First visit to this location. A few mix ups along the way initially with the drinks and apps. On another note 4 of us at a table were served 1 bowl of chips with our Queso, Guacamole and Salsa that was great but the chips obviously went quickly. They did not return to the table till our meals came and we had to ask for more chips. All in all very mediocre

Trudy’s is the best place for brunch in Austin. Delicious bloody Maries, and Migas on everything. I am never disappointed after brunching at Trudy’s.

This will be last time ever going there. Twice has happened where you drink to relax i had 1 ½ beer’s and they confused me with another table and said at my limit! ! While table next to has martini drinks shots and my 1 beer was at my limit ! Look at your cameras idiots i only had 1 ½ but i guess that was my limit. Table that got up had drinks on table everywhere! ! Double standard poor service you just plain suck! Again last time period! Very disappointed in the waiter and mgr and ruined what was suppose to be a good bday night for a family member! You suck! Don Darios will be glad to take my money.

The bartender was great! He’s was friendly and had funny jokes. The drinks the girl working with him made delicious drinks. I recommend the mango caliente Place kind of looked like a hotel restaurant but none the less cozy. Bummer they started closing at 9pm. I’d still go back regardless to support the great service this business has acquired.

I love Trudy’s and have been going for years, however, this is my first visit to this location. The food was good, I ordered Ciro’s Special and even though it was covered in too much queso for my liking, it was still pretty delicious. Chips and salsa were good, but served in tiny modern white ceramic bowls. With five people at our table we went through the small portion so fast and then nobody was around to get us more. The service here is beyond awful. Our server, Josh, acted as if it were a pain in his bum that we were even there. He did not know anything about the menu, he informed us he «didn’t really eat here.» He should probably still know what’s on the menu. He seemed very lazy, we emptied our chip baskets and then when we asked for more he was rude. We got our queso 20 minutes after ordering it. He walked by twice and saw my empty glass and didn’t stop to see if I needed another drink. He wouldn’t split the check and then we asked a manager he said«no problem, we can split that for you.» Will not visit this location again, looking at other reviews it seems to be consistently bad.

Good for late night mexican food. The atmosphere is lacking. It has the chain restaurant feel. But the food, drinks and service are great.

My 2 buds and I were in from LA for the F1 race and this place was recomended for this particular margarita martini, I’m game! Found this neighborhood type business, it had an outside patio and a sizable bar. I do have to say take one of the booths out! My gosh, that was the weirdest table I’ve ever sat at! I guess they were made for couples who like to sit across from each other and do that interlocking of their drinking arm wilst gazing into each other’s eye while drinking! THEYARETIGHT! lol Well, that aside I enjoyed the margarita served martini style… And the cute server girl! ;o)(note: I was also told that one is cut off of these drinks after 2… eh, I could have managed more for sure)

Just moved down the street and this has quickly become my go-to. Take in mind that I have never sat down at a table and ALWAYS sit at the bar itself. The bartenders are great. ESP love Cale & Mark. Wonderful customer service, great at recommending their favorites, and can pour up a great margarita. The food has always come out to my satisfaction as well. Try the green chile chicken enchiladas, tortilla soup, and the mexican corn on the cob. SIDENOTE: They have a lot of different drink specials depending on the day. After reading the other reviews, I will definitely stick to being a bar regular, it doesn’t sound like the other servers are doing so well.

My rating really has to do with service, so here’s my tale: I have heard folks mention Trudy’s in a good light, and I don’t get it. Maybe another location is better? We went for Saturday brunch, around 12:30pm. We sat out on the patio, seated ourselves, and we’re greeted in a timely fashion by a flustered looking guy with minimal politeness. Then like 3 other dudes came by as our waiter… I’m guessing they were helping? One guy took my cocktail to the wrong table, while another corrected him, then he grabbed my drink from the wrong table and back to me. Health code people! Once food/drink has been served, it stays there, or gets dumped. Gross. Our plates of eggs were fine, nothing spectacular, but still pretty good. I doubt we’ll go back.

Once again, I do not know what is wrong with all the managers at Trudy’s South Star. My co-workers and I come out here to get drinks and to eat all the time and the service is great, but for some reason all the managers are rude. Last night yet again we had an issue with the manger(Melissa) who was working at the time. She did not accommodate our party of 11. And last night one of my friends made the comment of, «why do we still come here? We always get treated like crap by the management.» We all looked at eachother and said because of the drinks. Our server Chris last night did awesome, and we also love the server Mike. Management needs to be retrained or something, otherwise they will be losing regulars.

The stuffed avocado is to die for — the best I’ve ever had! I’d give them 5 stars, but the service is almost always terrible!

OK, so we came here and the place does pack a lot of people in. I’ve been to a lot of Tex-Mex restaurants and Trudy’s really has gone beyond the Tex-mex radar. Their food is somewhat tasty but misses the mark on what Tex-Mex is all about. In my opinion the food is for all those people who are trying to discover the real Tex-Mex flavor. Now, I’ll give Trudy’s points for their drink menu but that’s where I stop giving them credit. Even the salsa tastes like it has all the ingredients except any type of chiles/jalapenos/serranos. Only one thing comes tome mind — that they want that market that’s still trying to find the true Tex-Mex flavor. Again, it’s only my humble opinion and nothing else.

I am Tex-Mex and believe this food is not! They are inventive and sometimes what they invent works but most times it is just fair to middling. I like their bar and the wait staff is great!

Big party? Don’t go here. I love the food, and usually have great service. However, if you have more than 8 people, they WILLNOTLETYOUPULLTABLESTOGETHER. It’s against their policy. Not even in the bar, and not even if you call ahead and ask the hostess. Sounds crazy, I know. Aren’t restaurants in the service industry? Isn’t that what automatic gratuity is for? Pretty lame if you ask me, because going out to eat with friends is a common occurrence for many people in Austin. Too bad for you, Trudy’s– especially since I love you!
