This is our go to spot for our monthly happy hour with friends. The food is always good and the drinks are delicious. You can’t go wrong with a trudys Mexican martini! We always come here and get seated fairly quickly. Even though there is a lot of people here the service is pretty quick. The food comes quickly after you order it. There is always a food special going on also. I usually get the enchiladas and instead of the enchiladas sauce I get their queso on it. Delicious!!! 4 stars though for a place that we come to all the time? The reason being is they tend to mess up before our food order, if we order something it usually comes in wrong but after we bring it to their attention they fix it for us quickly. The other day we ordered Dr Pepper and they said they didn’t have any? Which is weird because a few days earlier my friends came and they had it. Just a random side note. Overall it is a great spot and it’s our place to come catch up with friends and have good food and drinks!

Super popular Tex mex joint in Austin and it’s pretty clear why… Fun, tasty food, a great bar, and a fun ambience. It definitely has the vine of a chain restaurant but despite that I think the food is good. I found it lived up to the hype and would recommend it. I’ve heard great things about their Sunday brunch as well!

I have been going to Trudy’s for almost 20 years. The fid is always good and the drinks are the best. The servers are always friendly and the vibe is very Austin. I love their Fried Avacado and the Mexican Martini is excellent. They’re is a reason why they cut you off after two. Just make sure you have a designated driver if your going to drink! ;)

Trudy’s is one of my favorite Austin venues for dinner — I always get the stuffed avocado and a house mexican martini and my table always shares a nice large bowl of queso(which seemed to be smaller than normal but maybe I didn’t notice the size previously). We were here on a Tuesday night which was surprisingly busy. The server was good, but because she was busy we didn’t see her as much as we would have liked. Also, our seat was pretty crappy, we were put underneath the stairs which was not very nice… This place seems to have fallen off of their once amazing standard… My biggest gripe of the night was that I waited in line to have my name added to the wait list for seating and a woman came out of the blue, straight to the front to ask how long the wait was for her party of 15 and then got her name added right then and there without waiting in line — total disregard for the rest of us who had been waiting… typically this would be attributed to rude customer behavior and not be a negative point on the restaurant HOWEVER, the guy taking names was totally fine with it and seemed to welcome it. I attempted to let him know because the girl in front of me was as angry as I was about it but he didn’t seem to care much. I didn’t appreciate this very much… especially not after I was seated under the stair well in the darkness where we had to duck in and out of our table to avoid head injury… :0

I’ve been to Trudy’s before, but never tried their brunch buffet. It’s amazing! For $ 12 you can get heaps of awesome breakfast and brunch food. They had waffles, pancakes, muffins, and French toast served with their pecan butter. They also had enchiladas, migas, chilaquiles, chimichangas, chorizo stuffed chicken, veggie flautitas, hash browns, sausage and biscuits, fried avocados, pecan roast chicken, mashed potatoes, steamed carrots, corn nuggets, nachos, and fresh tortillas. They also had a salad bar where you could make your own taco salad or get a fresh wrap. They had a decent amount of desserts as well — flan, tres leches, pecan and coconut lime bars. You can also order as many tacos as you want from the server — holy cow! Their fish tacos were awesome, by the way. Our server was great — very attentive and polite. My only complaint was that the area we sat in was right under a vent so my food got cold almost immediately after sitting down. It was still good but not as good as it could have been. There is plenty of space at this location — the patio has nice heaters suspended from cables, they have an upstairs seating area as well as a ground floor area with a bar in the middle. We definitely enjoyed ourselves during brunch and will definitely hit up this great deal in the future. Try them out!

I came here after my last clinical… ever. SO it was definitely a cause for celebration. This location was chosen for me and I was told they had a great Mexican Martini which we all know is a margarita with olives in a martini glass, right. I wantd top shelf and she reeled me in and offered some«special Patron tequila» only offered there at Trudy’s. I didnt feel like asking more questions so I just said yes. $ 14 for a Mexican martini? it was good but I’m sure it would have been just as good with regular Patron or Herradura or Cazadores, Don Julio. YOU get the idea. The menu didn’t really appeal to me, can’t speak to it b/c I didnt order any food. Everyone else at the table did and they all looked pretty commercial to me. Would I return? maybe for a drink — but I would definitely clarify I do not want the special $ 14 tequila. for my real mexican food looking folks: the salsa is not hot.

I was blessed to visit Austin a few weeks ago for the very first time. My girlfriend’s brother took us here and I’m really glad he did. It’s got the cool Austin vibe I heard so much about. Our waitress was super friendly and welcomed me to Austin for my first meal. I forgot how great Southern hospitality can be. I ordered the Stuffed Avocado($ 11.50). I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was recommended and I’m glad I listened. It consisted of a fried, cracker crumb breaded avocado stuffed with spiced chicken and cheese. It had a wonderful, creamy sauce on top as well. I chose the black beans and it also included Spanish rice. I have to say, it was a flavor explosion and like nothing I’ve ever tasted. I would loved to have eaten more, but I wanted to save room for dessert too. My girlfriend let me taste her bowl of Mexican Tortilla Soup($ 6.00). It had chicken, avocado, cilantro, corn, tomatoes, and green chiles in a nice broth(slightly spicy). Of course it was topped with crispy tortilla strips and cheese and a side of rice. The broth was quite addicting. For dessert, we shared an order of Sopapillas. Oh my! It was my first time with those as well. They were large, puffy, fried dough with honey drizzled on top next to a large scoop of Mexican Vanilla laced ice cream. It sort of reminded me of a Mexican version of beignets(I grew up eating tons of those in Louisiana, so I am a huge fan of Sopapillas now which is awesome!) I will have to try and find these wonderful bits of food bliss back in San Diego. For a relaxed atmosphere to hang out with friends eating good food, and talking with friendly staff, this is the place!

This is my regular Trudy’s… and I gotta say I am a fan. I have been going for about three years now and typically the food and service is pretty great. On occasion I will get sup-par service, but not enough to keep me from coming. My girl Kayla used to serve here but has since moved outta town and I havent quite found a new waiter that meets her standards. I always get my Mexican Martinis on Top Shelf Tini Tuesdays. You pay well price for the best on this day. The meals I ten to get range from The Ciros Special, Chicken Fajita Burrito, and the Chicken Chimichanga. Atmosphere is always great and I love the upstairs/downstairs seating, as well as being able to seat yourselves outside.

Food is meh. I do like the happy hour strawberry margaritas. Interior seems generally unclean and unhygienic. I only go here if friends want to, it’s totally not my thing.

First off, I should remind you I love TexMex food. I love the food here. I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. We had queso and the fried avocado to start yum! And of course the chips and salsas here are amazing! For drinks, they had a special on the sangria margarita. It was only $ 4.50. It is a combination of two of my favorite drinks so of course I loved it. One friend had the mexican martini which I had to help her with since it is strong and a big drink. I’m a good friend! Haha. My main course I had the migas with chicken fajita, it was so good just a lot of food. We had zero room or dessert unfortunately.

Trudy’s — what is there to say about Trudy’s? So many things: 1. This Trudy’s is the place I bring friends from out of town to try Mexican martinis. Sure, I’m not a drinker, so I haven’t tried completing the Trudy’s trifecta(2 Mexican martinis at 3 Trudy’s locations) — but I sure have been the DD for several! 2. Brunch. Buffet. Cheap — tasty food — and my personal favorite, endless cheese enchiladas. BONUS, if you come after 12:30, they even have tiny fried avocados. YES, THEYDO!!! 3. I went to UT — so going to Trudy’s is basically in my blood 4. It’s a landmark. As a native Austinite, I like to wow people by explaining that«Trudy’s north star is about as far north as Austin used to go!» 5. I like Burnet. Burn-IT. 6. Is the food the best you can get in Austin, period? No. Some dishes stand out(cheese enchiladas, fried avocado, I personally love the Ciro’s special with queso on the side, the cholula honey chicken) — but you can definitely find a favorite here. To summarize: Trudy’s good!

This restaurant is pretty large and has this awesome outdoor patio that extends around the side of the restaurant with a tiki hut type cover on top and a bar outdoors. The Mexican Martinis are yummy and chicken quesadillas were great! Will be back for sure

Let’s just get this out of the way: I really do love Trudy’s. I had them cater my wedding. Seriously.(Which was also great. Another review, another time.) I’ve been to all the Trudy’s and consistently find this one to disappoint juuuust a little. The first time I went, I tried to sit outside because it was Spring and it was still nice out. We ended up leaving and going inside to get service, because it was taking so so so long. It’s fine, just not perfect. The service inside is great, by the way. Both times I’ve gone, the food suffered a similar fate. I love so many foods at Trudy’s: the red salsa, the smoked chicken enchiladas, the tinga nachos, I could go on. I still think this specific Trudy’s is a solid Tex-Mex place, but the food isn’t as good as the other Trudy’s. I’m not really sure why, but it’s just weird… because I’ve had this food at the south and central location and am OBSESSED. But here, I’m just like, that was pretty good. That’s pretty much my only complaint. I love their new menu! They have some really good sides now if you are tired of the ‘ol rice and beans(which they still do really well). Grilled zucchini, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, etc. Generally, I love you Trudy’s, I just have seen you do it better!

Markie & Manager Paul = Bad assness! Period. I haven’t been to Trudys in years, but after dealing w trash service @ a place across the street, we found our way over here instead. Sho musta been meant to be, because I am totally a Trudys fan now. It was late on Sunday, but you’d have thought is was early on Tuesday. They were just as pleasant, and inviting as could be. Markie was. She’s cool! Service was impeccable, food was DELISH, salsas very fresh and tasty(& spicy). Chips hot, drinks cold. My friend ordered the Seafood Parfait. It looked amazing, but it was not. Well we let Markie know it was pretty blah, so asked manager Paul to come talk to us & before we knew it, we had tableside service @ 1130pm. Paul brought out a plate of salt, chopped jalapenos, sone cilantro avocado sauce, some Chipotle sauce(which was way better than I expected), some limes & onions. We hand crafted our appetizer to some glorious shit! Idk if that’ll happen again, lol, but we told him to put THAT down in the recipe in the kitchen! Lol My stuffed avocado was perfect, as was my friends flauta plate. Great experience. I’ll be back.

Smoked tinga quesadilla review: If you like burnt onions like I do, and smoked, shredded brisket like I do, and quesadillas like I do, then this is a must try quesadilla. I’m not knocking the beef fajita quesadillas, chicken fajita quesadillas or the mushroom quesadillas because I’ve had them all and they are really good. I’m just sayin’ the smoked tinga quesadillas are my fav. At least this week they are.

What the hell happened to Trudy’s? Two years ago, I visited two different Austin locations and found my taste buds awakened with spicy delights. On this visit, I might as well have left my taste buds in the trunk of my car. They were not needed to sample a plate of enchiladas that tasted like wet cardboard. Granted, it was a lot of food for not much money. But you can get that at nearly any Mexican restaurant. The Mexican Martini is a damn fine drink with a nice kick. I had two. My server/bartender was very cool, cheerful and responsive to any request. But man… those enchiladas with«spicy beef»? Unacceptable. Considering I visited Chuy’s for the first time on this visit to Austin, I may be ready to abandon Trudy’s forever. Tsk, tsk.

What a tragedy. Our favorite Tex-Mex joint has turned the Mexican Martini into a joke. We used to order them with no glass, and the shaker was full to the brim. Now the shaker is only half full. For the same price. Even after asking the manager, we were informed that it’s all measured. Perhaps that’s the case, but I can assure you the you are now receiving less than 2/3rds the liquor for the exact same price. Huge fail Trudy’s. Huge fail. We’ll be recommending against visits from tourists and friends in the future.
