usually rent movies, but when I do, it will definitely not be from Vulcan.

I can ask for any movie here, for movie suggestions, no matter what I am interested in, and I will always get an enthusiastic, but maybe too enthusiastic, and friendly, but not too friendly reply. Unlike the people at I Luv Video on the drag, the folks here do not make a point to act like douche bags and give the customer the «You’re renting THAT?» look.
The people here are super knowledgeable and will even make suggestions if you are going for a theme.
Yes, I will be back here again and again and one of these days I *will* rent Gatorbait. Please don’t judge.

As mentioned in my tip, if you really are a movie buff establishments like Vulcan Video are a gem! It’s a great place to find some old time classics and I’ll add once again that the customer service is awesome!

The new Vulcan video store location on Northloop is hugely convenient and a wonderful Hyde Park resource. Great selection. Great hours. Prices and convenience are perfect.
Staff is very friendly. Call ahead and they’ll hold your video for you.
Selection absolutely clobbers Netflix, redbox, and Amazon prime.
Cheaper and longer rentals than iTunes.

Stepped into Vulcan for the first time in my 7 years in Austin last night, and cursed my procrastination immediately. Vulcan is like the video stores of old, crammed with the most wonderful, amazing, and terrible movies, all to rent for mega-​cheap. I’m sure this will become my go-​to place for hard to find and interesting stuff.
The section layout is interesting. One wall is for famous directors, and runs the length of the store. Comedy, action, drama, and new releases are all in the front of the store, but the back is where the best stuff is: cult, sci-​fi/​fantasy, horror, and an entire foreign wall. There are even mini-​groupings within a larger genre for specific needs (J-​Horror? Adult cult films?)
This is a store that has a great sense of humor and is filled with other movie lovers.
