History

Established in 2006.

We (Mike and Kacie Lucey) opened Toastie’s in Port O’ Connor, Texas July 5, 2006 (Mike’s birthday!) and operated there for a little over 5 years. We loved PO’C, but decided to make the big move to Austin. We closed up shop in Port O’ Connor and opened our new Toastie’s on South Lamar June 2011. After lots of requests and hard work, we’re glad to be part of campus opening our second location at 2408 San Gabriel February 11, 2014.

Manager

John has been in food service management since 2001 and has worked with Toasties since we opened our doors for business!

We thrive as a local Austin business because of our amazing customers! If you ever want to chat about anything we do John would love to listen and answer any question or address any concerns you might have.

John also does an amazing job taking care of the lifeblood of Toasties i.e. our wonderful employee family! John is the go to guy for all of their needs and concerns as well as constant training and development.

If you experience any concerns with anyone on our team please do us a favor and talk to him about what is going on. We pride ourselves on creating a relaxed environment for you to enjoy your amazing eats. If something isn’t up to the standards we have set PLEASE grab him and let us know.

I can’t speak for anything but the stallion sandwich. It’s maybe the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten! Delicious pita bread, melted cheese, pepperoni, turkey, lettuce, spicy ranch, Parmesan. Seriously delicious! A little pricey but totally worth it!

Went for the Cuban for my first time here, and it is delicious and so flavorful! Bread is soft and toasty and filled with juicy meat.
The store itself is quite nice and comfortable. It’s warm and welcoming from the workers. It’s just empty– maybe because it’s a school day? But it’s 12 and peak hour for lunch. But I highly recommend you trying Toasties. It’s a great sandwich shop. The local? Version of Quiznos if Thundercloud was like a Subway.

Toastie’s is definitely one of my favorite sandwich places in Austin! I’ve been a fan of the South Lamar location for years, so I was SO excited when they announced they were opening near campus.
I brought my co-​workers here and they liked it, too! We’ve now added it to our lunch rotation. We’ve all liked all of the sandwiches we’ve tried.
My favorite sandwich is the Cuban. It’s really, really hard for me to branch out to order anything else because it’s so good.
If you’re not in hungry enough for a big sandwich, their kid-​size sandwiches are a great value.
The only thing I miss at this location is the awesome lemonade and limeade that they have at the South Lamar location.

I was looking for someplace to grab dinner and did not want to hit the convenience store next door. I was not sure what to order, so I opted for a South Sider. I was quite impressed. It was very flavorful. The guy working behind the counter mentioned their menu was not too «overwhelming». They have Eco products for their cups. Great idea, but would like a larger size for my drink.
The service was quick. They handed me my sandwich within 5 minutes of ordering it. I will definitely be going back. It was nice to have a change of pace from the other places around the area. I would suggest they get other baked goods to go with the brownies they already offer. They were looking a little sad. Thought it was a bit much for a small brownie.

When I went into to order, I asked for a Reuben where I substituted for a different type of bread. I was told that they would not let me substitute the bread because they think it’s better with the bread they chose.
I was so blown away with their rude attitude that I decided to go somewhere else.

Toastie’s got me hooked. Recommended by a co-​worker, I added this place to my sandwich to-​try list.
For first timers, most say to go with the Bambino, a Chicken pesto pita. That’s what I got my first time and I wasn’t blown away. The reason being… it wasn’t a sandwich! Nonetheless it was still good.
I also saw the Cuban sandwich on the menu, and for the next few weeks that’s all I could think about trying. After weeks of wondering what I was missing out on, I went and ordered it… best decision of my life! The sandwich was what any pulled pork lover dreamed about (moist pork juices dripping down your hands). There’s also a delicious mustard sauce in the sandwich, and I don’t even like mustard!
The staff are super friendly and knowledgable; if pulled pork isn’t your thing, ask the staff for another recommendation as their menu selection is huge.
Currently if you check in on Unilocal you can get a free drink!

I made a critical review previously because of a simple avoidable frustration I had the times I visited Toasties. I also appreciate the owner following up with my initial complaint. The sandwiches are good. I have tried the cuban, bahn mi, and bambino. The bambino is delicious! I’d recommend this place for anyone in and around west campus.

Meh, I got the pork islander and it was good, but not remarkable. I probably will not be coming here again, especially because food and chips made the sub cost over $ 11 (WTF?!)
Decent, and good if you get tired of Subway.

Toasties! Yum. Just hearing the name brings to memory crispy, warm, chewy bread featuring delicious fillings.
First, the restaurant is located in a strip next to Freedman’s. Easy to find. Clean interior, with vibrant green colors and paper towel dispensers on each table. Very spacious — a good spot to grab lunch with friends.
Service is good. Both times, the cashier was courteous and prompt.
On to the good stuff:
Bambino — One of their most popular subs. Chicken pesto goodness on pita bread.
California Club — Bacon avocado goodness
Cuban — Succulent pulled pork and grilled ham combined with pickles and mustard result in a hearty filling sandwich.
Islander — Pulled pork, pineapple, and peppers slathered with super good sweet/​spicy sauce!
Price range is around $ 7 – 9 per sandwich.

I came here twice on my recent trip to Austin. Nice spot with a few tables inside, a few on the outside, and I think they might have a bar area to the side that they may be opening soon (or maybe it’s only open at nighttime).
I got the Cuban sandwich both times. The pulled pork was moist and tender and the ham complemented it nicely. Bread was soft. Staff was friendly. They have a TV inside and another one outside — both showing World Cup games.
Great place to relax in the summer when it’s less crowded.

Toasties Subs does it right. The sub selection is more creative than any of the rivals in west campus and price is good. Still feels pretty new, ambiance could be improved but once this place settles in it’ll be a popular spot.

First time I’m here and the space they have is really nice. They play good music and they have really great subs. I had the Roma chicken sub and it was delicious. Definitely coming over again and it’s really close to my place on west campus!

In west campus, one of the best places to get food. The sandwiches are top notch quality, and leagues and bounds above the which wich or potbelly on Guadalupe. (Potbelly only has one good sandwich really). Fricano’s is pretty good too but it’s a different style of sandwich, not a sub.
This place also get’s bonus points because it has really good pulled pork taco’s. I don’t really like bleu cheese but the Bambino was pretty good considering that fact. I recommend the meatball sub and the dipper (with roast beef and au jus)

Owners Mike and Kacie invited me to lunch at their new location on condition that I try something new. So, I obliged by going there and trying out one of their biggest sellers, the «Bambino,» Mike’s self-​professed brain-​child. The first thing I noticed was its soft and warm pita bread outer shell that you fold in half so you can eat the whole thing like a giant taco without anything falling out. Then, while eating it, I started wondering whether this concoction got its name from the bed of «baby» spinach leaves that form its foundation. There’s quite a bit of spinach in there, so if you’re not into that stuff, the Bambino will not be for you. But there are many more ingredients in there besides spinach: chunks of pesto-​basil grilled chicken, pepperoni, bacon, mozzarella, and a green chile cilanto ranch sauce. Oh yeah, it also has a fair amount of gorgonzola cheese sprinkled in, so if you’re not into that kind of cheese, steer clear of this one. I can tell you this — this is no baby sandwich. It’s huge. Nor is it for babies — definitely for grown-​ups. In the end, I figured that it must have been named after Babe Ruth himself because this bad boy is definitely a home run!

One of my favorite sandwich places in Austin! I first tried Toastie’s at their Lamar location and it was an instant hit. They make their own bread, which is some of the best I’ve had in Austin and their sandwiches are very well put together. I have had the South Sider and the Cuban. The South Sider is made with parmesan crusted bread and has grilled ham, salami, pepperoni, and the typical Italian sandwich toppings. The Cuban has pulled pork and ham and very crunch pickles. I have also had the tacos, which are great as well. My favorite are the green chile pork tacos that are dressed with green chiles, cilantro, and cotija cheese. It is a highly recommended place and the service is top notch as well!

Just stopped in today and had lunch, I had the muffaletta it was great! My wife had the ruben and son had the meat ball sub and they both enjoyed them very much. We also tried a smoothie and it was wonderful! Staff was excellent ! We will be back (I heard a bar is coming soon!) :)
