Tootie Pie

Even though these are frozen, you will not find a better pie. Period. And if Austin has a pie as good, I’ve yet to find it. That is the good part and the reason I gave the place 5 stars.
Their prices are over the top, as others have noted, no getting around it. I guess you just have to pay (through the nose) for top quality, so I only purchase them on special occasions and occasionally not even then because of their hours of operation.
While they’re located about half way between work (downtown) and home (north Austin), they’re only open from 9 AM to 5 PM. I’ve been at work for at least an hour by 9 AM and I leave work after 5 PM, Monday through Friday, so purchasing their pies requires a bit of planning. I have to buy it the weekend before and keep it in my freezer until the night before. Obviously, if I find on a Monday that I’d like one on Thursday, it’s a bit too late.
I’ve never had a serious problem with any of the staff as some people here report.

Never again. This was my second time trying to support a smaller coffee shop. The lady behind the counter (I’m pretty sure she’s the owner) never can muster a smile and has that «you’re inconveniencing me» attitude about her.
She informed us upon ordering that we must take our coffee and pastry to-​go because she’s closing in 10 minutes. How rude. Really? It was raining out and we tonight we could sit for a minute. She could have simply let us sit, lock the door and go about her cleaning and shitting down.
By the way, the coffee isn’t anything to write home about and you should know the pies are previously frozen, not freshly made.

This place is awesome!!! I found tootie pie on groupon when they were having a awesome deal and I fell in love. The lunch specials are great and they have a wide selections of pies to choose from. I am usually picky when it comes to trying something different because it always turns out bad but when I tried the key lime pie from tootie pie it was amazingly good. My favorite is their apple pie. Absolutely yummy which is the reason why I can’t even think about getting a whole pie because it will disappear (in a good way hehe :)) Writing this review is making me want to go there now…

The pies are awesome. I especially love the pecan pie at the pumpkin pie. Fruit pies are second to none.
Unfortunately, my wife had to walk out because the self mutilation of the gentleman behind the counter turned her stomach. If you serve food, the wait staff needs to be be clean and unmutilated.

Never been there before since we live down south, but while in the area we figured why not right?
Well first off we walk in and are greeted kinda lamely and while looking at the prices saw it was like $ 5 a slice! That’s crazy to charge that much per slice. So we decide to split a small slice of chocolate pie. So we go up and my guy says we’ll take the brownie pie and the woman rudely scoffs at us saying there’s no such thing… You meant a heavenly chocolate. Well duh. There’s only one freaking chocolate thing you’ve got in the case and she knew damn well what we meant. So we get the pie and there was nothing special about it. I’ve had waaaaay better stuff where we live for like $ 2 a slice. Also charging 30 something bucks for a whole pie?! That’s outrageous! I’d rather make my own pie than go back there…
The only reason I’m giving this 2 stars is because the dude behind the counter was polite and was the only one there who seemed like he knew anything about customer service.

Pie was delicious! I had pumpkin and it was just as it should be. The crust was sweet and perfect.

I purchased a Groupon to use at the one in West Lake but it has since closed. So I went at lunch to the one on Mopac — North Austin — which is out of my way from home but doable from work. The place looks a little run down and one display case was completely empty. I’m worried this place might also close soon from the look of things.
I went to their website to prepare for my visit and decided to use my Groupon for a Club Sandwich and three different pieces of pie — Apple (featured in Southern Living Magazine), Buttermilk (recognized as a top 10 pie by Yahoo Travel), and Pumpkin (Voted best pumpkin pie in Rachel Ray magazine). I placed my order «To Go».
First the sandwich — 5 stars! Turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise and I chose Provolone cheese but you can get cheddar or Swiss. I ordered it on White but Marble Rye and Croissant were other options. The bread and all ingredients were extremely fresh and the sandwich was hearty enough that I may not need dinner. At $ 7.50 I thought it was a great deal.
Now the disappointing part — the pies. First of all, my rating is based on two different things — Taste and Value.
Taste:
The Apple Pie was incredible. Nice amount of cinnamon but not overpowering. The pie was very tall and plump and was one of the best I’ve had.
The Pumpkin pie was very light. It is more of a whipped pie than a traditional pumpkin pie. The flavor was wonderful but I prefer a traditional pie texture than the whipped variety. But I did enjoy it.
The buttermilk pie was a disappointment. Buttermilk Pie is one of my favorites and based on the top 10 ranking by Yahoo I was expecting much better. It was good but had an odd flavor to it and my homemade buttermilk pie is much better.
Value: This is where the three star rating plays a big factor. When I walked in I saw other dinners that were eating in the café whose pie looked fantastic. Large pieces of pie filled their dessert plate. But when I received my «To Go» order, the pieces I received were rather small. Too small actually. And at $ 5 (pumpkin and buttermilk) and $ 6 (Apple) a slice I expected a much bigger slice. Whole pies range from $ 33 to $ 37!!! If I were to rate this place on Value alone it would definitely be a 2 star rating at most.
I’m not sure if the size of the slices were based on my order being «To Go» or because I used a Groupon but I definitely felt cheated. There was plenty of empty space in my to go pie container so I’m not sure why so skimpy.
I would recommend going for the sandwich alone… it was that good. But I will probably eat there next time hoping for a bigger piece of pie!

I will skip an alcoholic happy hour for a pie happy hour any day of the week. My mom and I were in this shopping center already and I was dreading having to get back in the car to sit in rush hour traffic. I told myself the only way I could stand it is if I had a dessert in my tummy.
We walked over to Tootie Pie and I was informed that it was Pie Happy Hour — I can’t remember the discount on slices of pie, probably because I was just salivating and not paying much attention.
My mom got a coffee (I joked that she was on a coffee tour of Austin since she tried more coffee in different places in her one week here than I have in my 5 years) and I decided to try the Coconut Supreme Pie. THIS. PIE. WAS. IMMACULATE. It had the texture of cheesecake and was just incredible. I will definitely be back here to add some pounds to my scale.

I was really psyched when Tootie Pie’s decided to put this location right by my house! I had previously felt like there was a complete lack of good pie shops in Austin. The chains are abysmal and even the couple independent companies I found were not good at all. Tootie Pie’s filled that gap in Austin desserts!
The pie itself is delicious. I have tried all different kinds and love them all. I tend to usually lean towards fruit pies but when my family tried the buttermilk we were blown away! I didn’t even know I liked buttermilk pie until I had Tootie’s! Other favorites include the gigantic apple (of course), blueberry and peach. The apple is made with tons of super fresh crisp apples. Even if you buy a frozen one and heat it at home it has that great texture unlike if you bought one from the grocery store. Blueberry? Nothing beats a nice warm piece of blueberry pie a la mode on a hot summer day.
You can get individual slices or whole frozen pies to take home. Some of my family members that are less overly-​sweet cake inclined prefer to get these for their birthday festivities instead! They are super easy to warm up, you just have to remember to defrost them in the fridge the night before and give yourself an hour and a half grace to reheat in the oven before you serve. Still super convenient and always adored by all that have a slice!
Also, I must say that their sandwiches are great quality. I almost always order the chicken salad with the grape halves in it on marble rye bread. Everything is so fresh and yummy, which really hits the spot on a hot day! Unfortunately my favorite «winter» sandwich has been taken off the menu. They don’t do the paninis anymore. There was a yummy italian chicken one that had gooey cheese just dripping off the sides but I guess this winter there will be no panini for me. :(
I do admit that the prices are high. Fortunately, they do frequently put up GroupOns so we are able to visit more often. If it wasn’t for those deals I would have a hard time affording a trip to Tootie’s for a sandwich, soup and pie lunch. :(I kind of also wish they were open for dinner and dessert. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve eaten dinner and we’ve thought about going for dessert and ran through all the usual options and said «I wish I could get some pie…»

This place is yummy times 10! Any place that advertises a «Pie Happy Hour» is a place I want to be! I tried the apple, heavenly chocolate, and lemon velvet! The Lemon Velvet is a lot like cheesecake! Fantastic! The Heavenly Chocolate tastes like a brownie. The Apple Pie comes warm and just melts in your mouth… yummmmmmmm!

This was a nice little restaurant; good for a quick lunch, soup and sandwich and OF COURSE pie. I had a Groupon, but had I not, it would have been a bit pricey for me. I had the chicken salad with grapes and romaine with a cup of the roasted red pepper and gouda soup. The pie was certainly good (my boyfriend and I shared buttercream), but not enough to make this a destination spot.
The service was top notch!

Just came from here. I had apple pie (the size of my mom’s apple pie!). It was pretty good and served warm. I also had the loaded baked tater soup and ½ a sweet chicken salad sandwich on wheat. The soup was super yummy, but I love soups of all types. The sandwich was tasty as well – it had purple grapes and nuts in it and was pretty flavorful. Overall, I thought the food was good. I thought that the prices were a bit inflated though. One pie is over $ 30.

Let’s just get this straight. Pricey pie and they’re frozen. Really now, they couldn’t have left it in a controlled temp fridge to slightly thaw the pies out? I’ve been here time and time again, usually the top layer or the middle of the pie is frozen.
Make sure you tell them, if it’s frozen you don’t want it unless it’s been properly defrosted. Gawd frustrating. The apple pie is decent and usually not frozen. So I’m not complaining. For the other cream base pies, make sure it’s not frozen unless you’re going to be eating it later on.
It’s a great dessert place after eating at Pot Belly or Mighty Fine.

With some surprising negative reviews, I’m setting the record straight about Tootie Pie Company. I’ve been a fan for years; not a fan of the price and the potential leftovers. We’re a family of three with Little Rooster included and for us to eat an entire pie, cake, or cobbler would take months as we watch our sweets intake.
Then one day on Unilocal,I saw that Tootie was opening a couple of locations in Austin! So instead of going down to Boerne or picking one out of the freezer at select locations, I can go get a slice of the buttermilk pie that I love. Instead of spending big bucks on something we will never finish; $ 6 for a near perfect slice is worth it for me.
Our visit to the store didn’t disappoint. We hit a few stores at Arbor Walk and headed in for an afternoon snack. The staffers were friendly and service was great. A soy latte for the wife, scoop of vanilla for the boy, and a glorious slice of buttermilk for me. The pie was delicious as always and the latte won my wife’s critical approval.
They also offer sandwiches as others have noted. Perhaps I’ll try the full experience on my next visit. The other location is somewhere off 360, but I will always remember the bliss when I sat down here and knew I wasn’t gonna beg the neighbors to take a half eaten $ 30 pie

Taking a ride through Austin looking for coffee for my partner and a hot tea for myself, we found our way to Tootie’s. And I have some very mixed feelings about this place, but when I think about the folks running this operation, I quickly decide that I don’t care for this place at all. It’s clear that the business tries, unsuccessfully, to provide a homey-​type atmosphere and use this as their selling point.
We ordered two bagels with cream cheese, cucumbers, and a dash of dill. I’m not sue why they wouldn’t just make a dill cream cheese because dried dill on my cucumbers is tacky. The bagels weren’t very fresh and the cucumbers sliced so thin I could see through them.
We waited well over 20mins for our bagels. While we waited we were greeted by some suit and tie asking what we ordered, fake smiled at us, and continued on to every customer there who was waiting for their damn food. This obviously is no mom and pop shop if this guy is running the show.
There were only two people behind the counter: one on register, one making everything, and the line was so long and they were so backed up (please view the pictures I posted to see how awful this line was) and this guy was just walking around asking customers what they ordered, how they liked their food. He had no interest in helping those poor kids get the food out. They were flustered and I felt really bad for them. There were times when the line wouldn’t move because both of them were trying to get food out. Once our bagels came out, the girl apologized profusely for the wait. We didn’t mind the wait, we minded that they were so grossly understaffed that they had to work through such conditions.
Tootie has a pretty extensive menu, so there are a lot of components in making their dishes. All of which do not look appetizing and are very expensive. Two bagels, hot tea, and coffee cost us almost $ 20.

I’m not sure why there are the ratings are so high for this place. The quality of the dessert just doesn’t warrant 4 and 5 stars, not to mention paying almost $ 5 for a normal slice of pie is a complete rip off. I did see on their chalkboard that they have a happy hour deal where you get a drink and a slice of pie for $ 6 — that might be more worth it, but after having a taste of my pie, I’m not sure if I even want to come back for that special.
I ordered a slice of the keylime margarita, and it just wasn’t that good. Not even the graham cracker crust saved it. It didn’t taste freshly baked at all, and it actually had a processed taste to it. It was also super sweet, which I’ve never experienced with a regular keylime pie. Maybe the margarita infusion made it really sweet. I actually couldn’t even taste the tartness of the key lime. My friend ordered a cinnamon roll, which was pretty big. I took a bite of it, and it tasted just like a normal cinnamon roll you buy at the store — nothing spectacular about it.
The only upside is that I had a voucher to the place, so I didn’t pay full price for dessert.

Tootie Pie Co. — came here on a Groupon and got a killer deal. Their deal on the chalk board outside is for a sandwich, salad and slice of pie for $ 10. If you’re looking for fast food cheap, this isn’t the place for you.
And there’s a place for that, but not here. The staff is friendly, the food is made to order and, even though you order at the register, the food is brought to your table.
I had the Italian Grilled Zesty Chicken Breast Panini with pesto mayo, and it was very good. That’s not hyperbole; it was very good. Grilled to perfection on ciabatta. They wisely offered to pack my pie to go when I ordered. I was stuffed and happy when I finished the salad and sandwich.

My first trip to Tootie Pie was a grand success. My chicken salad sandwich was good along with the Lemon Velvet slice of pie. I got the combo they have for $ 10.00 — only down fall about that is that the drink is kinda small for the price and if you want a refill — you have to buy another «can» — no free refills — you would hope for that price, you would another one free.
Staff was very friendly, outgoing and helpful — service was fairly quick especially for lunch time during the week.
I will return but just for pie.

I was on the Mopac over-​pass with my fiancée, turning around to hit Braker when I saw «Tootie Pies» peeking over the edge of the highway. «Honey! HONEY!!» I wagged my finger madly. «Look! PIES!!»
And thus, our first trip to Tootie Pies began. It was closed, sadly, so we drug our feet elsewhere and I vowed to come here another day.
Fast-​forward to that Sunday — I was on my own, doing some mindless shopping and trying to find something to nibble, and lo! It was open! I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to swing by…
They had (and still have) a special set for $ 10, which includes a sandwich, drink and slice of pie. This is a great deal, so definitely go this route. I went with the sweet chicken salad sandwich, which was tender chicken mixed with some light mayonnaise, grapes, salt and pepper. It was SUBLIME, a little sweet and savory, just how I like my chicken salads! The bread was toasted and loaded with lettuce and a slice of tomato… mmm I’m craving it just thinking about it!
The iced tea had a full body and a hint of something aromatic… not sure what. But the pie.
Oh my GOD. The PIE.
I decided to play it safe and go with pumpkin. It was fragrant, sweet, a little spicy… it was the perfect marriage of dimension and simplicity. I texted the man to brag about my delightful jaunt, to which he responded «BRING SOME HOME.»
We have to date tried the pumpkin, apple (which is freaking LOADED!), and buttermilk custard. Our favorite is definitely the buttermilk. It’s rich, luxurious, and not overly sweet. Just perfect.
With ice cream, cupcakes, and now THIS nearby… I think I’m going to have to up my work-​outs a wee bit.

After a day of shopping (yes, my life is so hard), I needed an afternoon pick me up. Who can resist a place called Tootie Pie? This place has a variety of pies (6 – 8) that you can buy by the slice. Came in during their happy hour ($ 6ish for a drink and slice of pie). In addition, they have a small selection of sandwiches.
The service was of Starbucks quality. I got the lemon curd pie and iced coffee. The pie filing tasted good; the crust was OK. Quite frankly, I am not sure if it is special enough to warrant $ 5-​$ 6 for a not so large slice of pie. The iced coffee was weak.
It’s a fine place to stop by for a quick slice of pie without the hassle of going to a sit down restaurant.
